00:00South African business people and also investors are really concerned Congress will not renew the African Growth Opportunity Act.
00:09How detrimental could this be for the country?
00:14That would be highly detrimental. I mean, a go up is a really, you know, high stakes thing for us.
00:23There's been whispers from Congress and Senate for a while now saying that South Africa should be booted from a go up.
00:30Over things like our support for Palestine at the International Criminal Court.
00:34But the whole go up thing was kind of subsumed by the Liberation Day tariffs that Trump levied on the entire world.
00:43South Africa saw a really steep, 31% increase in tariffs, which effectively nullified a go.
00:48And of course, he brought that back down to 10%. And we are now in that 90 day period where various countries are negotiating for more favorable tariffs.
00:56So I think what will happen to a go will depend on how this larger discussion goes with Ramaphosa and whether a go itself will continue is very much up in the air
01:06and perhaps overshadowed by the larger tariff discussions that have happened since those Liberation Day tariffs that Trump announced in April.
01:12So I think that's a really cool.
