Transcript
00:00Good morning, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers. Now this is always
00:07an exciting moment in the year and it seems to come around far too rapidly, but it's just about
00:12to be the fine art degree show for the University of Chichester students and lovely to speak to two
00:18of the latest students soon to be taking finals, soon to be graduating, Elliot and Elena. Now Elliot,
00:25you've had a great time in Chichester haven't you? It sounds like it's really lived up to what you were
00:30hoping for from the course, tell me more. Yeah it's been absolutely brilliant, I've thoroughly enjoyed
00:38all the people I've met, all the tutors that I've had the pleasure of being taught by and it's just
00:45been a great environment to learn in and to develop my artistic skills and my practice and what I make
00:52and yeah I would absolutely do it all over again and yeah very sad it's coming to the end but I'm
00:59very looking forward to putting on our art degree show, yeah. And Elena you would agree with that
01:03presumably, must have flashed. Absolutely, yeah it's been, it's gone so fast but I would absolutely do
01:10it all over again, I feel like it's been such a great experience for me. If you try and stand back
01:15Elena, what do you think, what do you think it's given you as an artist? I think it's definitely
01:23given me more confidence in my abilities and just sort of who I am as a person I think I was so shy
01:30to start with. Really? Now I feel like I've sort of come into my own, I'm more confident in my
01:35abilities and yeah I'm just leaving much happier and so happy that I've had this experience. Absolutely and
01:42Elena you've got potentially even bigger exciting adventure coming along now haven't you? You're
01:47about to embark on teacher training but pretty much doing it on the job, that's quite something. Yes,
01:53I'm very excited. What makes you want to teach? Why do you want to teach? I think you know my
02:02experience of being a shy child in an art class, I've always had such a special place in my heart for
02:08my art teachers because they were so loving and kind and just supportive and I've always thought
02:13you know I'd like to be that for someone else so you know I'm hoping that I qualify and I can be a nice
02:21welcoming art teacher. Good luck with that, it sounds a brilliant ambition to have and Elia,
02:26you're slightly less sure about what next aren't you? Yeah, I'd love to keep creating and making art
02:34um but probably in a smaller capacity to what I do now um as there won't be much space but um yeah
02:43I absolutely sort of the course has set me up to to know what it's like to uh aim for being a
02:50practicing artist um and yeah I'm really grateful for that. Fantastic, well good luck to both of you,
02:56not just in the degree show but in all that comes in in your careers. Thank you. Lovely to meet you,
03:03thanks. Lovely to speak to you, thank you so much. Thanks. Lovely to speak to you.
