00:00I create huge artwork that will disappear and I love this concept that
00:06maybe I can let traces in memories but not on the planet hello and welcome to
00:14Qatar 365 with me Laila Humaira on this episode we take you around the
00:19country's popular yearly festivals it's a chance for people of all ages
00:24together to spend some quality time together but first I'm here at hotel
00:29park the site of the biggest ever edition of the Qatar International Food
00:34Festival and this year it's back with some exciting new features let's go find
00:39them these fireworks kept visitors and foodies entertained for 10 straight days
00:45decorating the night sky for everyone to enjoy the colorful display in the sky
00:50and bursts of different flavors on their palettes over 100 stalls nearly 30
00:59international restaurants and cafes a special kids zone and an eating
01:04competition it's the most dynamic edition of the food festival yet but that's not
01:09all a new addition to the festival lineup is the Michelin village with the launch of
01:15the Michelin guide Qatar last December here you can find a few Michelin start
01:19restaurants from all over the world like the two Michelin start Aramburu all the
01:24away from Argentina so if you've ever wondered what it's like to taste Michelin
01:29is the first Argentine chef to be awarded two Michelin stars he also made the list of the best chefs
01:34top 100 chefs in the world in 2023
01:37while Aramburu is the first Argentine chef to be awarded two Michelin stars he also made the list of the best chefs
01:41top 100 chefs in the world in 2023
01:45while Aramburu is more used to serving up 18 course menus he's happy to offer a taste of his award-winning dishes in Qatar
01:52well no primera vez en Qatar en este maravilloso yúnico festival la verdad que se ve la vibra de la gente
01:59top 100 chefs in the world in 2023 while aramburu is more used to serving up 18 course menus
02:07he's happy to offer a taste of his award-winning dishes in qatar bueno primera vez in qatar in doha
02:42the restaurant is located in singapore but its roots also trace back to south america
02:48where chef francisco araya says the classic empanada is the best sempler so what we're
02:53doing is a bit more casual street food kind of uh thing that we do in chile so we have a classic
02:58empanada made with the beef on top there's a sauce called pebre which helps to add a seat in the
03:03empanada but that is just wonderful and that is just this little pocket of love that you must try
03:09outside the michelin village are at least five other zones with endless dining options including
03:18global bites featuring international restaurants and eateries visitors can get a taste of delicacies
03:25from all over the world from trendy tenders of miami soul fly chicken to the diverse offerings of
03:31africana from the uk africana is a african inspired restaurant so we have a lot of flavors from
03:38different parts of africa from south africa all the way up to kind of north africa different
03:42dishes with different spices different flavors very diverse continent my favorite item is the
03:47curry goat it's seasoned but in curry with jollof rice and plantain and must fry for everybody we
03:52also have peri wings with africana signature sauce and chicken tenders so a diverse range of
03:59items but in the curry goat for me is probably the most important meanwhile soul fly chicken started
04:04as a food truck roaming around the streets of miami in 2021 since then chef raoul cunningham says the
04:11love for fried chicken and southern cuisine has gone global it's the way of the world um getting fried
04:18chicken is comforting in many fashions it's something that you would sit down and have as a family meal
04:24it's something that's labor intensive so now being able to offer it to people you know on the goal it just
04:31is spreading the love soul fly is also trying to change the image of fried chicken as an unhealthy
04:39meal using a sound wave technology cooking method so patrons can enjoy the food without worrying about
04:45the weighing scale we're using um technology that allows our chicken to be uh 30 percent less calorie and
04:53and 30 percent less fat oil um and the soul is the seasoning and the methods that we go into
05:00marinating and frying our chicken that put my mind at ease as we sample soul fly chicken's signature dishes
05:07the juicy chicken tenders and the classic chicken sandwich to cap off the evening as the saying goes
05:14a full stomach makes for a happy heart and soul fly chicken hopes to win enough hearts and taste buds
05:21in qatar to come back for good that's what the the joy is about it um in hopes you know and sometime
05:27in the future that we can actually be based here where it's not something that you have to wait until
05:33we come to a food festival for something that you guys will be able to have year round
05:37from food that tantalizes the taste buds to another feast for the census the qatar kite festival
05:52yoanna who's visits the old doha port for a dazzling display of artistry in the air and on the ground
05:58from animals to floating dow boats and even cartoon characters qatar's kite festival is a celebration of
06:08creativity and culture dozens of meters up in the sky more than 60 professional kite flyers from over 20
06:15countries have traveled to qatar ready to loosen their strings and hopefully fly high
06:20i'm from germany born in hamburg and i love to fly kites since i was a very young boy let's say 11
06:29years old and until now i fly my kites all over the world it's a sport of course having the skill
06:35of flying a kite but we are all kite makers as well so besides flying the kite we make our kites ourselves
06:42and of course every kite flyer have special designs so it's a mixture of art and sport
06:51the kite of all shapes and sizes grace the skies above the old doha port this festival
06:56but for wolfgang the kites he loves most are those replicating animals in their natural habitats
07:01fish out of water so to speak swimming sky high i have many kites i have mostly i like kites who fly in
07:09the air and do the shape like they be in their own water or air so when they fly in the air they look
07:16like they fly in their own natural environment so i have a shark and many fish or a squid so when they
07:21fly in the air they look like they fly in their own water as well as looking up friends and families
07:30visiting the qatar kite festival are also encouraged to look down as there is plenty to see here on the ground
07:36the world-renowned french swiss artist known as site has turned the grass in the old doha poured into
07:42a canvas for one of his signature giant artworks an eco-friendly painting that is so big it's actually
07:48best seen from the sky if i need to defeat myself as an artist i would say that i make a bridge between
07:55land art and street art i'm known to paint huge eco-friendly painting directly on nature so that means that
08:04the painting is ephemeral and the the materials that they use is very easy it's like wood charcoal
08:11and chalk and a casein which is a protein of milk that will make natural glue to fit the paint directly
08:18on the grass saib's art can last for days or months depending on the natural surface he paints on
08:25in addition to old doha port he was also invited to spray the sands of sea line the kite festival's
08:30second location but whether it's the desert or the city his art always has a special meaning
08:36i try to spread messages of hope of peace of the different thing that i have in mind all around the
08:44world this is my idea and in the desert i create two hands that create an origami camel and for me that
08:52it was like the travel of the caravan or in the in the dunes it was the beginning of a long
08:58travel to our dream for example so for me that match with the the spirit of the of the desert
09:05and here these two hands that was great an origami bird that's flying around the other kite the the
09:13the bird could be like you know the peace bird as well with the stunning eco-friendly art below
09:19visitors feet and the colorful wind fuel displays above their heads organizers say that in addition to fun
09:25the kite festival is all about sustainability all our festivals we try to go with clean power
09:33i don't think you can get cleaner than this it's uh pure air that is uh that is lifting these kites
09:40and the even the art that the world-renowned artist the site has done both in sea line and here
09:48is using biodegradable material and it's fantastic it's nice appealing to the eye and also
09:56eco-friendly especially this old port it's amazing we have the wind coming from the sea towards the
10:02shore every year so this is perfect the wind is not turbulence and the place here if you see down the
10:07lawn it's green and it's soft so we can fly our kites we are temporary guests on our planet and it
10:15belongs to us to know what we will let as humans being traces on earth you know so for me this is
10:23something that i always think i create huge artwork that will disappear hopefully people will keep it
10:29in memories you know but i will let traces on nature and i love this concept that maybe i can let traces in
10:37memories but not on the planet saib's painting and the colorful kites greet visitors flying into hamad
10:43international airport before they even touch down so whether it's art viewed from the sky or art
10:49floating in the sky the qatar kite festival appeals to the senses from every perspective this is our third
10:56edition of visit qatar kite festival it's unique because it's it's a family friendly atmosphere
11:05people come and as you can see they are enjoying themselves young children to you know senior adults
11:12so it's for everyone beautiful colors in the sky and beautiful kites i think a picture is more than
11:21a thousand words and that is what we are seeing it every day goes by our visitors are increasing so
11:27there is a steady growth until the last day of the festival and this is what's keeping us going
11:37from eating our hearts out and sampling some of the best street food from around the world
11:41to flying high with wacky kites of all shapes and sizes we hope you've enjoyed this episode but
