At a Senate Republican press briefing on Tuesday, Sen. John Thune (R-SD) was asked about the legislative filibuster.
Transcript
00:00Can you tell me your response to Democrats saying that this CRA vote is equivalent to going nuclear and that it's a slippery slope here with the filibuster, which you have said you want to preserve?
00:11Correct, and I do. And that hasn't changed and that won't change.
00:15The only people that have attempted to get rid of the legislative filibuster are the Democrats.
00:19Every single one of them up there that's popping off and spouting off has voted, voted literally, to get rid of the legislative filibuster.
00:27This is a novel and narrow issue that deals with the Government Accountability Office and whether or not they ought to be able to determine what is a rule and what isn't,
00:35or whether the administration and the Congress ought to be able to make that decision.
00:39This administration has said it's a rule. We believe it qualifies under the CRA, as Senator Capito has said,
00:45and we're going to move forward and do away with a mandate that essentially is an attempt by the Democrats to get rid of the internal combustion engine.
00:53It's that simple. They want an EV mandate nationwide. They're trying to do it through California and this has nothing to do with the legislative filibuster.
01:03This is a rule and everything we're going to be doing tomorrow is going to be limited to that.
