Monday, OK. Let's move on now, shall we, to the Kilmarnock versus Hearts match, the Derek
00:06
McInnes starby, if you like. All the off-field intrigue, well-documented commentary comes
00:12
from Andrew Petrie.
00:15
Welcome to Del Classico, that's what some are calling it, but the elephant in the room
00:20
is that the man in question is nowhere to be seen. McInnes is seemingly on his way to
00:25
Hearts, but he's not in the dugout for Kilmarnock today. Chris Burke is the Kille caretaker
00:31
for the time being.
00:34
He makes three changes from Derek McInnes' final game as Kille manager, a 3-0 loss to
00:39
Motherwell midweek. Robbie McCrory is back in goals with Brad Lyons starting at right back,
00:44
Bobby Wales is up top.
00:46
There's three changes for the visitors who welcome back Xander Clark in goals, Stephen Kingsley
00:51
partners Frankie Kent at the back, Callum Neuvenhoff also comes in, replacing the
00:55
outgoing George Grant in midfield.
01:08
Kingsley up against Kyle Vassell. It's gone the way of the Hearts man, who's striding forward,
01:14
unchallenged. He goes for goal!
01:17
Fairly caught hold of that Stephen Kingsley, but it flies over the bar.
01:22
He's not scored since December 2023, as Chris Burke watches on with assistant Craig Clark.
01:36
Forrester trying to get that down the line to Forrest, comes back to Benny Beningame.
01:41
Forrest, the former Air United man, Jinking, inside.
01:48
Mill deputising for James Penry still.
01:52
Here's Devlin from distance now.
01:55
That one trundles past the post.
01:59
The opening exchanges have certainly had the feel of an end-of-season game, that's for sure.
02:03
The sun shines down on Rugby Park, both of these sides, perhaps on the beach, nice and early.
02:15
Liam Fox watching on.
02:17
He will not stay at Hearts next season.
02:19
That's been announced.
02:22
The caretaker manager leaving the club he's been affiliated with for a long time.
02:26
Meanwhile, here it come, Kilmarnock, Fraser Murray.
02:32
Jinking on to the right, and it's blocked.
02:34
Close range by Benny Beningame.
02:36
Danny Armstrong blasts.
02:39
And that's over the bar as well.
02:43
Armstrong, who has, of course, been linked to Hearts.
02:48
That's what he thought of that.
02:49
Decent turn from Kyle Vassell.
02:54
The Kelly captain.
02:56
Only just back to fitness.
02:59
They're looking to end their season on a high.
03:05
Well, this is a problem for Hearts.
03:07
Sander Clark is not happy about something.
03:10
He has missed the last couple of weeks with injury.
03:13
It looks like Ryan Fulton, who's started the last two,
03:17
is going to replace the Hearts keeper.
03:18
Of course, no Craig Gordon.
03:23
He's still out with a shoulder injury.
03:25
His contract expiring in the summer as well.
03:37
Beningame coming forward for Hearts.
03:42
It's a strange fact.
03:43
They've not won on the last day of the season since 2004.
03:48
In the top flight.
03:51
As Forrest and Forrester combine.
03:54
Shankland on the edge of the box.
03:56
Back to Forrest.
03:59
He goes for goal.
04:00
Robbie McCrory gets it at the second attempt.
04:03
There's a Hearts player scurrying after that.
04:05
McCrory able to gather.
04:11
Mill to Danda.
04:16
Both sides still playing at a comfortable pace.
04:20
But Ingemi forward to Danda.
04:21
Trying to skip through a few challenges.
04:23
He goes down.
04:24
And it will be a Hearts free kick.
04:29
As Dan McFarlane, the referee, waves the physios on.
04:32
Stuart Finlay's taking a sore one there.
04:34
Looks like Jan Danda has as well.
04:35
David Watson, I think, is the man adjudged to have committed the foul.
04:41
Dan McFarlane is going to go across to the screen here.
04:46
I'll be honest, I'm not sure what for.
04:49
Well, it could be that challenge there.
04:51
Jan Danda catching Finlay on the calf with his studs.
04:56
It's perhaps a little unfortunate.
04:58
but he certainly does catch the Kilmarnock defender
05:04
who has suffered an ankle injury already this season.
05:09
And Dan McFarlane has seen enough.
05:12
And he's going to his top pocket.
05:14
And Jan Danda is off here.
05:16
A red card at Rugby Park.
05:18
And it's not for Kilmarnock.
05:20
It is for Hearts.
05:21
Jan Danda receiving his marching orders.
05:24
His season coming to an end prematurely.
05:28
I can't quite believe it.
05:30
I don't think there's much malicious intent in that.
05:36
Fraser Murray.
05:39
Driving at Forrester.
05:40
Goes on the outside and clips in.
05:42
There's the header.
05:44
And Bruce Anderson only just on the pitch.
05:47
At halftime.
05:48
And it's straight at Ryan Fulton.
05:50
Easy enough for the former Hamilton Acquis keeper to gather.
05:58
Chris Burke jotting down some notes in the second half.
06:05
This side yet to press home their man advantage.
06:09
This could be a chance.
06:10
Fulton gives it away.
06:11
Fraser Murray with the drive.
06:13
And he slices that horribly, horribly wide.
06:17
And Ryan Fulton far too casual there.
06:23
And Frankie Kent couldn't control.
06:25
Hearts almost playing themselves into a spot of bother.
06:30
Big let off for the substitute keeper.
06:32
Flicked inside.
06:42
No free kick given.
06:44
Hearts will come forward now.
06:45
Shankland.
06:47
Looks for Cammy Devlin.
06:50
Alan Forrest making the run.
06:51
He gets the ball now.
06:52
Devlin in the box.
07:00
He's worked the 1-2.
07:01
This is a chance for Devlin.
07:02
That's a brilliant save.
07:04
Robbie McCrory.
07:06
He doesn't score too many goals Cammy Devlin.
07:10
A wry smile there.
07:11
He knows that was a chance.
07:14
And in fairness to him.
07:15
It wasn't a bad effort.
07:19
Slicing across the ball.
07:20
Brilliant reflex save from Robbie McCrory.
07:23
Only just back in the team.
07:27
Frankie Kent taking the goal kick.
07:29
As Ryan Fulton has picked up a knock.
07:31
We'll hope that's not too serious.
07:33
With Xander Clark already off the pitch.
07:37
They've won a free kick here though.
07:39
James Wilson unfairly fouled by Corian Daba.
07:42
Forrester launched it towards the Kilmarnock box.
07:55
Watkins taking his time to clear.
07:57
And it's not the best clearance.
07:59
The ball bubbling around.
08:00
Kingsley with the shot.
08:02
Stephen Kingsley with the goal.
08:06
Hearts are ahead at Rugby Park.
08:08
Well that goal certainly has an end of season feel about it.
08:16
Dreadful Kilmarnock defending.
08:18
And Stephen Kingsley can't quite believe his luck.
08:21
That no home defender has gotten in the way of this.
08:26
Almost invited to shoot in the box.
08:29
Just cuts across the ball.
08:32
And it's in off the post.
08:34
A rare goal.
08:36
For the Hearts defender.
08:38
And it gives them the lead late on in Kilmarnock.
08:43
Well there is going to be a check on this.
08:46
Hearts season might not finish with a flourish just yet.
08:50
Is there a handball in there from James Wilson.
08:52
As he challenges with Fraser Murray.
08:57
Looks pretty hard to tell to be honest.
08:59
Kevin Clancy is the VAR.
09:05
And the goal is given.
09:07
Hearts season will end with a goal.
09:08
And end with all three points.
09:11
There's been a lot of success in the past four seasons.
09:14
So we try and keep that.
09:16
Maintain that level.
09:18
There will be bumps in the road.
09:19
So we could say that one of the positions in this season.
09:22
We don't want to be in.
09:23
We obviously want to aim for top six.
09:24
For the manager's concerns.
09:26
And how that looks.
09:27
That's up to the board.
09:29
How they decide.
09:30
And what they are really, really looking for.
09:33
And what sort of profile they are looking for.
09:35
For the manager.
09:36
They have got a great bunch of players in there.
09:38
That are staying on.
09:39
For the manager to come and step into.
09:41
So that will help them hugely.
09:43
So he has already got the culture in place.
09:45
For sure.
09:46
Listen.
09:46
I am naturally disappointed to be leaving the football club.
09:49
But I think.
09:49
I speak to players all the time.
09:51
You have got a choice of what you do.
09:52
Off a disappointment.
09:53
And I can choose to be angry.
09:56
To be upset.
09:56
To be.
09:57
But I am not.
09:58
I am choosing to be really, really positive.
10:00
I am choosing to be really, really thankful for the opportunity.
10:02
Really thankful for the learnings.
10:05
And.
10:05
This experience will make me a better coach.
10:08
A better manager.
10:09
A better person.
10:10
So I am choosing to look at it that way.
10:12
And hopefully working out with my head to all time.
10:13
Liam Falks certainly signing off on a high four wins in a row for Hearts.
10:20
Everybody expects Derek McInnes to take over.
10:22
He wasn't in attendance today.
10:23
Where do you think Derek McInnes was watching this today?
10:25
On the golf course, I think.
10:27
I think so.
10:27
On the buggy.
10:29
Probably.
10:29
I don't know.
10:30
Making the most of the beautiful weather before he gets in the Tynecastle hot seat.
10:34
Don't really associate Jan Dander with red cards, Cammie.
10:39
In fact, I think this might be his first ever red card.
10:43
And we've been talking about it a lot, haven't we?
10:45
Yeah.
10:46
Listen, it's quite a difficult one to look at when you analyse it and look at it a number of times.
10:52
Yeah.
10:52
Listen, first and foremost, the referee actually gives Hearts a foul here.
10:55
I think David Watson wins the ball.
10:57
And then the problem is, it's the follow through from Jan Dander.
11:00
I think that's a red card because of the straight leg and the motion that slightly goes towards Stuart Finlay's leg.
11:07
The way that he catches him high, I think when the referee is asked to go and look at it, he's always going to give a red card.
11:12
Don't really associate Jan Dander with such thuggish behaviour on the pitch, can't we care?
11:17
But actually, you've got a kind of slightly different take on this.
11:20
I mean, it does look bad, though, when the studs are that high up on the calf.
11:23
Yeah.
11:24
For me, it's not a red card.
11:25
But obviously, it's a complete accident.
11:29
For me, it's like if there's a head knock in the game and there's blood or whatever on it.
11:34
It doesn't mean it's an instant red card.
11:36
They've zoomed in on the slow motion to try and, I know, you say find something.
11:41
He has went down his studs.
11:42
I also think that it's the timing in which Stuart Finlay comes in at.
11:46
It's just innocuous.
11:47
And I actually feel so sorry for him because in my eyes, it's never ascending off.
11:52
When you've got the studs up like that and it makes that connection, it can cause real damage, though, to the other player, obviously.
11:58
Yeah.
11:58
And that's all, again, is that part of the game that there's going to be contact?
12:03
That's my opinion.
12:04
I don't know if I'm wrong in saying that.
12:06
But there's loads of things in the game.
12:08
If we're stalked everything like that, there'd be so many sendings off.
12:11
Listen, I think when the reason I'm saying it's a red card and I think it is a red card is this incident here.
12:17
When you see it coming into him, look at his foot.
12:19
His foot goes straight and goes straight into Stuart Finlay's leg.
12:22
You see it's a straight leg and I think that straight leg motion means it's a red card.
12:27
And again, that's a dangerous high challenge for me.
12:31
Yes, it's unfortunate the way the plays played out and Stuart Finlay's came in at that time.
12:36
But I do think that the straight leg makes it a red card.
12:39
It did have a sort of sleepy end of season feel to it for most of this match, Cammie.
12:44
Yeah, I suppose we should get on to the second most famous Kingsley in Scottish football, Stephen.
12:50
He took it well and it did mean that, as I say, Hearts finished the season with a fourth straight victory.
12:56
A bit of a slight controversy, but the right decision for the goal to stand?
13:00
Definitely, yeah.
13:01
There was a wee bit of talk about the handball, but I feel like it's a great finish from Kingsley.
13:06
I'm not too sure about what you say when the ball drops.
13:09
I think Watkins can clear that where he's left it.
13:11
And even still, the clearance has got to get out of the box for me, but Kingsley's in a great position there.
13:18
And do you know what? He's been a great servant for Hearts.
13:21
I know he's been injured this season, but he's done great there.
13:24
Quite relieved that that wasn't good.
13:26
Yeah, absolutely. Listen, you can't actually definitively say whose arm that hits there.
13:29
They're both challenging for the ball. That should just be left alone.
13:32
And it was the referee's decision on the pitch was a goal, and I think that should just be left alone.
13:37
And Derek McInnes, let's just sum up briefly.
13:39
He is probably going to be the next Hearts manager.
13:42
It'll probably get announced very soon.
13:44
Big success at Tynecastle, do you think he'll be next season, Cammy?
13:47
Yeah, I think he will be. I think they've made a good appointment.
13:50
I think he'll get the sign-ins, hopefully, that he wants to bring in.
13:54
As you showed at Kilmarnock, he's got a blend of great, talented players,
13:58
but a real hard-working squad that he's always had.
14:00
Probably not had the successes that they did last season for a number of reasons,
14:06
probably the start with European football, getting used to that with the squad size and stuff.
14:10
But I think he'll do a really good job in there.
14:12
I think the Hearts fans will get right behind him, and it'll be a massive success.
14:16
OK, the season is coming to a close, but plenty of action still to come.
