Obsessive scientist Dr. Pretorius (Ted Sorel) successfully discovers a way to access a parallel universe of pleasure by tapping into the brain's pineal gland. When he is seemingly killed by forces from this other dimension, his assistant, Dr. Crawford Tillinghast (Jeffrey Combs), is accused of the murder. After psychiatrist Katherine McMichaels (Barbara Crampton) and detective Bubba Brownlee (Ken Foree) take the case, the trio risks a return to the other world in order to solve the mystery.

00:03:42I don't know.
00:03:48Turn it off. Edward, shut it off.
00:03:53Never.
00:03:55Can't you feel it?
00:03:57Throw it in the mind.
00:04:01The mind!
00:04:03It's out of control. You've got to turn it off.
00:04:05No! No.
00:04:07No, I want to see more.
00:04:10More than any man has ever seen.
00:04:13Edward, it's running itself!
00:04:18Something's... coming.
00:04:31They're at it again.
00:04:33With the colored lights and the weird sounds.
00:04:36Last time I called, you said you'd send the squad car if there was another disturbance.
00:04:41Well, I'm disturbed!

00:09:32This is Dr. Catherine McMichaels.
00:09:34Well, I've read some of your work.
00:09:36Very impressive.
00:09:38Oh, well, yes.
00:09:39So is this facility.
00:09:41Though if you've read my work, you know I'm not in favor of locking away schizophrenics.
00:09:45Yes, yes, I know.
00:09:47You're in favor of using them in experiments like lab animals.
00:09:52We've asked Dr. McMichaels for her expert opinion on the sanity of Crawford Tillinghast as it pertains to his ability to stand trial for the murder of Edward Pretorius.
00:10:08Just a minute.
00:10:11Ready?
00:10:12Oh, yeah.
00:10:24And, uh...
00:10:26I'm sorry, Lord.
00:10:40I'm sorry, Lord.
00:10:42I'm sorry, Lord.
00:10:46Forgive me, God in heaven.
00:10:49Oh, God, forgive me.
00:10:56Oh.
00:10:59Get them out of here!
00:11:01Get them out of here!
00:11:03Get them out of here!
00:11:05Get them out of here!
00:11:07Father, everywhere!
00:11:08Help me!
00:11:09Get them out of here!
00:11:16He's in here, Doctor.
00:11:30Crawford.
00:11:31This is Dr. Catherine McMichaels.
00:11:37Hello.
00:11:38I suppose you're a mother's psychiatrist?
00:11:42Yes, I am.
00:11:43Uh-huh.
00:11:44And you're a physicist.
00:11:47Your record at Miskatonic University was brilliant.
00:11:52Oh, yes.
00:11:54I had quite a future, didn't I?
00:11:56Yes.
00:11:57You were working with Edward Pretorius.
00:12:00I was assisting Dr. Pretorius with his experiments, yes.
00:12:07Uh-huh.
00:12:09What was the purpose of the experiments?
00:12:14To stimulate the pineal gland with resonant vibrations.
00:12:17The pineal gland? Why?
00:12:19Dr. Pretorius believed the pineal was a dormant sensory organ.
00:12:23A sixth sense.
00:12:24Yes.
00:12:25Well, that's not a new theory.
00:12:26The philosopher Descartes believed it was the third eye.
00:12:28It's not a theory, it's a fact.
00:12:30Then your experiments worked.
00:12:32They proved the theory.
00:12:34Yes.
00:12:36Then what went wrong?
00:12:41Nothing.
00:12:42At first.
00:12:43But then we saw them.
00:12:44What did you see?
00:12:46We saw creatures.
00:12:47We saw creatures.
00:12:48We saw creatures.
00:12:49These things that are swimming around in the air.
00:12:53They fill it all the time.
00:12:55Are they around us now?
00:12:56You bet.
00:12:57Only we can't see them without the resonator.
00:12:58And they can't see us unless they're under the influence of the vibrations.
00:13:02That's why I had to destroy it.
00:13:03Destroy what?
00:13:04The resonator.
00:13:05Pretorius' invention.
00:13:06Because.
00:13:07Because.
00:13:08Because.
00:13:09Because.
00:13:10It.
00:13:11It.
00:13:12came.
00:13:13What came?
00:13:14What came?

00:13:16The.
00:13:17The.
00:13:18The.
00:13:19The.
00:13:20You bet.
00:13:21Only we can't see them without the resonator.
00:13:22And they can't see us unless they're under the influence of the vibrations.
00:13:24That's why I had to destroy it.
00:13:26Destroy what?
00:13:27The resonator.
00:13:29Pretorius' invention.
00:13:30because
00:13:33because
00:13:35it
00:13:38came
00:13:40what came
00:13:42Dr. Tillinghast
00:13:46Crawford what did you see
00:13:51it ate him
00:13:54bit
00:13:56off his head
00:13:58like a gingerbread man
00:14:05Crawford
00:14:09Dr. McMichael
00:14:11I'm not mad
00:14:12I saw it
00:14:14I saw it
00:14:16do you hear me
00:14:21I saw it
00:14:22can't reach him
00:14:25he keeps returning to the same
00:14:27fantasy
00:14:27let's do a cat scan on him
00:14:29why
00:14:30you've already seen everything you need to see
00:14:33there's always more to see
00:14:35no machines
00:14:41please
00:14:42no it's alright
00:14:43you'll be alright
00:14:45I promise
00:14:49oh god
00:15:05no
00:15:06no
00:15:07no
00:15:08no
00:15:09no
00:15:11no
00:15:12no
00:15:15no
00:15:15oh my god
00:15:25there do you see that
00:15:27mm-hmm
00:15:27the pineal gland is oversized and extending through the optic thalami
00:15:31I think the tumor is causing his delusions
00:15:33I don't think that's a tumor
00:15:36I think the pineal gland is growing
00:15:40that's impossible
00:15:42I know but the cat scan bears it out
00:15:44the pineal stalk is elongating through the brain
00:15:46wait a minute
00:15:47I don't know from the inside of brains
00:15:49what does all this mean
00:15:51well it
00:15:52it could mean that the experiment they were performing actually does stimulate the pineal
00:15:56you mean he's not crazy
00:15:58I don't know
00:16:00he actually believes that he saw these creatures
00:16:04that still doesn't explain how Pretorius died or what happened to his head
00:16:08I'd like to recreate their experiment
00:16:14and I'll need Tillinghuis to do it
00:16:15that is absurd
00:16:17and unethical
00:16:18I know your methods
00:16:21the girl wonder
00:16:22you use your patients so you can make your great discoveries
00:16:26at least here we try to cure them
00:16:29by locking them up
00:16:30giving them drugs
00:16:31taking their lives away
00:16:33I can give him his life back
00:16:36I'll give you an expert opinion
00:16:39Crawford Tillinghuis is a classic paranoid schizophrenic
00:16:43and a dangerous one
00:16:45if I can recreate the experiment
00:16:48then I can find out what happened to Pretorius
00:16:51I'd like nothing better than to lock this guy up
00:16:56I've got a dead man with his head twisted off
00:16:59covered in some shit the pathologist can't even identify
00:17:01no other fingerprints found
00:17:03except Tillinghuis
00:17:04no blood on the axe
00:17:06no blood anywhere
00:17:08I want to know what the hell happened up there
00:17:12he's all yours
00:17:19you're my patient now Dr. Tillinghuis
00:17:32thank you
00:17:38I'll call for an appointment
00:17:40no no no wait a minute
00:17:42you've been released into my custody
00:17:45you'll have to come with me
00:17:46where do you plan on taking me
00:17:48back to the Pretorius house
00:17:49I want you to recreate your experiment
00:17:52no
00:17:55look
00:17:56you can either stay here for the rest of your life
00:17:58or you can come with me
00:17:59that's not much of a choice is it
00:18:03I believe you Crawford
00:18:06I want to see what you saw
00:18:08hi you must be Dr. McMichaels
00:18:25no I'm Dr. McMichaels
00:18:26oh hi
00:18:28hello
00:18:28then you must be
00:18:30this is Dr. Crawford Tillinghuis
00:18:31so they're crazy
00:18:32I'm Sergeant Buford Brownlee
00:18:37but my teammates call me Bubba
00:18:39I used to play pro football
00:18:41we were all crazy
00:18:43laughing

00:19:12I'm glad you're
00:19:13Not exactly cheery.
00:19:43Sorry about that, chowper flock.
00:20:13That's dumb.
00:20:28Everybody out.
00:20:28Dr. Tillinghuis, would you care to show us around?
00:20:51Doctor, if you're telling us the truth, the only way to free yourself is to go back.
00:20:56Through this door.
00:21:23Come on, Doc. There's nothing to be afraid of.
00:21:27Look, I'll show you.
00:21:48See what I tell you?
00:21:50What, were you all right?
00:21:53Yeah, yeah.
00:21:54Okay.
00:21:55Electrical cables.
00:21:57We needed more power, so I rewired the whole house.
00:22:03Where are the circuit breakers, doctor?
00:22:08Doctor?
00:22:08Doctor?
00:22:12Tillinghuis.
00:22:13Damn, if we lost him.
00:22:20He knows this place better than we do.
00:22:24First thing is to find the power.
00:22:25Hey, wait a minute.
00:22:42What?
00:22:43I'll bet these cables lead to the resonator.
00:22:46First we find our missing mental patient.
00:22:48I'll bet you to be here for you.
00:23:02I want more yelling.
00:23:06This guy was into some weird shit.
00:23:27That's him.
00:23:30Dr. Edward Pretorius.
00:23:36I don't care about his private life.
00:24:06I don't care about his private life.
00:24:11But my parents came here.
00:24:12It ended up seminary
00:24:26The Pretorius Resonator.
00:24:44Is that how you hacked up the door?
00:24:46Spar, I hit it!
00:24:48I knocked a fork off.
00:24:51There.
00:24:53There it is.
00:24:54What do you want me to do with it?
00:24:55Let him go.
00:24:56Are you crazy, too?
00:24:57He's reliving it.
00:24:58The night of the murder.
00:24:59Let him go.
00:25:02EA says you call the signals.
00:25:08Yes.
00:25:13Yes.
00:25:16This is how it was.
00:25:17That's where it ate him.
00:25:28Wait a minute.
00:25:28What ate who?
00:25:32We can start in the morning, Crawford.
00:25:36I've started.
00:25:37All right.
00:25:40All this talking about eating is making me hungry.
00:25:48How about we have some dinner, huh?
00:25:54Real danger here is starving.
00:25:55Oh, I'm .
00:26:18Good morning.
00:26:19Yeah.
00:26:20Oh, come on.
00:26:22Oh, my God.
00:26:52pretty isn't she she's beautiful so how's it going doc need some help he used to bring
00:27:10beautiful women here they'd eat fine meals drink fine wine listen to music
00:27:17but it always ended with screaming
00:27:22and i would just lie there and listen to them
00:27:29screaming your boss had some screws loose he was a genius
00:27:38it's just that the five senses weren't enough for me he wanted more
00:27:45is it finished are we ready yes
00:27:55i uh had to bypass the computer because the magnetic field erased the program and of course
00:28:09the monitors completely useless so the entire system has to be manually operated and unfortunately
00:28:18the resonator was so severely damaged that i had to convert it to just an on off system
00:28:24when we reach twenty thousand megahertz we throw this switch
00:28:28and a powerful magnetic field vibrates these forks at a precise frequency
00:28:35stimulating the pineal gland allowing us to see with it
00:28:38listen to me don't move when we're in the field of the vibrations
00:28:44why you move and they may see you it
00:28:48will see you
00:28:50what is this it anyway pray you don't see for yourself
00:28:54now i'm staying right by this switch if it appears i'm shutting down
00:28:59are you sure we're ready for this yes please remember stay still
00:29:20this looks real great people
00:29:43you
00:30:13What the hell is that?
00:30:43What?
00:30:45I don't know what.
00:30:46Now, don't move!
00:30:57Holy shit!
00:31:00Is this what you saw?
00:31:02Yes. These things are around us all the time.
00:31:04It's coming.
00:31:13Bubba, are you all right?
00:31:15No.
00:31:16But I'll be fine.
00:31:17Then you move in the field, he can sense you.
00:31:20How far does the field extend?
00:31:22I'm turning it off.
00:31:24Crawford.
00:31:25Who is it?
00:31:29Show yourself.
00:31:39Welcome home, Crawford.
00:31:41I'm glad you came back.
00:31:45Who's the lovely woman?
00:31:49It can't be you.
00:31:52Dr. Pretorius?
00:31:54You have me at a disadvantage, my dear.
00:31:57Crawford, where are your manners?
00:31:59Bring your friend to me.
00:32:01I saw you die.
00:32:03No.
00:32:04Not die.
00:32:05Just pass beyond.
00:32:08It was horrible.
00:32:09Unnecessary rite of passage.
00:32:11Quite wonderful, in fact.
00:32:13Where have you been hiding?
00:32:15Move toward me, my dear.
00:32:17I want to see you.
00:32:19How did I survive?
00:32:24I am the master, you.
00:32:30Is it...
00:32:34Is it really you, Edward?
00:32:36Touch me, if it pleases you.
00:32:40If it helps you understand.
00:32:49It's just the body, but my mind.
00:33:19Is indivisible.
00:33:21Bodies change.
00:33:26Oh, come on.
00:33:27No.
00:33:36No.
00:33:38That will be quite enough of that.
00:33:48That will be quite enough of that.
00:34:18I feel exhilarated.
00:34:31We almost died.
00:34:33Incredible creature.
00:34:34It must have total bodily control on a molecular level.
00:34:37Yes, in Edward's mind.
00:34:40It's become the thing that ate him.
00:34:43Crawford, we saw the same things.
00:34:45We proved you're not insane.
00:34:46I'm not so sure.
00:34:49No.
00:34:50You faced your fear and you overcame it.
00:34:54You saved our lives.
00:34:57Yeah.
00:34:58I owe you.
00:35:03Want some breakfast?
00:35:06How can you eat after that?
00:35:09Can't work without eating.
00:35:11What were...
00:35:12Well, I've got to record the results.
00:35:15The pineal gland was stimulated.
00:35:17Oh, it gave me one hell of a headache.
00:35:20Expansion of the pineal.
00:35:23I'll have to do a study of the CAT scans of schizophrenics.
00:35:27If there's a statistical correlation between schizophrenia and an enlarged pineal,
00:35:31they may be seeing or feeling what we saw.
00:35:35Their minds may be influenced by those creatures.
00:35:37Well, how about the hard-on I got?
00:35:41Is there a statistical correlation for that, too?
00:35:45Well, um...
00:35:46We know that the pineal gland helps to regulate the sex drive.
00:35:51Perhaps pineal stimulation causes...
00:35:53and accompanying sexual stimulation.
00:35:58There's so much to learn.
00:36:00Well, we learned what we came for.
00:36:02He ain't crazy, and that...
00:36:04it ate Pretorius' head.
00:36:07They're gonna think we're crazy, but that's their problem.
00:36:11Well, we just have to try the experiment again.
00:36:15Did you say we?
00:36:18Catherine, you can't.
00:36:20You don't mean go back up there now, do you?
00:36:22You always run an experiment twice to check the results.
00:36:25Uh, wait.
00:36:26Now, I saw it get to him, Catherine.
00:36:29Just exactly what you're feeling, and it ruined him.
00:36:32Pretorius.
00:36:34Yes.
00:36:35I'd like to know more about him.
00:36:37That resonator is a work of genius.
00:36:42Were we in the same nightmare?
00:36:44I mean, didn't we just almost all get eaten by an it?
00:36:47All it takes is a hand on the switch.
00:36:49If it appears, you make it disappear.
00:36:51I got a better idea.
00:36:52How about if we disappear out the door?
00:36:54Don't you understand?
00:36:55This is the greatest discovery since Van Leeuwenhoek
00:36:57first looked through a microscope and saw an amoeba.
00:36:59Yeah, but he wasn't down there with the amoebas.
00:37:02I have to find out if the pineal gland is really the key.
00:37:04Okay, fine.
00:37:06Fine, but not here.
00:37:07Not now, under controlled conditions.
00:37:10But we have control.
00:37:11No one knows that resonator better than you do.
00:37:13You're right.
00:37:14And that's why no one is touching it.
00:37:16Crawford.
00:37:18This could be the first step in curing schizophrenia.
00:37:23Crawford.
00:37:25My father spent 15 years in an institution.
00:37:28He died in one.
00:37:29They called his condition incurable.
00:37:35They tried everything.
00:37:36Drugs, shock therapy, even surgery.
00:37:40But they turned him into a vegetable.
00:37:45I'm sorry.
00:37:48We can save so many others.
00:37:50Please, Crawford.
00:37:53We can do it.
00:37:55Help me.
00:37:56Help you.
00:37:59Help you to take your mind and shatter it.
00:38:08I can't.
00:38:09And I won't let you.
00:38:11I'm the law here.
00:38:12You turn on that machine and it's reckless endangerment.
00:38:14Look, we all need some rest.
00:38:16Why don't we just get some sleep and then we'll think about it.
00:38:18Yeah, we'll get some rest and then we're going.
00:38:20I won't let you go.
00:38:35I got absolutely on Melody.
00:38:38I've been willing for it.
00:38:39I've been willing for it.
00:38:40I've been willing for it.
00:38:41I've been willing for it.
00:38:42I've been willing for him.
00:38:44It's good.
00:38:45Oh, my gosh.
00:38:46I've been willing for it.
00:38:47I won't let me help you.
00:38:48I won't let you leave.
00:38:49Oh, my God.
00:39:19Oh, my God.
00:39:49Oh, my God.
00:40:19Oh, my God.
00:40:49Oh, my God.
00:41:19Oh, my God.
00:41:49Oh, my God.
00:41:50Edward, my God.
00:41:51What have you become?
00:41:55Myself.
00:41:57Give me the switch.
00:42:00I'll distract him.
00:42:04Yes, I do find you distracting.
00:42:07Don't!
00:42:08I'll be waiting for you, Crawford.
00:42:09Listen to me.
00:42:13Whatever you are, you're still Edward Pretorius.
00:42:17You're still human.
00:42:18I'm more than human.
00:42:21Join me forever.
00:42:23Everyone must join me.
00:42:33I'll be waiting for you, Crawford.
00:42:37Where the hell are you going, Junior?
00:42:44The circuit's breaker.
00:42:46I've got to turn it off.
00:42:47Damn.
00:42:48I'll get the smell.
00:42:49Oh, my God.
00:42:55Ah!
00:42:55Ah!
00:42:56Ah!
00:42:56Ah!
00:42:57Ah!
00:42:58Ah!
00:42:58Ah!
00:43:01Ah!
00:43:01Ah!
00:43:02Ah!
00:43:03Ah!
00:43:04Ah!
00:43:05Ah!
00:43:06Ah!
00:43:07Ah!
00:43:07Ah!
00:43:08Ah!
00:43:09Ah!
00:43:09Ah!
00:43:09In another life, I would have enjoyed you in another way.
00:43:16Messing with that damn machine again, Mac?
00:43:24Vibrations must reach down here.
00:43:30I'll be right back.
00:43:31What are you going to do to me?
00:43:40I'm going to kiss you.
00:44:01そのままными, I don't forget.
00:44:04I'm going to die.
00:44:07Let's keep going.
00:44:09I'm going to die.
00:44:10Let's stop it.
00:44:11You're welcome to the BD-4-1-4-0-2-0-1-0-1-5.
00:44:15You're welcome to the BD-4-1-5-2-4-0-2-0-1-7-7-8-7-8-9-0-1-0-1-1-0-1.
00:44:20I'm going to die.
00:44:26I'm going to die!
00:44:28I'm going to die!
00:44:31No!
00:45:01Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:45:31I'm sorry.
00:45:50I really thought that I could control it.
00:45:58It's changing us, Doc.
00:46:02All of us.
00:46:04And not for the better.
00:46:08I was wrong to turn on the resonator with other subjects present.
00:46:13It's clear now that only one person should run the experiment.
00:46:17This ain't an experiment.
00:46:19It's suicide.
00:46:20The presence of other subjects causes dangerous distractions.
00:46:24Now, I can stand right at the master switch and maintain control of that resonator,
00:46:27but I must do it myself.
00:46:29I know this behavior.
00:46:31I've seen it in the streets.
00:46:34You may be a scientist, lady, but right now you're acting like a junkie.
00:46:38Just take him and leave.
00:46:39Wrap him up.
00:46:43I'll get the van ready.
00:46:50Put some clothes on.
00:46:52Unless you want me to take you kicking and screaming like that.
00:46:54I'm necessarily afraid that we can't do it myself.
00:46:56It's too much.
00:46:57I'mzufried.
00:47:00But okay.
00:47:03I'm sorry.
00:47:10I'm sorry.
00:47:11I've had a couple of minutes coming in.
00:47:13No, I've had a이.
00:47:15I've had a quarterback last night.
00:47:18I've had a quarterback last night.
00:47:19Okay.

00:52:55Smoke will keep it now. No! Shh! Listen! The Resonator! It's him!
00:53:01He's trying to start the Resonator from beyond! Son of a bitch!

00:55:54Let her go!
00:55:55Oh, I will.
00:55:58Beyond her wildest dreams.
00:56:01She will go into my mind,
00:56:04and I will go into hers.
00:56:07It's the greatest sensual pleasure there is.
00:56:11You never knew pleasure or David.
00:56:13Only pain.
00:56:19You are evolving into a being that has never existed before.
00:56:27No!
00:56:28I'm Crawford Tillinghast.
00:56:31Let it happen, Crawford.
00:56:33No!

00:57:02Beautiful.
00:57:04Now you can truly see.
00:57:08What have you done to him?
00:57:09I only awakened his sleeping pine-heeled land.

00:58:38Dr. Finksy, please call the camera.
00:58:41Dr. Jerome Finksy, call the camera.
00:58:44Dr. Busser-Cain, call the second bunny.
00:58:49Dr. Junkies, right?
00:58:51Oh, my God.
00:58:53Dr. Yeah.
00:58:57Dr. K Youtuber-Cain, call the K-Cain.
00:59:00The police are here.
00:59:19She's been telling us a pretty wild story.
00:59:31I have been telling you the truth.
00:59:35We'd like your opinion of her mental state.
00:59:38I'd rather give you my opinion of her professional conduct.
00:59:43You're contemptible.
00:59:49Look at her.
00:59:50I doubt she even understands what she's done.
00:59:54You cost Crawford Tillinghast his mind.
00:59:57Quite possibly his life.
01:00:02And another man's life.
01:00:08That machine has got to be destroyed.
01:00:12I listened to you the first time, and now I've lost one of my best men.
01:00:16The DA's going to chew me a new asshole, thanks to you.
01:00:19She's in your custody now.
01:00:23No, no, no.
01:00:24Wait a minute.
01:00:24You can't lock me up.
01:00:26Not you.
01:00:28Please.
01:00:29I can't do much with her in this agitated state.
01:00:31She'll upset the other patients.
01:00:32Do whatever you think best.
01:00:35Listen, Dr. Block, please.
01:00:41You know that I'm sorry for everything that I've done.
01:00:45You have got to let me go back.
01:00:49Why don't you tell me what I have got to do, girl wonder?
01:00:53You always have all the answers, don't you?
01:00:57Well, you're my patient now, and I've got a few answers myself.
01:01:03Prepare her for electroshock therapy.
01:01:05But, Dr. Block, hospital policy says...
01:01:09Hospital policy dictates that the nursing staff is to follow orders.
01:01:13Now do as I say.
01:01:15Yes, doctor.
01:01:16Oh, oh, oh, oh.
01:01:23Stop her!
01:01:24My God, Block!
01:01:29No!
01:01:30Set her up in number five.
01:01:31I'm going to go check on Tillingham.
01:01:32Oh!
01:01:33If she continues to resist, sedate her.
01:01:35Oh!
01:01:54I'm dedicated.
01:02:06I'm dedicated.
01:02:24Oh, my God.
01:02:54Please, don't do this. It's not necessary. I'm all right now.
