00:00Do Europeans think a third world war is imminent?
00:07As geopolitical stability continues to be undermined,
00:10the prospect of another global conflict haunts many Europeans.
00:14This is what a new YouGov survey found after interviewing more than 7,000 people
00:19from Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
00:23Between 41% and 55% of respondents in each country
00:27think that another world war is likely to occur within the next 5 to 10 years.
00:33The vast majority expect that such a conflict would involve the use of nuclear weapons.
00:38They also expect that their nation would be involved,
00:40ranging from 66% in Italy to 89% in Great Britain.
00:46However, only France believes that its armed forces could effectively defend the country
00:50in the event of a World War III at 44%.
00:54The other four countries lack confidence in their armed forces' ability to defend their country,
00:59especially Germany, where only 16% have confidence and Italy, with 20%.
01:05Russia tops the list as the biggest obstacle to peace in Europe,
01:09with up to 82% of Western Europeans seeing it as a major or moderate threat on the continent.
01:16With Donald Trump making threats against Greenland, as well as his tons on Ukraine,
01:20more than half of the surveyed people in Spain, Germany and France
01:24see tensions between Europe and the US as a major or moderate threat to continental peace.
