What makes Newark one of the best places to live in the UK
Transcript
00:00I'm not from Newark, but I've always felt close ties with it. My mum's side of the family's from here.
00:06So my great-grandfather and his father were policemen here back in the 1800s and early 1900s.
00:16And so I've got lots of family history and stories.
00:21And apart from that, I just love that it's retained most of its historical character.
00:25The successive councils haven't embarked on a programme of destroying all of its beautiful ancient buildings that make it intrinsically Newark.
00:37There are a few things. The nice castle, the walkways, the boutique, is that the word? I'm looking for shops and things like that.
00:49Well, it's still cobbled and it's good. Of course, at Christmas, at different times, events go on there.
00:59Well, we're just about to go outside at River now to that big barge that's on there. That's nice.
01:06Just got so much going for it. It's just a nice place. And my wife loved it. She loved this place.
01:14Unfortunately, she's not here now, but she loved it.
01:18Well, it's quite nice by the riverside. I walk down the riverside and that.
01:24They'll have things going off in the river as well sometimes. So that's quite nice.
