‘The Freshman’ is a 1925 American silent comedy film directed by Fred C. Newmeyer and Sam Taylor, starring Harold Lloyd. The story follows Harold Lamb, an eager but naïve young man who enrolls at Tate University, determined to become the most popular student on campus. Inspired by a movie hero, he adopts the nickname "Speedy" and tries to win over his peers by joining the football team. However, his enthusiasm makes him the target of ridicule, and he unknowingly becomes the laughingstock of the school. Despite setbacks, Harold perseveres, leading to a climactic football game where he finally proves himself. The film is one of Lloyd’s most successful works and was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry for its cultural significance.
