Police reveal new super-fast e-bikes putting the brakes on phone snatchers in London

00:00We're here outside Liverpool Street Station today where the police are

00:03marking people's phones. It's all part of a crackdown on mobile phone snatching

00:09that has been happening in the City of London. Today they have been showing off

00:12their latest weapon in the Fightback, new high-powered electric e-bikes, the same

00:19as the ones that the criminals use and the police are now using them to get one

00:24step ahead. This is a Seron Ultra B and they're utilized by trained officers to

00:31deal with the robbery snatches. For the last couple of years we have had numerous

00:37efforts to tackle phone snatches and we have had many high profile operations

00:43which have resulted in very high profile arrests. This year we've seen a 30%

00:48reduction on phone snatches here in the city, something that we are really proud

00:53of but we know we can't just rest on our laurels so we're working now more

00:58committed to address this issue. So Operation Swipe is our intensification

01:03initiative tackling phone snatches in a number of areas that we're looking to

01:09make a difference.
