00:00After three consecutive months of power rate hikes, Meralco is set to implement a rate reduction this May.
00:07The power distributor announced a decrease of 75 centavos per kilowatt hour,
00:12bringing the overall rate down from over 13 pesos to 12 pesos and 26 centavos per kilowatt hour.
00:20This means households consuming between 200 to 500 kilowatt hours can expect savings ranging from 150 pesos to 375 pesos on their electricity bills.
00:32Meralco explained that the decrease is due to several power plants resuming operations after undergoing maintenance or repairs.
00:40Improved electricity supply in the Luzon Creed also contributed to lower charges in the wholesale electricity spot market,
00:48along with the strengthening of the Philippine Peso against the U.S. dollar.
