Mark Desaulnier Slams Trump Admin’s Tariff Policy As ‘Erratic Behavior On Main Street America’

During Thursday’s remarks on the House floor, Rep. Mark Desaulnier (D-CA) spoke of his disapproval of President Trump’s tariff policy.

00:03As a former small business owner, I wanted to spend a moment to talk about the consequences

00:07of the administration's policies, both tariffs and the erratic behavior that has an impact

00:14on people like myself who owned restaurants for decades and the thin margins they operate

00:20under.

00:21Forty-two percent, recent surveys have said, of small businesses reported increased costs

00:26due to the administration's policies, both tariffs and otherwise.

00:30I don't think they realized or thought through the effect of these policies on Main Street

00:35America.

00:36Over forty-five percent of Americans are employed by small business.

00:40They are the backbone of Main Street and our economy.

00:43The administration and my colleagues on the other side have to think through the consequences

00:48of this erratic behavior on Main Street America.
