00:00An ultramarathon contest across breathtaking and often dangerous mountain ranges on Aranda country has ended with a show of camaraderie.
00:12It's not necessarily the elevation, everything is just like jagged and trying to stab you and you can never get like a clear footing or a cadence.
00:20Two strangers teaming up along the excruciating course to make history together. They've run the 231km Larrapinta Trail to Alice Springs in under two days, a feat recommended for hikers over two weeks.
00:38It was cool, we had a chat about it. Where was it? At Jay Creek? Because we've been running together for about 100km at that point.
00:46I think he's the winner in my heart because he was waiting for me all the time. I had so many downs.
00:56I would have been so lost in some of those canyons.
00:58Organisers say this year's event is the largest yet, with more than 500 people signing up across four distances, ranging from 25km to the mammoth 231km, starting all along the Larrapinta Trail and ending here at the Alice Springs Telegraph Station.
01:18The first to cross the finish line, a competitor from the 128km race, sprinting past the record for that leg by around three hours.
01:29What an epic experience, like, blown away with what I just did. I was deep in the pain cave, it didn't always feel pretty.
01:37Only around half of the ultramarathoners are expected to finish, with some happy to call it a day.
01:44It sort of feels like if someone took a hammer to your foot for about 110km, that's how I feel right now.
01:51After 24 hours doing it, I couldn't fathom another 24 hours. Decide to pull the pin and sit here and eat some brownies for breakfast.
01:59For many who take on the trail, it's not about winning.
02:03What's most, I suppose, special is that this is a race that people don't just do, it's actually something that can literally change their life.
