00:29to the eurovision song contest they must be 100 original and unreleased before a set date

00:36but that's getting harder to enforce and less favorable in the digital age in 2012

00:42denmark's entry almost slipped through even though it had already been making the rounds

03:21so they heavily censored it across their media and even delayed broadcasting the event until after the

03:27referendum some say this hurt italy's chances but they still came in second after abba's waterloo

05:40accused of being wasteful nationalist and politically motivated so naturally when audiences got even a whiff

05:47of that alarm bells went off the song was swapped out for pred dasiras deni which missed out on a spot in

06:04number five yes nagger memysel denmark if you thought broadcasters were strict before buckle up

06:16in 1962 denmark had six songs in the running for their eurovision entry one of them was a swing style

06:27tune performed by 16 year old gita henning it was catchy maybe a little too catchy

06:43after attending rehearsals a producer was heard whistling the melody in the canteen and believe it or not

06:50that counted as a public performance

06:59the song was disqualified before poor gita even got her chance

07:03many believed it would have done better than vuge visa the song denmark ended up sending instead

07:09which finished joint 10th out of the 16 countries competing that year

08:53a presidential election that was widely seen as fixed the song didn't just hint at it either it

08:59apparently even name-dropped the opposition leader victor yushchenko right in the lyrics razom nas bahato

09:07meaning together we are many became the unofficial anthem of the movement

09:19eurovision rules forced the duo to rewrite the song to make it a little less obvious

09:25still the title stayed and they even sang it in multiple languages during their performance
