350,000 daily commuters will be affected.
Transcript
00:00One of the country's largest mass transit systems has come to a screeching halt.
00:04450 members of New Jersey Transit have gone on strike, which could affect as many as 350,000
00:11commuters a day. NJ Transit workers have hit the picket lines over a pay dispute.
00:16The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, the union representing the striking
00:19workers, says members of NJ Transit are the lowest paid locomotive engineers of any major
00:24passenger railroads in the U.S. According to the union, strikers have gone without a raise for six
00:29years and have been seeking a new contract since October 2019. New Jersey Governor Phil
00:34Murphy says that while both sides want a fair deal, the state is unwilling to make one that
00:38would give these 450 workers a better deal than other transit workers. That'll do it for
00:43your daily briefing. From New York City, I'm Kelsey Barbario with The Street.
