I'm the landlord of the first Reform UK pub in Blackpool, The Talbot and this is a pub where people can speak their mind
Transcript
00:00In Blackpool, something a bit different is brewing, and it's not just the beer.
00:03The tab has become the UK's first official Reform UK pub.
00:07Owned by Pete Flynn and licensee Nick Lowe, who've run the pub for 15 years,
00:11it's now relaunched as a political and community hub, proudly serving remainder tiers on tap.
00:16But the owners insist everyone is welcome, regardless of views.
00:19Backed by Blackpool and Fleetwood Reform UK chairman, Mark Butcher,
00:22the move is part of a grassroots push to bring politics into everyday spaces,
00:26with cheap pints and open conversation.
00:28With plans already in motion to expand to nearby Fleetwood,
00:31the team say they're creating a space for real talk and reform values.
00:34Could this be the start of a new kind of political pub chain in Britain?
00:38Hi, good afternoon. My name's Pete Flynn, the co-owner of the new Talbot Reform UK pub,
00:43the first Reform UK pub in the world.
00:48Everybody's welcome. No racism here.
00:51The press have been absolutely fantastic, really supportive.
00:55The football has increased and everything face-to-face has been so positive.
01:03We're very, very, very happy.
01:06We're common sense policies and that's why 677 seats got in local government.
01:12It seems like three quarters of the country agree with what we're doing.
01:15Again, I'd like to stipulate, everybody is welcome.
01:21Cheers.
01:22Talbot Pub, it used to be just an ordinary bar, a social club, working man's club,
01:27but now they've decided to make it the Reform and it's a great idea.
01:31It's getting a lot of publicity and we're all for it around here
01:34because it's time for change around here.
01:35It's so low and deprived that it's hard for us.
01:39I don't really drink, but I used to go in there on a Thursday and Monday
01:44with my friend Chris, who's also disabled.
01:46We go in there for a quiet, we don't drink, but we go in there for a bit of time together,
01:50a bit of chat with a few people in there.
01:52It was very quiet.
01:53There weren't a lot of people in there, to be honest.
01:55But, you know, there's a lot of people who ain't got no money around here,
01:58so it's hard for him to drink.
01:59But that Nick, he's a good man because he gets drinks as low as he can
02:02and I think he's really doing it for the people around here.
02:04He's really trying to make a statement for the people around here
02:07because they've got nothing.
02:08It's hard work.
02:09I will go back in there, yeah, because I've got a lot of respect for him now
02:12because he's stood up and done something.
02:13So at the end of the day, Nick, I'm proud of you.
02:16You know what I mean?
02:17Because as I said, there's a lot of people around here that ain't got nothing.
02:20And the pub was quiet before, to be honest.
02:22On a Saturday and Sunday, it'd get busy, but in the week, it was very, very quiet.
02:26But I will start drinking there again now to support him, to support him
02:30because he's obviously supporting Reform.
02:32So we all stick together and there we go, might make change.
