00:00Hi, I'm digital reporter Amy Seddon.
00:04At the end of the month, the top comedian Maisie Addon comes to Blackpool to perform in the Manfred's Comedy Club,
00:11the finale event at Blackpool's Comedy Festival.
00:14Before her revival in the seaside town, Maisie sat down to talk about how excited she is to come to Blackpool.
00:21In fact, why she's obsessed with it.
00:24Take a look at what else she had to say next.
00:26I do quite a lot of comedy festivals throughout the year, especially towards the summer.
00:32But I am obsessed with Blackpool.
00:36I used to go every year as a kid and now to be there gigging with acts like this is mega.
00:45So I'm going part for myself, really, rather than anything else.
00:49But if people want to join me and make an audience, I'd be very grateful.
00:53Excellent. Yeah, excellent. And listen, you're on with some brilliant comedians as well, aren't you?
00:58So you could be an absolute riot on stage.
01:02Oh, like, again, when you when you get booked for festivals, you always kind of hope that you're going to be on with people who are fun backstage and good on stage.
01:12And that is exactly what Blackpool's come through with here.
01:17Like, I think on the on the on the show I'm on with, it's Emmanuel Sanubi, Russell Howard and Hayley Ellis.
01:24And that's like a that's a dream, a dream green room, let alone a dream line up on stage.
01:30So, yeah, I'm absolutely buzzing for it.
01:33I was going to say, you know, the new Amazon series, last one standing or whatever it was and it was and it's been absolutely brilliant.
01:43I think it gives us a little insight into what maybe comedians do backstage because everyone says, is it are you are you are you all showing off?
01:52Are you all trying to make each other laugh? I mean, what what does happen backstage?
01:55Is it just like that? It's funny. It totally depends.
02:00Some people are like you'd think they were going out to do some sort of like keynote speech and then others turn up and they're still unzipping their coat and checking their emails as their names being read out to go on stage.
02:12And they still go out and storm it. And I think what's lovely about this group is it's it's made up of like like Emmanuel and me.
02:21We kind of we've come through at the same sort of time. And so we've watched each other do the same gigs as we've got to sort of this point.
02:30Russell Howard, I can remember going to see when I was at school and just wanting to like watch what he did.
02:40And now like I did his podcast a couple of months ago and that felt really strange to be like, God, I'm now sat with you chatting to me asking how things are going.
02:48And he's still, you know, on top form. So it's always great to gig with somebody like that and basically take notes from the side going, oh, how did he do that?
02:59How did he do that? And then in a very similar vein, Hayley Ellis is like a circuit legend, you know,
03:06because she's won best MC a couple of times now, like for the work that she does in the clubs.
03:14And she's just I've watched her at gigs that have been you think, God, how are you going to get anything out of this?
03:21How are you going to do something here? And she somehow manages to take the roof off.
03:25She's she's amazing to watch.
03:27And for you, if you just finished your tour now, if I was looking on.
03:31Yeah, just finished. Yes. How did that go? And will maybe some of that come into the the act?
03:37Definitely. Definitely. Because we were trying to make Blackpool work for ages and none of the venues were available when I was on the tour.
03:47So there was a day where I had, I think, Carlisle and someone like Carlisle and then Liverpool.
03:54And I was like, well, I could call into Blackpool, really.
03:58And I was like, even though I didn't have a gig because it was I had a day off and I was like, can we try and get Blackpool in there?
04:04And none of the venues that are like the, you know, sort of right sort of size could fit us in.
04:10And they all were booked in or what have you. So I was kind of gutted not to make it.
04:15But I still went and made a night of it anyway, because it was in November and the illuminations were on.
04:21So I was like, I'll still go. And my husband had never been before.
04:25So we went and we had like a day at the Pleasure Beach and then had a walk along the front.
04:30It was great. But I was a little bit gutted that I wasn't able to get Blackpool in the in the in the tour.
04:36So hopefully this is kind of making up for it. So, yeah, I'll basically try and cram the best bits of the show into the set.
