Everton boss David Moyes on Seamus Coleman staying in some role next season ahead of their final home game at Goodison Park against Southampton
Finch Farm, Liverpool, UK
Transcript
00:00Irrespective of his own contract situation, I think it would be nice if Seamus Coleman
00:04was leading the team out as captain of the week. I'm not trying to pick the team for
00:08you, David, obviously, but how much does that come into your thinking as well, because of
00:13your long association with Seamus himself as well?
00:16Yeah, it does come into my thinking. But what I will say, you know, Saturdays, or Sunday
00:22I should say, Sunday's a game where we're going to do everything we can and make sure
00:25we prepare the best and play the best we can. But Seamus will stay next season, without
00:32doubt. Seamus will be part of the group. I need him here. His leadership, his message
00:40he has amongst the players and in the dressing room is so strong, it would be wrong of me
00:44to let him go. So one way or the other, Seamus will be here certainly next season.
00:48How do you look back at that value that you paid for him all those years ago?
00:51Yeah, overpaid, about ÂŁ60,000 I think at the time, but it was great money spent. And
00:58look, Seamus has actually a little bit more than been a player here. He's gone into a position
01:05where he's helped the club through some of the most difficult periods, but he's never been
01:11to another club. We put him out on loan to Blackpool when he first came in and apart from that, he's
01:16been here and played the games.
