‘Glorifying the American Girl’ is a 1929 American pre-Code musical comedy film produced by Florenz Ziegfeld and directed by John W. Harkrider and Millard Webb. The film follows Gloria Hughes, a young woman who dreams of becoming a Ziegfeld Follies star. She works at a department store’s sheet music counter, where she sings the latest hits, accompanied by her childhood sweetheart, Buddy. When vaudeville performer Danny Miller offers her a chance to join his act, she sees it as her big break. However, she soon realizes that Miller has ulterior motives. Eventually, Gloria is discovered by a Ziegfeld representative and rises to stardom, though she faces personal heartbreak along the way. The film is notable for its early Technicolor sequences and cameo appearances by Broadway and Hollywood stars, including Rudy Vallee, Helen Morgan, and Eddie Cantor.
