House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) held a press briefing on Monday where he was asked about the family of Ashli Babbitt receiving a $5 million settlement from the US government.
Transcript
00:00The Chief of Police of the United States Capitol Police Force clearly and plainly said,
00:21and I support the position, that the settlement was a slap in the face to the hardworking
00:29courageous and brave men and women of the United States Police Force.
00:34It was totally done without any communication to the Chief of the Capitol Police or his lawyers
00:47and appears solely the result of a political determination that Donald Trump and Republicans
00:56are going to try to whitewash what happened on January 6th.
01:00This settlement is just an extension of what they've previously done, which is to pardon violent felons
01:08who violently attacked the Capitol on January 6th, including police officers, and now have all been pardoned
01:22and sent back to communities across the country, where in some cases they're reengaging in criminal activity.
01:29Donald Trump and the extreme mega Republicans are not going to be able to erase what happened on January 6th,
01:37no matter how hard they tried.
