00:00:00The End
00:00:30This is Washington, D.C., and in the files of the Central Bureau, there is a story so strange
00:00:43in its implications that it defies ordinary classification. It is the story of a handful
00:00:50of people who, in the course of one desperate night, held back a wave of panic and pandemonium.
00:00:56It began after sundown, time 7.15, as Flight A Coast Patrol from Travis Field was returning
00:01:06to base, when the nightly air force transport pointed north toward Japan via the Great Circle
00:01:13route. While at sea, the Navy and Coast Guard maintained their usual round-the-clock vigil.
00:01:21And from the equator to the Arctic, the radar network swept the skies with eyes that never
00:01:28sleep. Time, 7.19. An unidentified object was picked up 200 miles southwest of Point Barrow,
00:01:39Alaska. 7.27. An unidentified object confirmed at Fairbanks, Alaska.
00:01:50Heading south-southeast, 170 degrees. Height, 75,000 feet. Estimated speed, 5,000 miles per hour.
00:02:03White warning. White warning. 7.39. Unidentified object, 200 miles due west of Vancouver, British
00:02:14Columbia. Course, 170 degrees. Height, 60,000 feet. Estimated speed, down to 3,600 miles per hour. Yellow warning.
00:02:337.54. First interceptor flight airborne. Point of interception, 80 miles due west of San Francisco,
00:02:44California. 7.55. Unidentified object past Point of Interception. Red warning. 8.11. Morro Bay,
00:02:59California. Height, 50,000 feet. Estimated speed, 2,000 miles per hour. 8.15. Santa Monica,
00:03:12California. Height, 10,000 feet. Speed, 1,200 miles per hour. 8.18. All traces of unidentified object,
00:03:26gone. Red warning lifted. By 8.25 at the Los Angeles branch of the Communications Commission,
00:03:36reports of strong interference with radio and television reception began to pour in from the
00:03:42beach area. The monitors went to work immediately. Mobile units were ordered to converge on the
00:03:48vicinity of the disturbance. Pinpoint direction-finding devices began to trace the trouble to its source.
00:04:03This is Mobile One, Hazen speaking. We're at Ocean and Beacon Way,
00:04:07Interference strength 2. Bearing 27 degrees. Over. Mobile One from center. Roger. Over. Mobile Center from Mobile 7. Over. Go ahead, Mobile 7. This is Mobile 7. From the Pacific Center in Beach 4. Interference strength 3. Bearing 39 degrees. Over. This is Mobile Center. Roger. Stand by. Mobile One and Mobile 7. From Mobile Center. Point of interception,
00:04:35Point of interception estimated 3 miles north of Surf. Repeat. 3 miles north of Surf. Acknowledge. This is Mobile 7. Roger. Mobile One. Roger. Mobile 7. Roger. We'll go out.
00:04:52Okay, Charlie. Let's get moved.
00:05:05Yes, what is it? Take me to a phone quick. I need an ambulance. What's the matter? My husband and Pete out there in the picnic grounds just above the beach. They've been hurt. Well, this is a communications car. I'll phone it in from here. A Mobile One to Central. Over.
00:05:19Did you make that out, Charlie? Not a word. A Mobile One to Central. I can't reach you. Repeat.
00:05:31They must be getting us all right. A Mobile One to Central. Have an ambulance set to beach at Surf. Emergency. Two men heard. Acknowledge.
00:05:42Roger now. I'm sure they'll be here soon now. Tell us what happened.
00:05:48Oh, this man. He just kept coming at us. It was awful. Who?
00:05:51I don't know. He was wearing a suit like a diver. Hurry, please. They're hurt.
00:05:56Charlie, you better wait here. I'll go down and take a look.
00:06:03The young woman's hysteria became obvious as they reached the picnic grounds at the beach.
00:06:09There was no sign of the mysterious intruder.
00:06:12And little could be done for her husband and their friend until the ambulance arrived.
00:06:18All right, fellas. How are you doing?
00:06:34Oh, we're just taking another reading now. What happened down there?
00:06:37The police took the girl and one of the guys to the station.
00:06:40What about the other one?
00:06:41Well, he's on the way to the morgue. That was her husband.
00:06:43You're right on the button, Charlie. 44.7.
00:06:46Report back to Central if you find anything else.
00:06:48All right.
00:06:51Charlie, grab that portable and check the beach, will you?
00:06:53Got it right here.
00:06:55I'll pick you up right here in about an hour.
00:06:57Where are you going?
00:06:58Police asked me to drop by the station and sign a report.
00:07:01I'll see you later.
00:07:03If you don't, you know where to look for the body.
00:07:14Like I said, we were just starting to eat and we heard something tracking through the sand toward us.
00:07:19I looked up and couldn't see anything.
00:07:21Then Betty screamed.
00:07:22At what?
00:07:23At what you couldn't see anything?
00:07:24At first we couldn't.
00:07:26Then this guy started toward us.
00:07:28What kind of a guy?
00:07:29How should I know?
00:07:30He was wearing some kind of a helmet over his head.
00:07:32He could have been a deep sea diver or anything.
00:07:34All right.
00:07:35After you saw this diver, what happened?
00:07:38Well, we jumped up.
00:07:40Ed, that was Betty's husband.
00:07:42He allowed him to stop.
00:07:43But he just kept coming.
00:07:45I never saw anything like it.
00:07:47He didn't say anything.
00:07:48He just kept moving in.
00:07:50Then you say he attacked you.
00:07:52No, we didn't give him a chance.
00:07:53Ed grabbed a piece of wood and took a swing at him.
00:07:55That didn't stop him.
00:07:56He caught the end.
00:07:58That's all I remember.
00:08:00Just because a man's taken a walk, there's no reason to slug him.
00:08:03Besides, you don't look like a guy who frightened so easy.
00:08:06How would you feel if somebody with a crazy helmet with pipes sticking out of it came at you in the dark?
00:08:11And look, I know this sounds crazy.
00:08:15But there wasn't any head in that helmet.
00:08:17No head.
00:08:19No head at all.
00:08:21It's the truth.
00:08:22I think you need some coffee.
00:08:23I don't want anything.
00:08:28It's all the same to you, Lieutenant.
00:08:29I've got to pick up one of my men at the beach.
00:08:31Okay, thanks for coming down, Hazen.
00:08:33Hope I didn't put you out.
00:08:34No trouble so long.
00:08:36You too.
00:08:41All right, let's start at the beginning.
00:08:44What well did you know of a dead man?
00:08:46And his wife.
00:08:47Betty and I went to school together.
00:08:49And you had a year.
00:08:50How long were they married?
00:08:51About a year.
00:08:53Wasn't her husband a little older than she?
00:08:56I don't know.
00:08:57But you said you and Mrs. Evans went to school together.
00:09:00Then you never discussed anything personal with her?
00:09:02She did mention he was older, yes.
00:09:04How much?
00:09:05Fifteen, twenty years.
00:09:07What difference does that make?
00:09:08That wasn't too hard, now was it?
00:09:09Where do you live?
00:09:12Six twenty-nine and a half East Palm Court.
00:09:15Why?
00:09:17That's where the Evans live, isn't it?
00:09:19Yeah, I board with them.
00:09:21You do, huh?
00:09:23Now, Mrs. Evans is a good-looking woman.
00:09:28What are you trying to say?
00:09:29Lieutenant Bowers.
00:09:39Where?
00:09:42Yeah, I got it.
00:09:44I'll leave right away.
00:09:46You've been murdered.
00:09:48You have a peach.
00:09:50Keep an eye on this guy until I get back.
00:09:53What do you mean?
00:09:53You'll stay right where you are.
00:09:55At least until Mrs. Evans feels well enough to talk.
00:09:59What do you want from her?
00:10:00Oh, I just want to see if your story checks with hers.
00:10:03After all, you went to school together, remember?
00:10:17You say there were no witnesses, huh?
00:10:19None yet.
00:10:20Anything missing?
00:10:21I don't think so.
00:10:22The cash register wasn't touched.
00:10:23Get a breakdown in the inventory as soon as you can.
00:10:26What about fingerprints?
00:10:27The boys are working on them now.
00:10:39Sorry I'm late.
00:10:40What kept you so long?
00:10:42The lieutenant asked me to hang around a while.
00:10:44What's the score?
00:10:46Man, looks like one of those things.
00:10:48Pretty girl, older husband, young boarder.
00:10:50Kid claims some guy without a head knocked the old man off.
00:10:54Yeah, don't say.
00:10:55Anything else?
00:10:57Yeah, he had a diver's outfit with horns.
00:11:00No.
00:11:00He's going to have to do better than that.
00:11:02How are we doing?
00:11:04I took a reading about ten minutes ago.
00:11:06The radiation has gone out with the tide.
00:11:08What about the radio horn?
00:11:10It's working fine again.
00:11:11I just got a call from Central.
00:11:13They said Mobile 7 picked up some new trouble northeast of here.
00:11:16Here we go again.
00:11:18Hop in.
00:11:20Who reported this murder?
00:11:32There he is there.
00:11:33He lives next door.
00:11:34His name's George Nelson.
00:11:35Hey, Mr. Nelson.
00:11:36Yes, sir.
00:11:36Come here, will you?
00:11:37I'm Lieutenant Bowers, Homicide.
00:11:41You found this, buddy?
00:11:42That's right.
00:11:42He must have just locked up for the night when this happened.
00:11:44How do you know that?
00:11:45Well, he usually does around this time.
00:11:47What were you doing here?
00:11:48I was sitting home watching the fights on TV,
00:11:50and all of a sudden the things start acting up.
00:11:52What has that got to do with it?
00:11:54Well, you don't know this set.
00:11:55You know, it wouldn't work at all when I came home to supper.
00:11:58Then all of a sudden it cleared up fine.
00:12:00So I thought, well, I'll get set to look at the fights again,
00:12:03and all of a sudden out it goes again.
00:12:04So I thought maybe the battery station down here
00:12:06was overcharging the circuit,
00:12:07and I'm sure I came back and take a look.
00:12:09That's all.
00:12:10Hey, don't you ever quit work?
00:12:12What's up this time?
00:12:15Another murder?
00:12:17What are you doing here, Hazen?
00:12:19Same as before.
00:12:20Still trying to track down that signal in a cell.
00:12:22Hey, does that stuff work on TV, too?
00:12:24Well, it has been for hours.
00:12:26What'd I tell you?
00:12:27What's the matter?
00:12:28Seems to sit one on the blink.
00:12:30Well, at least we know we're on the right track.
00:12:32How'd you make out of that border?
00:12:34You're still sticking to a story.
00:12:36The guy had no head.
00:12:38Well, I'll be seeing you.
00:12:38So long.
00:12:39Right.
00:12:40Come on, Charlie.
00:12:40Hey.
00:12:40And so the communications team resumed its mission to track the mysterious interference to its source.
00:12:59By accurate readings taken at regular intervals, by stationary and mobile units,
00:13:07it was determined that the disturbance was moving in a northeasterly direction.
00:13:11By 1034, Mobile Center had pinpointed the disturbance at the edge of the Huntington oil fields.
00:13:21Units one and seven were instructed to close in.
00:13:25Hey, Charlie, do you see what I see?
00:13:35Yeah, the oil field.
00:13:37Let's hope our trouble's burning up.
00:13:39Well, there's only one way to find out.
00:13:41Look, Sarge, two murders and an explosion in one precinct is big news.
00:13:53Now, come on, you can't pin it all on the young border.
00:13:56Or can you?
00:13:58Very funny.
00:14:03Yeah?
00:14:03I'm Hazen of the communications commission.
00:14:06Oh, the lieutenant's waiting for you.
00:14:10Where's the wheel?
00:14:11You heard the man, communications commission.
00:14:14Sorry, just kind of interference happens very often.
00:14:18Never anything like this.
00:14:20It's on the move all the time.
00:14:21Means some harm with a transmitter in a car.
00:14:23It's not a transmitter.
00:14:25We don't get a definite disturbance.
00:14:27It's just a sense of appearance.
00:14:30Then you have no idea of what it is, huh?
00:14:33Not yet.
00:14:34How are you making up?
00:14:35Not so good.
00:14:37You were here when I questioned that boy about the murder at the beach.
00:14:40You got anything more out of it?
00:14:42Yeah.
00:14:43Come on with me.
00:14:44You might want to see this.
00:14:51Ah, I see you're just about done.
00:14:53Thanks, you can go now.
00:14:54Are you sure this is what the man looks like?
00:15:02What do you say, Betty?
00:15:05Well, just about.
00:15:06Only I think the tubes were a little lower down.
00:15:08And you still insist there was no head inside the helmet.
00:15:10I'm positive there wasn't.
00:15:12What about you?
00:15:14Well, it was dark.
00:15:15I couldn't swear to it.
00:15:16Thanks.
00:15:17That'll be all.
00:15:18You mean we can go now?
00:15:20Yeah, for the time being.
00:15:21Just stick close to home.
00:15:22I may want to see you again tomorrow.
00:15:24We'll be there.
00:15:25Come on, Betty.
00:15:26Kind of changed your mind about those two, haven't you?
00:15:29Yeah, I guess I have.
00:15:30Hey, we'll bring in the old man, will you?
00:15:31Don't tell me you believe this story about this, this whatever it is.
00:15:37I know, it sounds as phony as it ever did.
00:15:40But, oh, sit down, will you please?
00:15:42You're the, uh, watchman at the Huntington Oilfields?
00:15:45Oh, yes, sir.
00:15:45I've been with the company for over 22 years, sir.
00:15:47Yeah.
00:15:48Will you tell Mr. Hazen here exactly what happened?
00:15:51Well, sir, like I said before, I was just closing the gate for the night when I saw this fellow coming up.
00:15:56I was never so scared in my life.
00:15:58Yes, go on.
00:15:59Well, it wasn't the man so much as the suit he was wearing.
00:16:03Well, he wouldn't stop when I hollered at him.
00:16:05He just pushed his way right in there through the gate and walked right up to the tank.
00:16:09You carry a gun?
00:16:10Did you try to stop him?
00:16:11Oh, well, it was much to close the tank.
00:16:14I was afraid to shoot.
00:16:15So I thought I might call for help.
00:16:17Just I got to the shack, the tank blew up.
00:16:21Oh, you should see the shack.
00:16:22Yeah, I thought, uh, sir, can you give us a description of this man?
00:16:25How would you say he was dressed?
00:16:27Well, sir, like I said before, he wore a sort of, uh, a sort of pliers, uh, not outfit, with a helmet attached to it.
00:16:35How tall was he?
00:16:36Oh, he was a giant of a man.
00:16:39And he had tubes sticking out of that thingy, that helmet he wore.
00:16:43Uh, can you tell us what his face looked like?
00:16:44Huh?
00:16:46Oh, sir, though you got pretty close to me, I could swear the man had no face.
00:16:52Now, if you saw this man again, would you recognize him?
00:16:55I mean by his outfit.
00:16:56Oh, I'll never forget that sight if I live to be a hundred, sir.
00:17:00Would you say this is the man?
00:17:03Wait, sure, that's him.
00:17:05Thank you very much.
00:17:06You may go now.
00:17:07All right, sir.
00:17:09Well, Hazen, what do you say now?
00:17:15Beats me.
00:17:16The descriptions check, all right.
00:17:18This could be some kind of flying suit.
00:17:20High altitude equipment.
00:17:22Yeah, that's what I've been thinking.
00:17:23Well, how do you explain that stuff about the missing head?
00:17:25Nah, we can discount that.
00:17:27These people were frightened.
00:17:29It was night.
00:17:30Nobody really took a close look at him.
00:17:31I guess you're right.
00:17:32But whoever he is, that outfit doesn't look like one of ours.
00:17:35Of course.
00:17:36He could have been dropped by parachute.
00:17:39You mean sabotage him?
00:17:41I think we'd better wire a report to Washington, see what they say.
00:17:44Yeah, you can use our teletype.
00:17:46I'll tip off the only place to be pleased to be on the lookout for something unusual.
00:17:50Hey, wait a minute.
00:17:51What about the press?
00:17:51Oh, I don't think they know too much now.
00:17:53You better keep it that way for a while at least,
00:17:55till we find out whether our friends are still around here.
00:17:57Well, if he is, I think we can find him for you.
00:18:00My hunch is that he's carrying something around that's causing all this disturbance,
00:18:04whether he knows it or not.
00:18:09Yeah, kill that page one lead.
00:18:14They let the boarder and the girl go.
00:18:16Hmm?
00:18:17How do I know?
00:18:18Maybe the lieutenant thinks that the guy in a flying suit knocked off the husband.
00:18:22Mm-hmm.
00:18:23Nah.
00:18:24No, no, not a chance.
00:18:25Not a chance of an exclusive on that picture.
00:18:27They're making a blanket release in the morning.
00:18:30Hmm?
00:18:31Oh, there's a guy from the communications commission in there now.
00:18:34Hey, I'll call you back later if there's anything new.
00:18:36Okay.
00:18:42Come in.
00:18:44Sorry to interrupt you, lieutenant.
00:18:45Yo, what is it, Jim?
00:18:46There's a teletype cam for you.
00:18:47Oh, thanks, Jim.
00:18:48We're waiting for it.
00:18:49That was fast.
00:18:53Well, here's our answer.
00:18:54Looks like they never sleep in Washington.
00:18:57Says to contact a major Andrews,
00:18:59care of Dr. Wyatt,
00:19:00director of the Griffith Institute.
00:19:01Hey, it's kind of late.
00:19:04Then I'll give him a call.
00:19:05Well, you're at it.
00:19:06I'll go out the car and check in with Central.
00:19:07Okay.
00:19:16Well, that's a story up till now.
00:19:18We got in touch with Washington.
00:19:20They told us to contact you here.
00:19:23Hmm.
00:19:24Very interesting.
00:19:26What do you think, doctor?
00:19:27When I see something like this,
00:19:32I understand why your gentleman
00:19:33might have thought sabotage was involved.
00:19:36Lieutenant, are you sure there were no traces
00:19:38of this saboteur, this X-man,
00:19:41found after the explosion in the oil field?
00:19:44Fire to probably went over every inch of the area.
00:19:47Didn't come up with a thing.
00:19:49Well, then there's a strong possibility
00:19:51that he might have perished in the explosion itself.
00:19:53Well, I doubt that.
00:19:55We're pretty well convinced
00:19:56this man is carrying something
00:19:58that's responsible for all the signal interference.
00:20:02According to the last report I got,
00:20:05there was a definite disturbance
00:20:06about three miles east of the oil fields,
00:20:09sometime after the explosion.
00:20:11Well, then if he's alive,
00:20:13you should be able to keep an accurate check
00:20:14of his whereabouts.
00:20:15Not that easy.
00:20:16Matter of fact, we lost contact
00:20:17about three quarters of an hour ago.
00:20:19Maybe he realized you were trailing him
00:20:21and got rid of whatever he had
00:20:22that was causing the disturbance.
00:20:24In that case, there's nothing much
00:20:25my department can do to help you.
00:20:28I guess it's up to us.
00:20:30Unless you have some suggestions.
00:20:32Well, let me think out loud for a minute.
00:20:35It might just be that
00:20:36what we've been talking about so far,
00:20:38and this phantom, as we'll call him,
00:20:41ties in with what the doctor and I have been discussing.
00:20:43That is very possible.
00:20:46I don't know whether you know it or not,
00:20:48but somewhere around 7.30 this evening,
00:20:51our radar networks picked up
00:20:53an unidentified object
00:20:54off Point Barrow, Alaska.
00:20:56They traced it clear down to Santa Monica
00:20:58before they lost it.
00:21:00Santa Monica?
00:21:02That's where we first picked up
00:21:03our radio interference.
00:21:04Yeah, right at the scene of the murder.
00:21:07Well, then, if all these things tally up,
00:21:09we've got some idea
00:21:10of how our man got here.
00:21:11You mean that he came in some plane?
00:21:13In that case, somebody would have seen it land
00:21:15and take off again, or did it crash?
00:21:18No.
00:21:19No, we don't think it was a plane.
00:21:22No rocket or jet that has been built so far
00:21:24can attain the speeds of 5,000 miles an hour,
00:21:28particularly for such a great distance.
00:21:30And maybe we're on the wrong track altogether.
00:21:33Couldn't your unidentified object have been a meteor?
00:21:36They travel at a terrific speed.
00:21:38Yes, fast enough for most of them
00:21:40to burn themselves out
00:21:41the moment they hit the Earth's atmosphere.
00:21:45And did it occur to you
00:21:47that meteors are not very likely
00:21:49to travel horizontally
00:21:50all the way from the North Pole to California?
00:21:54Well, if it wasn't a meteor,
00:21:56a flying missile of some type,
00:21:59how do you figure this phantom tide in?
00:22:01We're not sure that he does.
00:22:04I don't care what you say,
00:22:06but it doesn't make sense to me.
00:22:07Anybody trained in sabotaging stay on the cover?
00:22:12This guy's walking around in a monkey suit,
00:22:15killing people.
00:22:19Excuse me, Dr. Wyatt.
00:22:21Is there a Lieutenant Bowers in here?
00:22:22Oh, yes. What is it, miss?
00:22:24There's a Mr. Wakeman from the Chronicle
00:22:26here to see you.
00:22:27Wakeman here?
00:22:28What does he want?
00:22:30Well, there's only one way to find out.
00:22:32Before you go, Lieutenant,
00:22:33I don't believe you have met my assistant,
00:22:35Barbara Randall.
00:22:37Well, hello.
00:22:38Hello.
00:22:41It's Mrs. Randall, Lieutenant.
00:22:44I'll be right back.
00:22:46Barbara, you know the Major?
00:22:48Of course.
00:22:49And this is Mr.
00:22:49The Communications Commissioner.
00:22:51How do you do?
00:22:52Well, I see you're working a little later tonight
00:22:54than usual.
00:22:55Yes, my husband's teaching a late class,
00:22:57and he won't be able to pick me up for a while.
00:22:59Besides, I had some work to do in the lab.
00:23:01Well, at least you'll have lots of company.
00:23:03All right.
00:23:05So I shouldn't have come up here.
00:23:07But I've got to get your angle on this beach murder.
00:23:09And your whole department is shut up.
00:23:10Look, Wakeman, will you stop bothering me?
00:23:13There's nothing to say.
00:23:15If you've got an exclusive story
00:23:16from that Evans, Damon, or Bora,
00:23:17then you know as much as I do.
00:23:19Yeah, but that still doesn't explain anything
00:23:21about the guy without a head.
00:23:23Come on.
00:23:23Who is it?
00:23:25Your guess is as good as mine.
00:23:28You mean you let those two kids go
00:23:30without knowing that?
00:23:32I don't buy it.
00:23:33Well, I did.
00:23:35Well, then you must have an awful good reason.
00:23:39I bet you're trying to tie it in
00:23:40with that other murder.
00:23:43All right, Lieutenant.
00:23:45Don't tell me.
00:23:47I'll get my story somehow.
00:23:49Oh, if you want to know how things turn out,
00:23:53read the Chronicle in the morning.
00:23:56That's right.
00:23:58Now get in touch with Charlie and Mobile One
00:24:00and have them call for me here.
00:24:02Okay, honey.
00:24:03Well, did you come up with anything?
00:24:05No, they're just briefing Barbara here.
00:24:07It's just amazing the way you've been able
00:24:09to put these things together.
00:24:11Don't kid yourself, Mrs. Randall.
00:24:14It seems the press knows as much about it as we do.
00:24:16Well, let's hope they don't come to the same conclusions.
00:24:20A few lurid headlines and every fool in the country
00:24:22will be seeing phantoms in space suits
00:24:24and men from Mars all over the place.
00:24:27Yes, I can imagine.
00:24:28And mass hysteria is difficult to check
00:24:30once it gets started.
00:24:31That's why we've got to move fast.
00:24:34Well, from the looks of things,
00:24:35I guess it's up to me.
00:24:36I'll be in touch with you as soon as I hear it.
00:24:40See you.
00:24:41By 12.30 a.m.,
00:24:43the dragnet was in operation.
00:24:45Mobile units patrolled the streets and countryside.
00:24:49They covered an area 35 miles square.
00:24:53Special and sensitive equipment was prepared for action.
00:24:56Everyone on the job was ready to move
00:24:59on the first signal from the Communications Commission.
00:25:04Monitor Corona to Mobile Center, strength four.
00:25:08Brickyard at 160th, moving toward oil fields.
00:25:12Contact your units.
00:25:14Over and out.
00:25:16Units one and seven from Mobile Center.
00:25:18Units one and seven from Mobile Center.
00:25:21Strength four, interference at 160th in the oil field.
00:25:24Moving to east.
00:25:26Close in.
00:25:27Repeating.
00:25:28Strength four, interference at 160th in the oil field.
00:25:31Close in.
00:25:54See you're here, Joe.
00:25:59Just got here, trying to set this up.
00:26:01What gives, Jason?
00:26:02It's in this area, all right.
00:26:03I thought it was a guy you got it.
00:26:04Thank you, Doctor.
00:26:05Quite a walk over those oil fields.
00:26:07Well, it doesn't register as far as the oil fields.
00:26:09I think we'll do better if we split up.
00:26:10Right, Lieutenant.
00:26:11You two go that way, Lieutenant, out here.
00:26:13Vince, Joe, you follow him.
00:26:14Come on, Doctor.
00:26:15And you?
00:26:15Oh, forget it.
00:26:16Hey, Nathan, look at this.
00:26:38Yeah, point's this way.
00:26:41Hey, Joe.
00:26:43Joe.
00:26:43Joe.
00:26:43Hey, Hazen, 603.
00:27:04Going strong.
00:27:06That's it, Doctor.
00:27:13It's leading this way.
00:27:24Come on.
00:27:25Come on.
00:27:25It's this way.
00:27:53Come on.
00:27:53They're going strong.
00:28:23Check's with me.
00:28:27Sure does.
00:28:28He's here.
00:28:29We saw him.
00:28:30There he goes.
00:28:32Come on.
00:28:37Where is it?
00:28:39It's probably around here somewhere.
00:28:41Yeah, we got to get on the roof.
00:28:42Let's go get a lot.
00:28:43Let's go.
00:28:47Let's cut him off.
00:28:48Come on.
00:28:48They're right under here.
00:28:49Anybody see him?
00:28:58Anybody see him?
00:29:01There he is.
00:29:02He doesn't.
00:29:04We're out there.
00:29:16He doesn't.
00:29:21We'll give you 10 seconds of command.
00:29:22We're starting now.
00:29:231, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
00:29:34We're going in.
00:29:35Help you guys cover the door.
00:29:48Hi, there's nobody in here.
00:29:49Impossible.
00:29:50We saw him come in.
00:29:51Maybe he went out of the window.
00:29:52We won't get very far.
00:29:54Don't touch anything until we check for fingerprints.
00:29:56Well, doctor, over here.
00:29:58He left his suit and his helmet.
00:30:00Hey, let's spread that thing out so we can get a good shot of it.
00:30:02Give it away, you fool.
00:30:03What's the matter?
00:30:04For your information, that's a Geiger counter and it says hands off.
00:30:07I think you'd better wait outside.
00:30:09I just have a job to do.
00:30:10So do we.
00:30:11And I'm afraid I'll have to come first.
00:30:13There's no radiation from the helmet.
00:30:15But look at this.
00:30:19So that's what's been causing all this trouble.
00:30:21Charlie, you know where we can pick up a lead-lined box in a hurry?
00:30:25Well, Mobile 7 should have one right outside.
00:30:27I'll take a look.
00:30:28Hurry it up, will you?
00:30:29Unbelievable.
00:30:29Now, we all thought that this phantom might be carrying some device.
00:30:33It was causing all the signal interference.
00:30:35But to learn that it's due to the very close on his body.
00:30:39That's not the only thing that bothers me.
00:30:41Did any of you get a good look at his face?
00:30:43Not me.
00:30:43He's too far away.
00:30:44Well, I did.
00:30:46Unless I'm mistaken, that helmet was empty.
00:30:48Hey, where am I going to put this stuff?
00:30:50Oh, put it to Dr. Wyatt's station room.
00:30:52Yeah, we'll take it back to the Institute.
00:30:53Right.
00:30:55Pardon me?
00:30:56No.
00:30:57No, that's all right.
00:30:58You can't handle that.
00:30:59Any luck?
00:31:15Not a sign of him.
00:31:16The boys are still searching the grounds.
00:31:18For what?
00:31:19Nobody knows what he looks like without that outfit.
00:31:21Well, Bellahe, Major.
00:31:22The reporter got a flash picture of him.
00:31:24I just happened to borrow that film.
00:31:26Todd's way to headquarters right now to be developed.
00:31:28Good.
00:31:28Send us a present as soon as you can.
00:31:29Sure.
00:31:30Lieutenant, are you sure you don't want to come with us?
00:31:32We want to make a few tests at the lab.
00:31:34I'd like to, Doctor.
00:31:36But you know the situation.
00:31:37I've got to get that guy.
00:31:38Let me know how you make out, will you?
00:31:39Yeah, we'll do that.
00:31:40Sure.
00:31:58I'd like to see if we can.
00:31:59Yes, sir.
00:32:00Let's go.
00:32:00Bye for now.
00:32:00Bye for now.
00:32:01Oh, my God.
00:32:31Good evening, Doctor. We were just on our way home and we saw you drive in.
00:32:51Good evening, Barbara. Hello, Bill. I see we've got to you just in time.
00:32:54Anything new?
00:32:56Lots of excitement, but that's all. Major, you know Barbara's husband?
00:32:59Oh, of course. How are you?
00:33:01How are you?
00:33:01Yeah, it's a nice-looking dog you've got there. What's his name? His name? Venus.
00:33:07Say, Bill, I hate to ask this, but something important has come up and I wonder,
00:33:12can we borrow Barbara for about an hour or so?
00:33:15I suppose so.
00:33:16Of course. Darling, why don't you go and do the shopping?
00:33:20Here's the list. The market's open all evening.
00:33:22I may as well. See you later, darling.
00:33:27I'll take the dog and tie her up.
00:33:29Thank you, Bill. Good night. Good night.
00:33:31I'll give you a hand with it.
00:33:33Oh, thanks, Doc. Easy now. Look out for your fingers.
00:33:36All right.
00:33:38All right.
00:33:40Look out, now don't drop it.
00:33:43Bill, come back here.
00:33:44Bill, come back here.
00:33:45There's no one in there. Come on. Come back here.
00:34:07Dina, look back here.
00:34:09Look at that.
00:34:11There's no one in there. Come on.
00:34:14Hey, Venus. Look, there's no one in here.
00:34:19Come on, girl.
00:34:21You know you're not allowed in here.
00:34:25Venus might set me quiet.
00:34:27Come on, girl.
00:34:39Now, you stay right here, Venus.
00:34:41Now, I don't want to hear one sound out of you.
00:34:44You were right, Doctor.
00:34:51There are no fingerprints anywhere.
00:34:53What's all this?
00:34:54Hey, don't touch anything.
00:34:56You'd better put some gloves on.
00:34:57Our friend, Mr. X, left this suit at the oil refinery.
00:35:01You mean you were that close to him and you didn't catch him?
00:35:03I'm afraid so.
00:35:05That's up to the police now.
00:35:06Hand me those sheds.
00:35:07I want to cut that piece of this material to work with it.
00:35:18Say, you better have those sharpened.
00:35:20But I just bought them.
00:35:22Well, then.
00:35:23Here, try this knife.
00:35:30That still won't cut.
00:35:31Let me try.
00:35:32This stuff is tougher than nylon.
00:35:43Why don't I try it over a Bunsen burner?
00:35:44It doesn't burn, either.
00:35:59Let's take a look at it under the microscope.
00:36:01Look, it's magnetic.
00:36:04Magnetic?
00:36:07You're...
00:36:08Radioactive.
00:36:09But apparently indestructible.
00:36:10Indestructible.
00:36:27What's the matter?
00:36:29You tell me.
00:36:31Take a look at that weed.
00:36:37What weed?
00:36:39There is none.
00:36:40This material is one solid mass.
00:36:45Mass yet.
00:36:51Well, you're right.
00:36:52It must be some sort of plastic.
00:36:55No.
00:36:56I'd say it's a metallic substance of some kind.
00:36:58Well, I've seen a lot of interesting alloys, but never anything like this.
00:37:02Let's try an acid test.
00:37:03All right.
00:37:04Go ahead.
00:37:08Careful now.
00:37:09We'll only take a drop or two.
00:37:12It repels acid like a raincoat repels water.
00:37:16Why, there's no reaction.
00:37:21Well, Major, this looks as though we were going to be here for a long time.
00:37:25Now we have it.
00:37:38The helmet is not radioactive.
00:37:40The suit is.
00:37:44There is no doubt.
00:37:46This spacesuit is conditioned to function above 63,000 feet.
00:37:50The human blood would boil, resulting in the body expanding to twice its size.
00:37:55And death, of course.
00:37:56I know.
00:37:59And it must withstand pressure and counterpressure.
00:38:02Also, it must be so supercharged it can function in thin atmosphere.
00:38:06Now, let's see what it is that is left in its breathing apparatus.
00:38:09Well, how are you doing?
00:38:10The gas from the helmet tank breaks down to 11% methane.
00:38:16Ordinary marsh gas?
00:38:17What's the rest of the formula?
00:38:18No, that's where I'm stuck.
00:38:20I can't figure it out.
00:38:21It just doesn't respond to any of the usual tests.
00:38:24Well, how could anyone exist on that combination of gases?
00:38:27You and I couldn't, but apparently someone can.
00:38:32Doctor, are you trying to say that our X-Man doesn't breathe oxygen
00:38:36and hasn't the metabolism of a normal human?
00:38:40I really don't know.
00:38:42From what we've seen,
00:38:45he has some visitor characteristics which make him appear human.
00:38:49But added to them is this fabulous radioactivity that none of us could stand.
00:38:53I am present.
00:38:58I think the answer lies right here in this helmet.
00:39:25Obviously, he needs it to survive.
00:39:27Otherwise, he wouldn't have risked wearing it where he was sure to be recognized.
00:39:30As it is, he only took it off when he was cornered.
00:39:33Well, if what you say is true, how can he exist without it now?
00:39:36Let me put it this way.
00:39:38It's like a patient in an iron lung.
00:39:40Sometimes one can be removed for hours at a time without any ill effects.
00:39:43Exactly.
00:39:44And I think the same principle applies here.
00:39:46And that means sooner or later,
00:39:48he has to get his breathing apparatus back or die.
00:39:51I don't understand.
00:39:53Well, I've got an idea.
00:39:54If we were to return this whole outfit to where he left it,
00:39:59he might be tempted to come back.
00:40:05Dr. Wyatt speaking.
00:40:06Yes, he's here.
00:40:08No, thank you.
00:40:09Hello, Major.
00:40:10Still at it, huh?
00:40:13Mm-hmm.
00:40:15No, we haven't got a thing, no.
00:40:17The picture?
00:40:21Yeah, hold on.
00:40:22He says the picture the reporter took of our man didn't come out.
00:40:25I was afraid of something like that.
00:40:27The radio activity must have burned the emulsion.
00:40:29Hello.
00:40:31No.
00:40:32No, we didn't find any fingerprints at all in his clothes.
00:40:35Did you find any?
00:40:38Not too bad.
00:40:40Hello.
00:40:42Will you wait there, please?
00:40:44We don't know what to make of this either.
00:40:46Have you heard from the communication boys yet?
00:40:49Well, let's hope they turn up with something.
00:40:51Major, excuse me.
00:40:53Hold on a second.
00:40:53Yes.
00:40:54It's Mr. Waitman of the Chronicle.
00:40:55He insists upon seeing you.
00:40:56He does?
00:40:57Where is he?
00:40:58I told him to wait in the lobby.
00:40:59Good.
00:41:00Hello?
00:41:01Yes, our friend from the press is here.
00:41:03Don't worry.
00:41:12I wouldn't dare let anyone in on anything.
00:41:14At least not until we get something concrete.
00:41:17Right.
00:41:18All right.
00:41:18I'll see you later.
00:41:21Well, I guess I'd better see this newspaper man.
00:41:23Want to come along, Doctor?
00:41:25I think I will.
00:41:25Let's go.
00:41:34Oh.
00:41:35Hello.
00:41:36Remember me?
00:41:37Certainly, yes.
00:41:38A nice lot of gadgets you got here.
00:41:40We think so.
00:41:41What's on your mind?
00:41:42Well, I was wondering if you might let me take a couple of pictures of that suit you brought up here.
00:41:45I'm sorry.
00:41:46We can't do that.
00:41:47Oh.
00:41:48Well, now, look.
00:41:49I got a wonderful picture of the guy running in the shack, and the lieutenant stuck his nose in my business, and what do I get?
00:41:54A blank.
00:41:55Is that you, Doctor?
00:42:12Well, you must have some lead on this guy, otherwise you wouldn't have brought that suit up here.
00:42:39Well, let's just say we were curious.
00:42:40Hello, Bill.
00:42:54Are back so soon?
00:42:55Isn't Barbara through?
00:42:56I don't know.
00:42:58Well, she's still in the lab.
00:42:59Why don't you go up and see?
00:43:00Thanks, I will.
00:43:08Barbara?
00:43:10Barbara, are you in there?
00:43:12Bill, listen to me.
00:43:14I'm not alone.
00:43:15Someone is in here with me.
00:43:18I can't see him.
00:43:20He locked the door and has the key.
00:43:23I'll break the door down.
00:43:24No, Bill, don't, please.
00:43:26You better get help.
00:43:28You mean I've come all the way up here for nothing?
00:43:30I'm afraid so.
00:43:32Good night.
00:43:32Yes, good night, Mr. Wakeman.
00:43:35Good night.
00:43:46Major, come quick.
00:43:47What's the matter?
00:43:48What's the matter?
00:43:48Where's Barbara?
00:43:49In the lab.
00:43:49The door's locked and there's someone in there with her.
00:44:00I thought you said the door was locked.
00:44:01It was.
00:44:02She's gone.
00:44:03Oh, cover the main entrance.
00:44:04That's the only way anybody could leave.
00:44:06I will.
00:44:06Well, in that case, we would have seen her on our way up.
00:44:08Then she must still be in the building.
00:44:09We'd better split up.
00:44:10I'll take the roof.
00:44:13Barbara!
00:44:15Barbara!
00:44:15Barbara!
00:44:16Barbara!
00:44:16Barbara!
00:44:24Barbara!
00:44:24Barbara!
00:44:25Where are you?
00:44:26Barbara!
00:44:27Marker!
00:44:45Marker!
00:44:47Marker!
00:44:50Marker!
00:44:52Marker!
00:44:55Where are you?
00:44:58Barbara!
00:45:01Barbara!
00:45:04Barbara!
00:45:05Where are you?
00:45:08Barbara!
00:45:16Any sign of her?
00:45:17Not yet.
00:45:19She must be around here someplace.
00:45:21Now you stay here and watch the main entrance.
00:45:23And I'll check the basement.
00:45:24All right.
00:45:27You're many hawks.
00:45:43I'm sorry.
00:45:45I'm sorry, Mary.
00:45:47Mal.
00:45:48she's not up there where's the doctor he went down to the basement here he comes
00:46:14you didn't find her no I better call the police but there's no telling what could happen to her in
00:46:21the meantime now now take it easy we're doing the best we can but she said she was locked in
00:46:26and she couldn't see who did it can you explain that no not yet
00:46:44who are you
00:46:54don't come near me
00:47:00I'm warning you don't come near me
00:47:03don't
00:47:12the code I don't understand
00:47:27you're trying to tell me you needed to breathe and there isn't much left in the tank
00:47:33one one two one one two three
00:47:40I'll write it down
00:47:46one one two one one two three
00:48:03in the lab
00:48:16no please don't
00:48:32she's in there
00:48:36I think so I'm looking for it I just saw him so he must be in here
00:48:43I'm
00:48:48I'm looking for it I just saw him so he must be in here
00:48:50I'm
00:49:02steady feet to the ground he would be killed
00:49:09I couldn't see him I I didn't know what to do
00:49:24come here quick
00:49:31oh it's disintegrating
00:49:33this is amazing
00:49:39I'm
00:49:46I'm
00:49:48I'm
00:49:49I'm
00:49:50I'm
00:49:51I'm
00:49:52I'm
00:49:53I'm
00:49:54I'm
00:50:05I'm
00:50:06I'm
00:50:06Oh
00:50:21Mobile center from over one come in, please. This is mobile center. Go ahead
00:50:26Get hold of Major Andrews or dr. Wyatt at the Institute. I want to talk to either one of them. I will do stand by mobile one
00:50:37Dr. Wyatt speaking. Oh, yes, mr. Hazen
00:50:42Yes, we still at it
00:50:44Lots and lots of excitement, but nothing definite yet. Have you anything to say?
00:50:53The trouble seems to be just about gone
00:50:55We got a flash in the direction of the observatory once in a while, but I figure that's because of the outfit you're testing
00:51:01Yes, they're dead bars ought to be here in a minute
00:51:09Of course, how long will it take you to get up here good? See you then
00:51:14Thank you gentlemen put it down here, please Barbara in that port in over there
00:51:25Now you're going to see I have to resort to ultraviolet light in order to show you what little there is left of the spacesuit
00:51:32As you can see it has used itself to this liquid and it is in an evaporating stage
00:51:44The helmet is in the lab and still intact
00:51:47This is amazing all the radiation in this suit would why'd be fatal to a normal human being wearing it of course and furthermore
00:52:06Our respiratory system could never simulate gases such as we have found with that breathing device
00:52:12Well, then we have to assume our so-called x-man carried his own atmosphere with him
00:52:17Excuse me
00:52:18But as a matter of curiosity
00:52:21Why do we refer to this thing as a hymn? I?
00:52:24Thought it was invisible under normal conditions. Yes, yet
00:52:30Mrs. Randall did see the imprint of a large foot and the masculine hand under ultraviolet light
00:52:37Are you explaining that I don't know
00:52:40No, but the human body is composed of various elements with a carbon base
00:52:46Like coal
00:52:48Yes
00:52:49Now suppose we maintain the same chemical composition in the body of the x-man, but substitutes silica for carbon
00:52:57Silica, that's glass
00:52:59Exactly
00:53:00Now it is possible that the body with such a base if it were subjected to an atmosphere foreign to its origin
00:53:07Might appear invisible to our eyes
00:53:11Are you trying to say doctor that we're we're not dealing with a human being I?
00:53:17Didn't say that
00:53:20On the contrary
00:53:22All the evidence points in the opposite direction
00:53:26Toward a superhuman with an intelligence far superior to our own
00:53:30How can you tell first of all mrs. Randall saw that he has a hand?
00:53:35With digits like our own fingers and a thumb
00:53:40Opposing that alone is a sign of intelligence and he comes from a civilization
00:53:45That has developed adequate space transportation
00:53:49To enable him to travel to earth
00:53:52We have nothing yet
00:53:54That can reach even another planet in our own solar system
00:53:58That could account for the unidentified objects picked up by radar a few hours ago
00:54:00That could account for the unidentified objects picked up by radar a few hours ago
00:54:02My theory is that the spaceship or whatever it was that he came in
00:54:08Operated under principle of magnetic rather than atomic proportion and that somewhere in the outer limits met with the condition
00:54:16Where the earth's gravity pulled it down and it fell into the ocean and that he managed to save his life and reach shore
00:54:29You really can pick up any type of communications interference no matter how weak the signal may be
00:54:35Sure thing we were on his trail from the minute he left the beach
00:54:39I never knew you carried such sensitive instruments in your car
00:54:46What you told us is very interesting doctor
00:54:49But I've got to make an official report to headquarters
00:54:52Are you willing to be quoted that the criminal we're after is a creature from another world?
00:54:57All I can say is
00:54:59We know that our earth is not the only planet capable of sustaining life in one form or another
00:55:05You can quote that
00:55:07All I've got to go by is some footprints in a hand
00:55:11That isn't much
00:55:12No fingerprints, no description, no nothing
00:55:16And we're after a killer
00:55:18Has it occurred to you that our ex-man has no apparent motivation for his acts?
00:55:23And might therefore not be an intentional criminal at all?
00:55:25You have a point there
00:55:27Hey, wait a minute
00:55:29Come to think of it
00:55:30The young border we suspected he did say that the girl's husband threw the first punch
00:55:34So?
00:55:35So that could have been enough to provoke the strange creature
00:55:37And the same could have happened at the second murder
00:55:39Sure
00:55:41What about the fire in the oil fields?
00:55:43Evidently our man sensed the presence of some gases
00:55:47Which he thought might be utilized in his breathing apparatus
00:55:50Yeah, that could account for his presence at the oil refineries
00:55:52Where something went wrong causing the explosion
00:55:55Too bad he got wise to us and took off his uniform
00:55:58Or we'd have been able to catch up with him by now
00:56:00No, he didn't utter a word
00:56:12But I'm convinced he was trying to convey a message to me
00:56:15He kept tapping out a code
00:56:17I wrote it down
00:56:19Let me see that, please
00:56:21Doesn't make sense
00:56:23Well, it may be based on some mathematical system we know nothing about
00:56:28But he was trying to tell us something
00:56:31Why did he run away?
00:56:53What do you think of that?
00:56:58Hell
00:56:59Hazen must be crazy sending out stuff like that
00:57:01I guess so
00:57:02Let's try and get a hold of him
00:57:04Yeah
00:57:05Mobile One from Mobile Center, come in, please
00:57:08Mobile One from Mobile Center, come in, please
00:57:12Mobile One from Mobile Center, come in, please
00:57:15Hey, that's Central calling
00:57:18You better stay here by the car, I'll go tell Hazen
00:57:31Yes, Colonel Powell
00:57:33Of course, I'll mail you a complete report first thing in the morning
00:57:36Yes, sir, thank you
00:57:38Oh, and I'm awfully sorry to disturb you so late at night
00:57:42Right, good night, sir
00:57:44He's around here, this invisible guy, he was in the car
00:57:47How do you know?
00:57:49I was talking to Randall outside
00:57:51When I heard Central calling
00:57:52Before I could get over to answer
00:57:54I saw the door open and shut by itself
00:57:56He's desperate
00:57:58For all we know, he could be trying to send a distress signal to his home base
00:58:01Wherever that is
00:58:02Well, that's what we doesn't get through
00:58:04We've got enough problems with just one of those guys
00:58:06Well, at least we know he's surrounded the vicinity
00:58:08And it's obvious what keeps him around
00:58:10Of course, he's got to come back for what little gas there is left in his helmet
00:58:14And when he does
00:58:15Oh, please, the most important thing is to take him alive
00:58:20If we can only make each other understand
00:58:22There's no telling how much science can profit
00:58:24I'll go along with that, Doctor
00:58:26I've got to make sure that once he's cornered
00:58:28I'll be able to hang on to him
00:58:30I think we're all agreed on that
00:58:32All right, good, then we must see it from his angle
00:58:34He's in an alien world
00:58:36No doubt we are as frightening to him as he is to us
00:58:38Now, the most important thing, then, is to keep calm at all costs
00:58:41I do nothing to provoke him
00:58:44Immediately, a simple plan to trap the Phantom went into operation
00:58:49All obstacles to his entry were removed
00:58:53To erase any possible suspicion
00:58:56The doors were left unguarded
00:58:58And inconspicuous electric eye equipment was set up
00:59:01All this was connected to a makeshift control board
00:59:06Which would immediately signal the exact location of the trespasser
00:59:10Now, there was nothing to do but wait
00:59:13The one road leading to the Institute was blocked off to make certain no outsider would upset the plans
00:59:21Or interfere in any way
00:59:23What's the big idea?
00:59:25Sorry, nobody's allowed through here
00:59:27Who says so?
00:59:28Lieutenant Bowers orders
00:59:30Oh, is he up there?
00:59:31He might be
00:59:32Well, you get word to him that Joe Wakeman of the Chronicle is here
00:59:35Sorry, bud, I can't leave
00:59:37Oh, what about them over there?
00:59:39Hey, you over there
00:59:40Me?
00:59:41Yeah, aren't you the guy from the communications outfit?
00:59:44Didn't I see you down at the oil fields a couple hours ago?
00:59:47What of it?
00:59:48You got anything to do with this?
00:59:49Well, you'll have to ask Lieutenant Bowers about that
00:59:53How can I if he won't see me?
00:59:55That's a good question
01:00:14Well, it's quarter to four
01:00:16Sure taking his time
01:00:18Time is cheap
01:00:20Yeah, well, how long can you sit on the edge of your chair like this?
01:00:23More here if we have to
01:00:25I only hope this mechanism works
01:00:28It will unless he flies in between the wires
01:00:31I wouldn't take any buts that he can't
01:00:33Well, if everything else fails
01:00:36We still have Venus here to help us
01:00:38You know, I'm certain she sensed his presence before
01:00:40That's why she carried on so
01:00:41I don't so
01:00:53What's the matter, Lieutenant? Is this thing getting you?
01:00:56Oh, no, no, I...
01:00:58I'm just thinking about public reaction to all this
01:01:01I'll give something to the press by morning
01:01:03You know, ever since I was a kid I wanted to be a pilot
01:01:21Then after I got my wings and had 75 missions I thought I'd seen everything
01:01:25Now after all this, I know I haven't seen anything
01:01:28He's here
01:01:30The back end looks
01:01:31Let's cut him off
01:01:32Yeah, but I'll take it easy
01:01:33Go ahead
01:01:34Go ahead
01:01:36Go ahead
01:01:46Callä»–
01:01:48Stop
01:01:50Come away
01:01:52Got him
01:01:54Got him
01:01:56Get up
01:01:58зи
01:02:01Got him
01:02:02This way.
01:02:06Help! Help!
01:02:10Help!
01:02:12Help!
01:02:14Help!
01:02:18Help!
01:02:22Let it out!
01:02:26Stop!
01:02:38Hey, what are you guys trying to do?
01:02:40Well, it's the reporter.
01:02:42Yeah, it sure is.
01:02:44What's going on around here? You guys crazy?
01:02:56How'd you get in here?
01:02:58Oh, I don't make any difference.
01:03:00Come on, what's up? What's going on?
01:03:12All right, Lieutenant, you better tell him.
01:03:14I'll reset the wires.
01:03:26Don't be afraid.
01:03:34We want you to live.
01:03:36Don't you understand?
01:03:38Can't you speak?
01:03:40Can't you say something, anything, in any language?
01:03:44Listen, everybody.
01:03:56He's in the lab with me now.
01:03:58He's in the lab with me now.
01:04:00Phoenix, be quiet.
01:04:04The door is unlocked.
01:04:06Hurry, he's having trouble breathing.
01:04:08I don't think he can last much longer.
01:04:12And please, don't let Venus get at him.
01:04:16And walk in quietly.
01:04:18Quiet, Venus.
01:04:28It's unbelievable.
01:04:36You see, there's nothing to be afraid of.
01:04:38Nobody wants to hurt you.
01:04:40I've tried to reason with it.
01:04:42I feel he understands, but he can't speak.
01:04:44Wait a minute, I'll try his code.
01:04:46I think I remember it right.
01:05:02Better plug in the ultraviolet light.
01:05:04I don't know.
01:05:10Oh, you scared her.
01:05:22No, there goes Venus.
01:05:24No, there goes Venus.
01:05:26No, there goes Venus.
01:05:28No, there goes Venus.
01:05:30All right,eschy.
01:05:32No, there goes Venus.
01:05:34No, there goes Venus.
01:05:36Yeah, here goes Venus.
01:05:38Theennis is beautiful.
01:05:39No, there goes Venus.
01:05:40Maidan Ricciosi.
01:05:41No, there goes Venus.
01:05:42Tietchan, the display.
01:05:43Yeah, there goes Venus.
01:05:44No.
01:05:45I'm sorry Venus.
01:05:47I swear cancer-penusive things.
01:05:49No, there goes Venus.
01:05:50No.
01:05:51Only Venus, miss Venus.
01:05:52He must be there.
01:06:11He's going to the river.
01:06:22He's going up the ladder.
01:06:32Take this.
01:06:33I'm going after him.
01:06:45That door.
01:06:48In here with a big telescope.
01:06:52Close the door.
01:07:02The switch is over there.
01:07:17You're not going to the wall.
01:07:18He's going to the road.
01:07:20I'm not going to the road.
01:07:21No sense of something.
01:07:23Quiet, Venus.
01:07:24Well, if he's in here you'll never get out now.
01:07:25No, Miss Carlos.
01:07:26This is what I've been waiting for.
01:07:27Please, Lieutenant.
01:07:28This is our last chance.
01:07:29We have to take him alive.
01:07:30Plug in the lamps.
01:07:31Please, Lieutenant, this is our last chance.
01:07:34We have to take him alive.
01:07:36Plug in the lamps.
01:07:37There's an outlet here.
01:07:47He must be up there.
01:07:48The whole body is gone.
01:08:02If I hadn't seen this with my own eyes, what do we do now?
01:08:06Stand back.
01:08:18Amazing.
01:08:23It's cold again.
01:08:25Look.
01:08:26He's trying to speak, but no sound is coming out of his mouth.
01:08:30Look at Venus.
01:08:31She acts as though she hears him.
01:08:33Yes.
01:08:35Dog can hear sounds that we can.
01:08:38His voice must be beyond the range of the human ear.
01:08:41Maybe he's screaming.
01:08:43He's suffocating.
01:08:52It's low.
01:08:53It's almost gone.
