00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name's Theo Hewson-Bett and tonight, on Wednesday, there's only one thing to talk about.
00:07Manchester United are set to battle with Tottenham Hotspur for the Europa League trophy today.
00:11Let's have a look at how they've prepared for that match.
00:14Now, both Manchester United and Tottenham have had pretty terrible domestic seasons.
00:18Ruben Amaran has managed to retain the faith of most Manchester United fans,
00:21despite the team sitting in 16th position in the Premier League on only 39 points.
00:25And it's been clear now for a long time that the Europa League has represented the only real chance for the club to get some success out of a difficult season.
00:34This knowledge has clearly impacted the focus on the league, with United's recent record of one draw and no wins in the last five games
00:39being a ridiculously poor reflection of the squad, management and season,
00:43particularly when you consider that United have taken the opposite approach to Tottenham in getting ready for this game tonight.
00:48While the under-pressure Ange Postacoglu has basically sacrificed league form in order to rest many of his expected starting XI for the final,
00:54Amarim has prioritised keeping his stars sharp.
00:57His most recent line-up, for instance, included likely starters such as Bruno Fernandes, Patrick Dorgou, Casemiro and Ahmad Diallo.
01:04But that didn't stop the Red Devils falling to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea.
01:07A lot rests on this match-up with Tottenham.
01:09While Amarim seems to still be popular and well-liked,
01:12the club have a history of removing managers who aren't performing.
01:15Coaches like Jose Mourinho and Eric Ten Hag lost their jobs even after winning silverware.
01:19Amarim can scarcely afford much more of the disappointment that's followed him around this season since joining from Sporting Lisbon.
01:26He's clearly a capable manager, but he's still young and the club appears to need another significant reset.
01:31If he can prove an ability to win trophies, he may just prove his ability to lead the club forward.
01:36If not, it's set to be another uneasy summer for the team and they can scarcely afford another one of those.
01:40That's all for now. Thank you for watching. Follow Manchester World for more.
