Transcript
00:00Folks, Lady Gaga has won her legal case to keep her dognapping reward.
00:04Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're looking at the most ludicrous and infamous celebrity
00:10lawsuits that we still can't believe were ever filed.
00:13Did Mila Kunis steal a chicken?
00:18Number 10, Simon Cowell and the Missing Orthopedics.
00:22This is insane, Carrie.
00:24Why is it insane?
00:25It's too weird.
00:26Weird, awkward, and Simon like you've never seen him.
00:30It's so uncomfortable.
00:32If the allegations in this lawsuit are to be believed, record executive and notoriously
00:38acerbic reality TV judge Simon Cowell can add shoe thief to his resume.
00:43Cowell and then-partner Terry Seymour were named in a 2009 lawsuit by a woman who applied to
00:49be their personal chef.
00:51Is it true?
00:52No, I have no idea where this rumor came from.
00:54I read it online that I'd offered her $100 million a year.
00:58It's completely nonsense.
00:59The budget of the show is $100 million.
01:03No one's going to pay $100 million a year for someone.
01:05She says they made her take off her $500 orthopedic shoes and never returned them.
01:11Unlike most celebrity cases, this one landed in small claims court with only $660 on the line.
01:18So who spent more money?
01:20Definitely you.
01:21That's not true.
01:23Oh, of course it is.
01:24You spend more of my money than I ever spent.
01:26Cowell insisted he was innocent and that the couple made attempts to return the pair.
01:31The suit was settled upon the return of the shoes.
01:33Number 9.
01:34Evermore Park sues Taylor Swift.
01:36When the pop star announced her second lockdown album, Evermore, a struggling amusement park
01:42in Utah saw an opening for a major lawsuit.
01:45Evermore Park sued the pop star for copyright infringement and damaging the park's reputation.
01:51Evermore Park claims that the release of Taylor's album Evermore caused actual confusion.
01:56They said it's affected the park's online presence negatively, infringed on its marketing
02:01and merchandise, and impacted its visitors.
02:03However, the announcement of the album actually led to the park showing up in more internet
02:08searches than ever.
02:09In a hilarious turn of events, Swift filed a countersuit.
02:13Reinhardt says there were differences in uses between Taylor Swift's use of Evermore and Brett
02:18Schneider's that may play a key factor when a judge reviews the lawsuit.
02:23The park had an attraction with on-theme musicians who sang and played acoustic versions of popular
02:29songs without the proper license.
02:31Some of the songs were originally written and recorded by none other than Taylor Swift herself.
02:36The park wasn't going to get the payday they might have expected, and both sides dropped the claims.
02:42As a resolution of both lawsuits, the parties will drop and dismiss their respective suits
02:45without monetary settlement.
02:47Evermore has since closed.
02:49We are grateful for the many amazing experiences that happened in our little park,
02:54and hope that it made a positive impact on the people who visited.
02:57Number 8.
02:58Surrogacy Suits.
02:59Mega celebrities are always the subject of weird and wild claims.
03:08Surrogacy rumors dogged Beyoncé and Jay-Z after the birth of their daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.
03:14There's a stupid rumor, the most ridiculous rumor I think I've ever had about me.
03:19It's crazy, especially after losing a child.
03:22The pain and trauma from that just makes it mean so much more to get an opportunity to bring life
03:28into the world.
03:29They were sparked again by a 2014 lawsuit, brought by a woman named Tina Seals.
03:34The lawsuit leveled allegations that the couple engaged Seals as a surrogate.
03:39The claims were immediately dismissed, with a judge deeming them, quote,
03:42irrational and, quote, frivolous.
03:45Seals has also sued Mariah Carey and Kim Kardashian and Kanye West,
03:49but offered to drop the latter suit if West offered her son a record deal.
03:54The rumor mill's been on overdrive ever since Queen Bee showed up at the New York Met Ball earlier this month,
04:00and a Givenchy number elaborate enough to hide a baby bump.
04:03Number 7.
04:04Lawsuit or casting call.
04:06Breaking into Hollywood as a writer is famously difficult.
04:10It requires talent, access, and eyes on your work.
04:13Joanne Vandegrift thought of an innovative way to get some industry bigwigs to see her work.
04:18She sued them.
04:19She just made a lot of that up.
04:20She was under oath.
04:21Then I guess that would be the first time somebody's lied under oath.
04:24Vandegrift allegedly tried to haul stars Halle Berry, Amanda Bynes, and Armie Hammer into court
04:30just so they could read and eventually star in her miniseries script.
04:34She's also suing Halle Berry, Amanda Bynes, and Armie Hammer because, well, she wants them to be in her show.
04:40What better way to get their attention than to sue them?
04:42Although the nature of the lawsuit is unknown,
04:44it seems that the high-profile court case Vandegrift probably wanted never took place.
04:49Needless to say, neither did her epic Civil War set miniseries.
04:53I will not be def-ed.
04:55Number 6.
04:57Batman sues Christopher Nolan.
04:59Now, you got the entire R&D department burning through cash claiming it's related to cell phones for the army.
05:06What are you building for him now?
05:08A rocket ship.
05:09I want $10 million a year for the rest of my life.
05:16While the circumstances surrounding this lawsuit are devastating, the case itself is absolutely bizarre.
05:23In 2008, Hussein Kalkan, mayor of a Turkish city called Batman, sued the Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan for using the city's name for the character.
05:32Several things stand out here, one of which is that Batman existed for decades before Nolan began making his trilogy.
05:39One of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the world is secretly a vigilante who spends his nights beating criminals to a pulp with his bare hands.
05:50And your plan is to blackmail this person?
05:53However, the Dark Knight was the most popular movie of 2008.
05:56Kalkan tied a series of murders and instances of citizens taking their own lives to the negative effects of the character's renewed popularity.
06:05The lawsuit seemingly came to an end after Kalkan's arrest in an unrelated case for promoting terrorism.
06:11All you care about is money.
06:14This town deserves a better class of criminal.
06:17And I'm going to give it to him.
06:19Number 5. The Trials of a Michael Jordan Lookalike
06:23Fame can be hard to adjust to.
06:26It's especially hard if you're not actually a famous person.
06:29I am here to personally guarantee that no one will ever bother you.
06:34For years, former Chicago Bulls all-star Michael Jordan was one of the most famous athletes ever.
06:41And Alan Heckard was tired of it.
06:43For years, he put up with being mistaken for the NBA superstar.
06:47You guys make a big mistake.
06:49You're all washed up, baldy.
06:52Baldy?
06:53According to Heckard, his resemblance to Jordan led to him being harassed in public spaces.
06:58He sued Jordan and Nike, the sportswear company that employed him as a celebrity spokesperson,
07:04for his trouble.
07:05Heckard abandoned his $400 million-plus claim.
07:09If notoriety was his issue, a high-profile lawsuit wouldn't help.
07:13Do you hear that?
07:14They don't think you can play the game anymore.
07:20There's only one way to find out.
07:22Number 4. Lady Gaga's dognapper sues her
07:25Anyone who's watched a court show knows about the term unclean hands.
07:29Well, Jennifer McBride found out the hard way.
07:32She returned pop star Lady Gaga's dogs after they were stolen,
07:36and dog walker Ryan Fisher was shot during the theft.
07:40He adds,
07:40I'm still in recovery from a very close call with death,
07:43and have kept myself from the growing media story.
07:45I will write and say more later,
07:47but the gratitude for all the love I feel from this planet is immense and intense.
07:51Gaga offered a reward of $500,000 for their return.
07:55McBride attempted to collect,
07:57but it soon came about that she was involved in the crime,
07:59and was charged as an accessory.
08:01The police are reporting that a woman dropped off both dogs
08:06to this police station at 6 p.m. this evening.
08:10In an act of absolute hubris,
08:13she sued Gaga for not paying her the reward.
08:15Fortunately, the law was on Gaga's side,
08:18not about to let McBride benefit from the crime.
08:21Jennifer McBride, who returned the dogs,
08:23previously sued the singer for no-questions-asked policy.
08:26Ms. McBride was charged with being an accessory
08:28to Ms. Fisher's attempted murder.
08:30Number three, Mila Kunis, chicken thief.
08:33Allegedly.
08:34Every once in a while,
08:35someone from a celebrity's past comes forward with a story about how mean they were.
08:39Christina Caro's lawsuit against that 70s show star Mila Kunis
08:44was almost too crazy to believe.
08:46Caro alleged that Kunis stole her pet chicken when they were children in Ukraine.
08:50Ukrainian singer named Christina Caro, seen here in one of her music videos,
08:57claimed that she and Mila were childhood best friends in the Ukraine,
09:01and that back then, Mila stole her pet chicken.
09:05She also alleged to have filed a $5,000 lawsuit over it.
09:09In a video that found its way to social media,
09:11Kunis was clearly upset by the accusation.
09:13File this one under Bazaar.
09:15Mila Kunis is setting the record straight.
09:17She didn't steal anybody's, wait for it, chicken.
09:20Still, she couldn't help but note that Caro was trying to launch a music career
09:24around the time the suit made headlines.
09:26As far as frivolous lawsuits go,
09:28this one is pure poultry.
09:30Uh, poetry.
09:31She's just doing it to get the publicity she wants.
09:33Well, she'll get more than that,
09:35because Mila's fighting back.
09:37I would like to launch a counter $5,000 lawsuit
09:40for making me sit there and watch your music video.
09:43Number two, DJ can't keep his hands to himself.
09:47Denver DJ David Mueller tried to drum up sympathy with a lawsuit
09:51alleging that global pop sensation Taylor Swift
09:53got him unjustly fired from his radio gig.
09:56Three million dollars in damages,
09:58claiming the singer's reps pressured the radio station to fire him.
10:02Swift's countersuit revealed the true story.
10:05Mueller had inappropriate physical contact with Swift during a photo op.
10:09He was indeed fired from his local radio station as a result.
10:12He then had the nerve to sue her for defamation,
10:14saying the allegation threatened his livelihood.
10:17Mueller reacted to the photo that was presented in court
10:20that Swift claims was taken at the time she was allegedly groped by him.
10:25The jury was unconvinced,
10:26and the judge even believed he destroyed key evidence.
10:30Mueller maintained his innocence even after he lost his suit and she won hers.
10:34Luckily for him, Swift only sued him for $1.
10:37Mueller has since continued working as a DJ in other cities.

11:03Number one, unfriendly skis.
11:08Seven years after Terry Sanderson and Oscar winner slash lifestyle brand mogul Gwyneth Paltrow
11:14collided while skiing, the incident was litigated before our eyes.
11:18Gwyneth is being sued by a 76-year-old man who's alleged Gwyneth crashed into him,
11:23causing serious injuries while skiing at a Utah resort back in 2016,
11:27and that she then abandoned the scene.
11:30Gwyneth has denied the allegations and countersued,
11:33claiming he actually hit her.
11:35Sanderson sued Paltrow,
11:37alleging her actions caused the accident and the subsequent long-term damage.
11:41Paltrow countersued,
11:43alleging that he was at fault for the whole incident.
11:45I think the fact that she's there,
11:47she's in trial,
11:48she's making a point,
11:49she's going to testify,
11:50her children will testify,
11:51her family is going to testify.
11:53I think it sends a message to the jury.
11:55The internet watched as the case provided unintentional comedy at every turn.
12:00Emerging victorious,
12:01Paltrow made her grand exit,
12:03whispering the words,
12:05I wish you well,
12:06like the kiss of death in Sanderson's ear.
12:08We can't be too mad about this one,
12:10if only because it was so entertaining to watch.
12:13So after an eight-day trial,
12:14the judge gave the jury a list of nine questions to answer,
12:17including what percentage of fault do you assign to the person responsible?
12:21And as you said,
12:22it was unanimous.
12:23The jury says Terry Sanderson was 100% at fault.
