00:18turkey has decided to extend the range of its land-based missiles up to 2 000 kilometers

00:23this was announced by tukish president erdogan during a speech in the parlamnet

00:28this is a big security development that will take turkey's missile-based striking range into

00:33intermediate range missile systems this mean that turkey will be able to strike much beyond

00:38its shores and mainland such missile range if materialized will enable to hit entire middle

00:43east half of asia much of europe and almost all northern africa what could be the ramifications

00:49of this decision is an important aspect of today's regional and international geopolitics

00:54let's analyze this in two perspectives that is turkish geopolitical realities and its foreign

01:00policy ambitions another being the technical aspect of this missile system in detail

01:04turkey is muslim majority country that sits at a very vital juncture of continental link between

01:10asia and europe between black sea and mediterranean sea at the crossroads of eurasia and middle east

01:16or west asia this mean turkey remains important to geopolitical ambitions of usa europe russia and

01:22middle eastern countries especially iran syria lebanon and israel turkey enjoys a unique status of

01:28being land bridge bedouin asia and europe and hence relates with the regional politics although it enjoys

01:34rich geography yet it remains subject to criticism of paradoxes for multiple reasons being a nato member

01:41it still enjoys ties with russia and has acquired s-400 missile system from russia in fact it is the

01:47second largest country in nato due to size of its military which is only second to usa

01:51turkey has sharp differences with another nato member greece over cyprus issue being russian friend

01:58it provides weapons to ukraine who fights russia it also provide weapons to azerbaijan who fought russian

02:04ally armenia turkey has close ties with israel it also remain vocal supporter of palestinians

02:10turkey had long dreamed of being member of european union yet it is pitching itself as the new leader of

02:15the muslim world turkey is a major military partner of usa but both furiously oppose each other on

02:21kurdish issue for some these anomalies are hypocrisies for other it's an art of diplomacy to achieve national

02:27interest turkish foreign policy remains a riddle for its friends and foes alike recently turkey has

02:34achieved major foreign policy successes including a change of regime in syria through its proxies hts

02:40has effective control over portion of libya through elements of islamic state it is now trying to

02:46develop a corridor through africa as an alternate route for trade that of red sea these backdrops

02:51turkey has announced its decision to increase range of its striking surface-to-surface missiles

02:56this announcement clearly shows that country is interested in projecting its security interest

03:01well beyond its immediate neighborhood till date turkey is not known as a missile power but rather more

03:06of drone power and having emerging aviation industry its drones including tb-2 drones its

03:12ambitious con-stealth fighter jet program its locally manufactured weapons pods reflect strong

03:18indigenous military base now this announcement of missile program is also a huge development

03:23the important question remains why turkey wants to achieve this ability apart from its sovereign

03:29decision to do so it also mean turkey wants to become a regional status quo power from being middle

03:34power or merely a regional power whether it wants to revive the glory of ottoman heights or not

03:40it certainly wishes to influence the region beyond its near abroad a new leader of the middle east power

03:45broker in west asia and eurasian region even arabs have started to respect turkish credentials now

03:52although the rivalry still persists between turkey saudi arabia and iran for regional dominance

03:58three countries can look for relative adjustment for regional peace in the changing regional and global order

04:02at present turkey has three major surface-based missile systems this include the induction of typhoon

04:09surface to surface short-range missiles in late 2022 it is turkey's first srbm or short-range

04:16ballistic missile with maximum proclaimed range of around 560 kilometer with payload capacity of 500

04:22kilogram at the moment this is the longest-range missile in turkish arsenal the missile has maximum

04:28speed of around mach 5 that clicks hypersonic category but still is considered a supersonic

04:33missile although news came few months back that roguestan is developing hypersonic missile based on

04:38same typhoon srbm it uses solid propellant and uses gps glonass and inertial navigation and guidance

04:45system other missile being bore a tactical ballistic missile system with range up to 80 to 100 kilometer

04:52apart from these two systems turkey has also built the atmaca cara surface to surface cruise missile with

04:59range up to 280 kilometers a medium-range missile system sank was shown to public in may 2023 to have

05:06range of up to 3000 kilometers although missile production has not started but announcement of

05:12president recep tayyip erdogan confirms his country is developing missiles with ranges of more than 2000

05:17kilometers this once achieved likely in near future will affect the security dynamics for all linked
