00:00I wanted to just give a brief on what exactly are we here today.
00:05Honorable members of parliament are visiting Japan.
00:09As I said, they came yesterday.
00:11You, as diplomatic colleagues, are aware of a gruesome attack that happened on India,
00:20in Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in Pahalham on April 22nd.
00:25It is just over a month now.
00:28Today is May 23rd.
00:30So we have one month back, this happened.
00:3326 innocent tourists were attacked and killed in Jammu and Kashmir.
00:4225 Indians and one Nepali citizen.
00:46Why?
00:47As you all know, peace had returned to Jammu and Kashmir.
00:53Life was getting normal.
00:56Schools were open.
00:57Children were going to schools, to universities.
01:02Business was picking up and tourism was at its peak.
01:07Jammu and Kashmir is one of the most beautiful places in India and peace was returned to there.
01:16We had conducted elections a few years back and the government was there, elected by the people.
01:23So things were getting normal.
01:24So things were getting normal.
01:25That is when the enemy decided to strike.
01:29So cross-border terrorism, terrorists from our neighboring country, Pakistan came and attacked these innocent tourists and they died.
01:39The government of India, our prime minister gave, we immediately understood what happened and we gave time for Pakistan to take action against the terrorists who committed this crime.
01:53So on May 7th, India decided to attack, punish the terrorists who have committed this gruesome crime and we attacked nine terror headquarters in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and in Pakistan, punishing the terrorists.
02:17And we never had any intention to escalate it.
02:24It was escalated by Pakistan on April 22nd when they attacked our innocent civilians.
02:34That was the escalation.
02:36But when we decided to punish the terrorists, we struck these nine terror headquarters and punished the terrorists.
02:47But then it was precise, it was measured, it was not intended to escalate.
02:53We said that, but Pakistan decided to escalate it.
03:00They started attacking us, we retaliated.
03:04It reached a stage on May 10th, after their many bases were destroyed.
03:11Pakistan pleaded for peace.
03:14They requested the Director General of Military Operations of Pakistani Army, telephoned the Director General of Military Operations of India and requested, please stop.
03:27And then we suspended the operations and there is a ceasefire.
03:34But it was a clear message that India has zero tolerance for terrorism.
03:42We will, we will punish terrorists.
03:46We will go to any extent to punish the terrorists.
03:50The whole nation came together.
03:52The entire country.
03:53You know India is one of the most diverse countries in the world.
03:58If you, the food which you are having today, I can tell you the food varies from south of India to north of India, east and west.
04:06It's a mix of all this.
04:07This is, this is the diversity of India.
04:09India is a country where four religions were born.
04:14Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism.
04:20Four religions.
04:21India has every other religion in the world.
04:24India has Jewish population, which can be dated back to 2500 years.
04:30Christians.
04:31Christianity reached India immediately after the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
04:38Saint Thomas, one of the disciples of Jesus Christ came to India in 52 common era.
04:47Immediately after the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
04:50And since then continued to live there, flourished there.
04:53Today India has 40 million Christians.
04:56Much bigger than the population of many countries.
04:59And when you talk about Islam, India is the second largest Muslim population country in the world.
05:07Immediately after Indonesia.
05:10And Islam came to India during the time of Holy Prophet himself.
05:16I come from Kerala.
05:18One of the masjids in Kerala was established in the sixth, in the seventh century itself.
05:25I visited that, the Cherimal masjid.
05:28So this is the diversity of India.
05:30629, see.
05:33So, this is the diversity of India, this is the beauty of India.
05:37And people were living in harmony and peace.
05:40This is the peace which the enemy was trying to destroy.
05:44This is the harmony they were trying to destroy.
05:46But the nation stood as one.
05:48And we have the members of parliament here.
05:51From different political parties, different states.
05:55Coming together with a message.
05:58A message that we have zero tolerance towards terrorism.
06:03And honourable member of the parliament, Sri Sanjay Kumar Jha will explain to you.
06:09Brief you on what we have done and why, what they have done here and what is our position on this.
06:15But let me tell you this.
06:18Our Prime Minister on May 10th, May 12th addressed the nation.
06:24May 12th addressed the nation in a message.
06:27And said, we have punished the terrorists.
06:31And the message from now on is this.
06:33We have zero tolerance towards terrorism.
06:36Blood and water cannot flow together.
06:40Terror and trade cannot happen together.
06:43And that is the message we are here.
06:46When it comes to fight against terrorism, there is no neutral position.
06:51You are either in the fight against terrorism or you are supporting terrorism.
06:55There is no midway.
06:57That is the message.
06:59So I welcome honourable members of parliament.
07:04I know it has been very hectic for you.
07:06My apologies.
07:07It has been very hectic.
07:08I know.
07:09Last night they left at around 11 o'clock.
07:12And now today at 7 o'clock they were here.
07:14So I welcome them.
07:16And of course I welcome my diplomatic colleagues who have, you know, despite early morning,
07:22have decided to come to us and join us.
07:25So I welcome both sides.
07:27And I request now honourable Sanjay Kumar Jha to come and address you.
07:35I have kept a folder on the table for each one of you.
07:39It has my Prime Minister's address of May 12th.
07:43And also the old documents related to the press briefings our government has done in the last few days of the...
07:52And also a few pictures we have kept on the table.
07:55You know, these are some of the scenes of the gruesome event which happened.
08:01As I mentioned, these were innocent civilians.
08:04But they, you know, just married couples.
08:08This is one such picture you can see.
08:11A newly bred girl sitting next to the body of a slaughtered innocent victim.
08:22You know, these, we have kept a few more.
08:25These were their marriage photos which would send shockwaves when you see it.
08:29Imagine what is left for them.
08:31I also have kept a few other pictures.
08:34You know, there was an attack on the Indian Parliament.
08:37Again, cross-border terrorism.
08:39I have kept a photograph of that.
08:41So, another one we have again that Parliament attack.
08:45Our members of Parliament are here.
08:47Many of them were part of the Parliament.
08:50I am sure that His Excellency Mr. Salman Kurshid works.
08:54Yes, see that.
08:56I told you, you know, His Excellency has a great experience personally in leading it to Parliament.
09:03So, do you remember today?
09:04Now, this photograph, nobody can remember.
09:09The Mumbai attacks.
09:122008.
09:13You know, there was a victim from Japan too in this.
09:18So, Japan, no country is escaping the reach of terrorism.
09:26An interesting part, all this is linked one way or other to the Pakistan.
09:31In this particular case, we were able to arrest one of the Pakistani terrorists who actually committed this murder.
09:40And he was, he, he, he confessed that he was.
09:45All the details were available.
09:47And I don't know whether you, you, you remember this photograph.
09:51This is Pell Daniel.
09:54In fact, the, the terrorist who killed him was murdered in this attack which India took on that.
10:02And this is, this is that terrorist.
10:05But I want to show you this photograph.
10:09This shows the funeral of a terrorist.
10:14He was given a, he was given a state funeral by the Pakistani government.
10:22A terrorist killed in this May 7th terror, you know, retaliation by India when India was punishing the terrorists.
10:32The funeral has this photograph, you can, it explains.
10:35He is given a state funeral with the presence of political leaders, in the presence of terrorists, but the army establishment was there in big numbers.
10:45This explains everything.
10:48So I, I would, I would now give it to honorable member of parliament, Sri Sanchi Kumar Chha, to brief you about his visit.
10:58He had a, they had a good meeting yesterday, met the foreign minister, Sri Vaya, met the, in the parliament, had meetings with Mr. Suga, who is the, who was the former prime minister of Japan.
11:10So today again, a series of meetings are set.
11:13So I once again thank the members of parliament and the ambassadors and the diplomats who have joined us.
