00:00Oh no, and all of the things that you saw
00:03Oh no, and all of the things that you saw
00:04Yes
00:06To jazz
00:07This is a methaphone
00:11It is exactly what it looks like
00:13A clear piece of acrylic shaped like an iphone
00:15But why does it exist?
00:17My friend is actually the inventor and creator of these
00:19And he told me that what he wanted to test
00:21Was if we're all so addicted to our phones
00:24Then could you potentially curb somebody's addiction
00:27by replacing the feeling of having a phone in your pocket
00:31with something that feels exactly the same.
00:33Now, I commentate on technology's impact on society, right?
00:37So obviously I have something to say here.
00:39I think the reason 13 million people and counting
00:43are intrigued about that video of me in the boba shop
00:46and why this is so completely sold out right now
00:49is because this little piece of acrylic
00:51feels like a physical artifact
00:53that directly responds to this collective tension
00:56we all feel about how our devices
00:59which are meant to make us more connected
01:01are actually having the exact opposite effect.
01:04This is not news. I don't need to record this.
01:06But even as we're all astutely aware of that
01:08like what are we supposed to do?
01:11We're all just individuals up against what?
01:14The entirety of big tech?
01:16And I think that's why this little piece of acrylic
01:19feels so empowering.
01:21I mean, honestly, look, have I used my phone less
01:24in the past week that I've been carrying this around
01:26with me? Probably not.
01:28But just the idea that I could have something in my life
01:31something I can touch and hold
01:32and the conversation that this little guy is sparking online
01:36that's what really matters.
01:38But what do you think, really?
01:39I mean, do you think that a single piece of acrylic
01:42could actually start to help us get back in touch
01:45with our humanity?
01:46Or is this just a weird party trick?
01:48Oh, and if you know why this is called a methaphone
01:51drop that knowledge in the comments, drop that.
