Democrats, media still refusing to own the Biden-decline coverup - Democrats have learned nothing from the backlash to their constant lies about then-President Joe Biden’s mental decline. In an interview with Puck, onetime top Biden aide Michael LaRosa admitted the obvious: The staff knew that the ex-prez’s “age was an issue” from “Day 1” and opted for “gaslighting” the public when his behavior raised alarms. Yet in the same breath, he pushed back against calling this a “coverup” as “a little harsh.”

Not remotely harsh enough, in fact: That the Bidenites, Dems in general and most of the press kept up the deception so long has earned them a lasting distrust — and owning up to the wrong is the necessary first step in recovering any credibility.

Hence the broad contempt for journo Jake Tapper’s announcement that he’s co-authoring “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again,” due out May 20.

Yes, his co-author Alex Thompson of Axios stands out for not playing along with the coverup, but Tapper was one of the worst.

Will he be dishing on all the details of his complicity?

Again, most of the press actively played along in the gaslighting for four years as Americans watched their president forget where he was, mix up the names of foreign leaders and mumble his way through press conferences.

Tapper even told Lara Trump in 2020 that she had “no standing to diagnose somebody’s cognitive decline” when she brought it up.

He also attacked doubters for supposedly making fun of Biden’s lifelong stutter.

For years, major media relayed Dems’ talking points that expressing doubts about the president’s mental acuity was right-wing propaganda and cruel ageism, and echoed party leaders’ insistence that he was “sharp” and “focused.”

Now the very same water-carriers complain that President Trump’s team is upending their privileges for White House press briefings.

No matter that they retain far more access to Trump than they ever did to Biden from his first days in the Oval Office.

And the whole pack meant to keep the “Weekend at Bernie’s” charade going to re-elect Biden until that debate made the lies impossible to continue (though some of them tried for weeks more).

None of this makes Americans trust Republicans, but if the GOP fails, the nation will simply face a bipartisan crisis of trust: Dems (and the media) can’t recover by just trying to wait out their shame.

Yet Democrats like LaRosa are still in denial about how much his party’s dishonesty damaged its image, alienated voters and put the country in danger.

And journos like Tapper seem to be hoping they can salvage their reputations by pretending they had nothing to do with the whole thing.

It won’t work, and we hope Tapper’s book admits as much.

The only way to rebuild trust in America’s institutions is for those institutions to start earning it back: More gaslighting will only see ensure it’s dead and buried.

00:00Does the president have the stamina physically and mentally do you think to continue on even
00:05after 2024? Don, you're asking me this question. Oh my gosh, he's the president of the United
00:10States. You know, he, I can't even keep up with him. The most difficult part about a meeting
00:17with President Biden is preparing for it because he is sharp, intensely probing and detail-oriented
00:25and focused. I can testify because I've been working very closely with this president for
00:29the past two years. I've been knowing him for 30 years and I'm telling you, this guy's tough.
00:34He's smart. He's on his game. Joe Biden has a vision. He has knowledge. He has a strategic
00:40thinker. The president is focused. He's detail-oriented. He's always thinking about
00:46the big picture. He's engaging. He is capable. He has an incredible record as president. And I'm
00:53often with him on foreign trips. He's at the top of his game. So he has a vision. He has knowledge.
00:59He has judgment. He has a strategic thinking. I, you know, met with the president, I don't
01:05know, five or six weeks ago, and he seemed fine to me. I have complete confidence in the
01:09president. I have watched him expertly guide meetings of staff and cabinet members. I could
01:17not have more confidence in the president. I would just tell you that I meet frequently
01:22with the president. And every single time I meet with him, he is just fine.
01:28But he is, again, knowledgeable, wise, incredibly sharp, incredibly probing, incredible command
01:36of the details. He is sharp. He is on top of things. There is nothing to these challenges,
01:43these suggestions that somehow he's not sharp and he's not capable.
01:47We see Joe Biden up close. We know how attuned he is to the issue.
01:52And you're going to see how smart he is and the experience he has.
01:56I say his age is an asset.
01:58Aha, he's wise.
01:59Yes, he's wise. He has wisdom. He has experience.
02:03And his experience because of his age and his wisdom has been invaluable to this country.
02:10A lot of countries, people who've been in office a longer period of time are praised
02:14for their wisdom. I have seen a lot of 72-year-olds not as capable as this 80-year-old.
02:22It is hard for us to keep up with this president.
02:25His mental acuity is great. It's fine. It's as good as it's been over the years I've been.
02:31He's fine. All this right-wing propaganda that his mental acuity has declined is wrong.
02:35And this kind of sense that he's not ready for this job is just a bucket of BS that's so deep,
02:40your boots will get stuck in.
02:44It's fine.
03:14I'll see you next time.
