“Day Dreams” is a 1922 American silent short comedy film directed by Buster Keaton and Edward F. Cline. The film follows a young man (played by Keaton) who leaves his hometown to prove himself to his sweetheart’s father. He writes letters home describing his successes, but in reality, his jobs—including janitor, street cleaner, and animal hospital assistant—end in disaster. His sweetheart imagines him as a surgeon and a Wall Street tycoon, but the truth is far less glamorous. The film is best known for its inventive physical comedy, including a scene where Keaton gets stuck inside a riverboat paddle wheel. Though some footage is lost, restored versions have been compiled from surviving prints.
