Series 6, Week 3, Day 5

Every day this week, celebrity contestants Charlie Baker, Val McDermid, Martin Offiah and Rebecca Lucy Taylor take on a series of quiz rounds selected by the host, quiz legend Richard Osman.

A daily winner is declared following a quickfire round at the end of each show, and the scores are tallied across the week, resulting in an overall champion being crowned on Friday.

Will the winning stars opt for the much-coveted House of Games decanter, or will they be tempted with the House of Games fondue set?

00:00Hello, everybody. Welcome along to the final of this week's House of Games.
00:12I love it on a Friday when we don't know where the trophy is going,
00:16and we really don't today.
00:18Somebody is going to win it, that's for sure.
00:21It's going to be one of these four people, possibly one of three of them,
00:23but listen, we'll get to that.
00:25Our players this week are a terrific bunch.
00:28Martin Afire, Rebecca Lucy-Taylor, Val McDermid, and Charlie Baker.
00:36Oh, it comes down to this. It comes down to Friday.
00:40Val, three wins. Three wins, but let's take a look at the leaderboard.
00:44We might as well, mate, to start off.
00:46You're up the top, of course you are, after three wins,
00:49but a third place yesterday means it's all to play for.
00:53Charlie, just two points behind you, as we can see there.
00:55Rebecca, just three points behind you. Double points Friday.
00:58Eight for a win and so on. Val, how are you feeling?
01:01I'm feeling like the pack is snapping at my heels.
01:03Yeah. I tell you, if you want to win the trophy, you're going to have to win it, aren't you?
01:07That's the nice thing.
01:07Yep.
01:08No default here. Charlie, lovely win yesterday.
01:11If you win today as well, that two-point gap is going to close up.
01:15Will do, won't it?
01:16I always find the brighter the shirt, the lower the confidence.
01:20Really? That's interesting.
01:21Gone quite bright.
01:23Rebecca, yet to have a win this week, but a whole series of second places,
01:26and that means you could still win the trophy as well.
01:28Be a nice day to have a win, right?
01:30It would be so nice, and I want it so bad.
01:34Martin?
01:35It's the first time I've been in the relegation spot.
01:37Yeah.
01:37Well, listen, no relegation here. You're fourth.
01:39Yeah, true.
01:40Yeah, you're fourth. That's pretty nice.
01:41Champions League.
01:41And you and I can sit and watch this battle.
01:43Yeah.
01:44We can do a bit of commentary.
01:45At half-time, I might ask you for a bit of analysis.
01:48That'll be all right, wouldn't it?
01:48You can do that sort of thing easily.
01:50Yeah, a bit of punditry.
01:51Shall we take a look at today's prizes?
01:52Yeah.
01:52I know we're giving away the trophy.
01:54I know that's the most important thing, but there are prizes as well.
01:57There's the deck chair, the bread bin, the cushion, the gents cologne,
02:02or the bookends.
02:03Martin, what do you fancy?
02:05It doesn't really matter.
02:09Martin, they've blown the whistle.
02:11I'm afraid we're going to head out to our commentary.
02:14Rebecca, I know you want the trophy, but if you were to win a prize as well.
02:16I really want the trophy, and I would, you know, I'd take the deck chair.
02:21If you'll force me.
02:22If I have to, I'll take the deck chair.
02:23Val, what would you go for?
02:24Three prizes already?
02:26Well, I'd go for the deck chair.
02:27I already have one deck chair that hangs up on my office wall when it's not in use,
02:31and that would sit very nicely beside me.
02:32Beautiful.
02:32You might as well have two deck chairs you don't use.
02:35And Charlie.
02:37I'd go for the gents cologne.
02:38I've always wanted to smell like you, Richard.
02:39Yeah, I mean, it is quite something, I'll tell you that.
02:42It really is.
02:42Is it a musk?
02:44I don't know what the smell is when you walk past me.
02:47It's something, isn't it?
02:49Yeah.
02:49It's something.
02:50It's sort of, I call it hazmat.
02:52You don't dry your towels properly, is it?
02:54Exactly.
02:56That is what I asked them to do in the lab.
02:58Oh, good.
02:59Called it.
03:00Called it.
03:00Listen, what a week it's been.
03:02Great quizzing.
03:03Val is in pole position.
03:05Three wins, but anyone's trophy.
03:07Shall we do it?
03:08Yeah.
03:08Shall we find out who's going to win House of Games this week?
03:11Our first round is...
03:12Highbrow, lowbrow.
03:17Martin, we'll start with you.
03:18I'm going to ask you two questions.
03:20One is a very highbrow question, worth two points.
03:22One is a lowbrow question, worth one point.
03:24The answers are the same.
03:26OK, so the same answer to both questions.
03:28Here's your highbrow question.
03:30The school of poets whose first generation included Frank O'Hara,
03:36Barbara Guest and John Ashbery is named after which city?
03:41Gosh.
03:42You'll be able to change your answer once you see the lowbrow one,
03:45if you want, so you can just throw the name of a city out there.
03:48Paris.
03:49Paris, you're saying Paris.
03:51Let's see your lowbrow question.
03:54Which city is the sitcom Seinfeld set in?

04:20The one thing we know is he'll share his name with someone
04:22who's the answer to a lowbrow question.
04:24That much we know.
04:26Richard Osmond.
04:27Richard Osmond.
04:28I mean, imagine if I had a question set about me.
04:31I'd love to see what this question is.
04:34Let's take a look.
04:34So, Richard Osmond is your answer.
04:36Let's take a look at your lowbrow question.
04:38See if I'm the answer to it.

04:40I wish.

04:47It's the lead singer?
04:49Yeah.
04:50Oh, what is his name?
04:51Pretty much my favourite band, McFly.
04:55I can see his face.
04:56I could draw him.
04:58Oh, yes.
04:58No, that's round two.
05:00Round two today is draw McFly.
05:03Oh, I'm so sorry.

05:11Harry.
05:12I don't know.
05:13Is he called Alex?

10:25Two points for the lot of you.
10:27Two points for the lot of you.
10:29We now only have four rounds to find out who our champion is going to be.

10:48Have you not?
10:48Okay, Rebecca, you can choose to play with.
10:51Val.
10:52Ah, that's nice.
10:54Rebecca and Charlie, if you'll swap places, please.
10:59Charlie and Martin are a team.
11:00Val and Rebecca are a team.
11:01Let's go.
11:02Now, before the show, you all had to describe a children's film to me.
11:06You're only allowed to use emojis.
11:08You've now got a guest of the children's film your partner sent to me.
11:11Charlie, before the show, Martin sent me some emojis to describe a children's film.
11:16Okay, but which children's film?
11:18Okay.
11:21Mmm.
11:24Is that cheese or a pizza?
11:27I think it's a cheese.
11:29That...
11:32It's a mousetrap, I think.
11:34A mousetrap?
11:35Mmm.
11:36Okay.
11:37Is it the mousetrap?
11:39No.

11:49I'm going to go for Stuart Little.
11:51It's not Stuart Little, I'm afraid.
11:53We don't hand over points, but, Rebecca, if you were going for it.
11:55Oh, what?
11:56Parent Trap.
11:57Parent Trap?
11:59Sorry.
11:59Parent Trap, absolutely.
12:00Well played, Martin, Unlucky Charlie.
12:03Rebecca, before the show, Val sent me a clue to a children's film using just emojis.
12:10Okay.
12:10But which film?
12:11Which film is this?
12:19Finding Nemo.
12:21Is it Finding Nemo?
12:23Oh, no.
12:24That's unlucky.
12:26How is that not Finding Nemo?
12:27Something fish.
12:28I'm sorry, Val.
12:29Looking for a sequel to Finding Nemo.
12:31Oh.
12:31Oh, Finding Dory?
12:32Yeah.
12:33Oh, I'm going to give you a point for that.
12:34Yeah!
12:35I'm going to give you a point for that.
12:37You're right there, that's Dory.
12:40Finding Dory, well done if you said that at home.
12:42Well done if you said Finding Nemo as well, because I've just given you a point.
12:44Yeah.
12:45Now, Martin, Charlie sent me a children's film in the form of emojis, but which children's film is it?
12:57Some of it now looks quite confusing, but I knew what I meant.
13:01I think the heart is there.
13:04There's a lot going on there, but...
13:06I would focus more on the first four.
13:10Yeah, was it like Karate Kid or something?
13:12Is it Karate Kid?
13:13It is the Karate Kid.
13:14I'll tell you what it is.
13:15Very well done.
13:15The last bit is Paint the Fence.
13:18Wow.
13:19Paint the Fence.
13:21Amazingly, I mean, you've got Japan and America and you've got Karate Kid.
13:24Yeah.
13:25I know what I'm going to do.
13:26I don't think that's...
13:27That's just really confusing.
13:29I'm going to do some emojis for Paint the Fence.
13:31Welcome to my brain.
13:32It's good.
13:33Well, listen, it worked.
13:34It worked.
13:35You get yourself a point.
13:36Val, before the show, Rebecca sent me a children's film in emoji form, but which film?
13:44Might be the title, might be the plot.
13:51Okay, house, family, country, scream, sleep, Christmas.
13:59Have you got this one at home?
14:01I'm completely baffled.
14:03I'm sorry.
14:04It's okay.
14:04The lovely thing about totes emoji is if you don't see it, you don't see it.
14:07There's no shortcut to it.
14:10Should we time you out, Val?
14:11I'm afraid it's all.
14:14Is it Home Alone?
14:15Is it Home Alone, is it?
14:16Is it Home Alone?
14:17Yeah.
14:18Yeah.
14:18That is the perfect Home Alone emoji, isn't it?
14:20You could just have done it with the house and one boy by himself.
14:23That's the end of that round.
14:25Very well done if you got all four of those at home.
14:27I suspect some people did.
14:29Charlie, Rebecca, if you could swap back, please.
14:33Now, yesterday, I think we were all on two points after the first round,
14:35and after the second round, we were all on three points.
14:37After the first round today, we were all on two points, that's for sure.
14:40Let's see where we are now.
14:44Would you believe it?
14:45Everybody on three points.
14:47Oh, Martin.
14:48What's it going for?
14:49We have three rounds to go.
14:52Still, anyone's game.
14:55Who's going to win it?
14:56Three rounds?
14:57We'll find out.
14:58Our next round is...
15:03It's all in the name.
15:05Now, the answers in this round are all in the letters of your names.
15:08OK?
15:09So, fingers on buzzers, everybody.
15:11You get a point for a correct answer, but you get two points
15:13if you get one right on your own name.
15:15And, Martin, we're going to start with your name.
15:17So, the first two answers will be in the letters of the name

17:41Two points for each of these.
17:42One point for anybody else.
17:44Charlie Baker.
