The U.S. has officially added the B61-13 nuclear bomb to its stockpile as part of a major modernization effort. With a maximum yield of 360 kilotons—seven times stronger than its predecessor, the B61-12—the new bomb features advanced precision guidance for striking hardened and deeply buried targets. Defense officials emphasize it replaces the older B61-7 and does not increase overall stockpile size. Deployable on modern bombers like the B-2 Spirit and B-21 Raider, the B61-13 was completed nearly a year ahead of schedule, underscoring its key role in America’s deterrence strategy.
