GRNSW chief executive officer Steve Griffin speaking on his disappointment at the end of the Dapto Dogs.
Transcript
00:00Yeah, look, we're here obviously at the Dapdo Dogs, iconic Dapdo Dogs, where basically we've been racing here since 1937, but sadly it's coming to an end of an era of the sport.
00:16In June next year, the Dapdo Agricultural and Horticultural Society have decided not to give us a new lease, which will mean an end to racing here. It's a very sad day for the sport and obviously a very sad day for the Lawra community, who supported grand racing for almost 90 years.
00:35It's disappointing. Look, we have been negotiating for some time and the society have told us that they want to move in a new direction and that clearly wasn't with us. So we're accepting that decision and we're moving forward with that.
00:49Obviously, Bongbong Road was purchased by Grand Race New South Wales a few years ago. It's not suitable for a two-turn track. It's undulating land and some of it's in a flood-prone area, but we are assessing it to see if we can put a straight track.
01:04We're moving to roll out more straight tracks across New South Wales. They're much safer ways of racing for our greyhounds. So we'll assess that land to see if we can put a straight track on that footprint.
01:13So we've still got racing at Bulloy and also got racing at Nowra. And so once this venue ends, then those tracks will pick up those race meetings.
