Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) discusses efforts to pass the reconciliation budget bill.
Transcript
00:00We had a very productive meeting with President Trump and a number of members of the Freedom Caucus.
00:07You know, we went through a lot of things, you know, obviously a lot of good things that are in the bill.
00:11And the president talked about why those things are so important to get the country back on track.
00:17And I think it's important to keep that focus.
00:19Obviously, you know, they brought up some of the items that they're still trying to get added.
00:24But we talked about the political dynamics and the realities of the members in our conference who aren't for those things.
00:30And that ultimately we have kept this bill on a very delicate balance in a way that both sides can ultimately agree on all the things that are in it.
00:39And to add anything new, you've got to get that same kind of agreement.
00:42So we're keeping, you know, keeping this process moving forward.
00:45And, you know, I've said this every step of the way.
00:46None of this is easy because we're in a narrow majority.
00:49But it's critically important for the country that we deliver to get their, you know, get wages higher for families.
00:56Get more certainty with the tax code.
00:59Bring more investment.
01:01Eliminate a lot of waste, fraud, and abuse in some of these government programs.
01:05Produce more energy in America.
01:06That's all in this bill.
01:08And it's important that we deliver.
01:09And we're going to take the next step this evening and move this bill over to Saturday.
