Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales expressed interest in joint practices with the Texans. Payne & Pendergast would be down for it.
Transcript
00:00The Texans will play at Minnesota, home for the Panthers at Detroit, all on Saturday, all during
00:05the afternoon. It's a pretty cookie-cutter preseason. No Hall of Fame game or anything
00:09like that this year for the Texans. But the one thing with preseason games could come with
00:15joint practices. We've seen that both seasons that D'Amico's been here so far. The Dolphins,
00:21his first year here, should have had them with the Saints. They canceled those. Then last year,
00:25the Rams came to town. If there's going to be joint practices here, it'll be with the
00:29Carolina Panthers. That's the only home game in the preseason. And Dave Canales, the head coach
00:34of the Panthers, is hoping to get some joint practices, or at least talking about it, with
00:38the Texans. We're reaching out to Houston and Pittsburgh as well to kind of see what the level
00:43of interest for those guys are. Think about having a joint practice with Houston in that heat and
00:48getting the acclimation. It'll be hot here, but I know I was in Tampa for a year, so just being able
00:56to get some acclimation, again, just another great way to just challenge the guys to maintain focus
01:01in a different type of environment. So we're open to those things with the Texans and the Steelers.
01:07It's funny, Seth, until the Texans win a Super Bowl, the one thing that I'm going to be puffing our
01:12chest out about, when people talk about other cities and how hot they are, I'm like, no, no, no,
01:17no. We have the hottest training camps. You don't even know. Shut your mouth. No, no. I made the
01:24same mistake because I played in Florida for five years. It pretty much on the same interstate that
01:29runs through Houston, the same latitude, everything. And I got here and no way, man.
01:35It's different here. It's different in Houston. So the one thing about the Panthers, it's not like
01:41they have a classic Panthers defensive line with so many of the various studs they've had through
01:46the years. So it won't be a, won't be a huge test if they do have combined practices, but still,
01:52yeah, is my, the offensive line versus actual competition as much as possible and different
01:57jerseys, I'd be all about that. For me, it's all about the offensive line. Yeah. And it just spices
02:02things up like training camp. There can, there can get to be, look, I'm sitting here talking about
02:07someone who just sits there and watches it and takes notes on my phone. It's hard to stand there and
02:10watch. Sean, it's harder than, it's harder than actually practicing because you have nothing to do
02:15except think about how hot. You've done both. I'll take your word for it. Yeah. You've done
02:19both. So I thought about hiring a private coach to come and just yell at me to take my mind off
02:23of it. Maybe recreate just some light drills and whatnot. Yeah. The easy days back when I could
02:28just, you know, focus on trying to play football. That's right. Yeah. So it does break the monotony
02:35fun. You know, get up close to see what might've been, you know, Bryce Young, you get Bryce Young,
02:40we get it. We might get a Xavier Leggett press conference. That'll be the one joint practice
02:44where everybody from the home team is flocking over to the other team's media sessions. Yeah.
02:49They'll be, we'll hear all our familiar voices asking, asking questions of Xavier Leggett.
02:54Yes. Tell it, Hey, see if you can say Susie sells two shelves by the, whatever that is, was that?
03:00Yeah. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Yeah. I do think that there's an opportunity where you've
03:09probably got ties to the rainbow lodge, Sean, because the rainbow lodge does a whole lot of
03:13kind of, you know, game type food and everything. Yeah. And Xavier Leggett eats a lot of wild game.
03:19That would be fun. I feel like the rainbow lodge could do some kind of little social media hit
03:24with Xavier Leggett. Is that the one up in the Heights? It's up in the Heights. Yeah. It's right
03:27on the, it's down on the Bayou. It's not in the Heights. It's on the Bayou. Oh, okay. Okay.
03:31I mean, Alan Parkway. Gotcha. Gotcha. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Wait, wait. I might be wrong on that.
03:35That's my memory of it. I thought it was across the street from Cavator up there.
03:38It probably is. I'm probably way off on this. Yeah. I think you're right. Um, so, um, I may
03:44not be, I haven't been to just answer your question. I do not have connections to the
03:47rainbow lodge, but if Xavier Leggett is going to come cook some raccoon in some sort of,
03:51you know, uh, like some gathering, some appearance out there here, that's what he should do. He
03:56should have a traveling roadshow where he just cooks raccoon every city that he goes
03:59to. I would go, I would totally go. Um, we also, the other reason it'd be good to get
04:04Carolina. We, you and I, we get a chance to maybe goad their owner, David Tepper into throwing
04:08drinks at us. Remember when he did that? He threw like a grumpy old bass.
04:14Yeah. I think you're, uh, tempestuous. It's up on, uh, the rainbow lodges at 21st street
04:21and Ella Boulevard. I just remember eating there once in it, like looking over the water. I think
04:26it was when I was first here in Houston where I moved. It's been a while from my butt. No, no,
04:30no, no. I just remember being on the water. So in my mind, I thought it was down off of,
04:33uh, Allen park. Yep. Yep. Um, so, um, so I'd be up for that thumbs up on the Panthers coming to town
04:39for, uh, for joint practices.
