00:00So, Mikey, can you tell me about the challenge you're going to be doing?
00:04I am aiming to drive 60 to 80 miles on a bike at the Mountbatten Data Centre.
00:1721st of May this year, I start at 2.30.
00:24And who are you raising money for?
00:27Headway.
00:27And tell me what Headway means to you.
00:33It is a charity that helps people like me after a head injury, brain injury.
00:45Okay, and are you happy to tell me a little bit about your injury and how you got here?
00:53I am an addict of crack cocaine and heroin.
01:03I used heroin last time on 20th February 2013.
01:13It was mixed with something that set at me.
01:18I was wounded in my sleep and left three days and gave myself hypoxic energy.
01:29Today, my friend Nick Branson, who is a druid, brought my foot back into my body.
01:41Luckily, I'm not here today, so I owe my life to him and to inspire others
01:56and to serve everyone for taking drugs.
02:05So, tell me how inspiring Mikey is to you all.
02:09Yeah, well, Mikey, I mean, ever since I met Mikey, a character he is,
02:14you know, I was working at a volunteering centre for bikes
02:19and he was so enthusiastic to get involved and help people fix the bikes
02:23and sharing his knowledge he had as a mechanic and to help people.
02:28And just, you know, getting to know Mikey over the last few months, you know,
02:32I've seen him grow so much from, like, you know, lifting car batteries
02:37to cycling on his personal made bike and then telling me now, you know,
02:42going to the gym four times a week, really pushing himself.
02:45And now he's telling me, you know, he's challenging himself to a 68-mile, 80-mile bike ride,
02:52which is bloody, extremely challenging and inspirational.
02:57So, you know, it's just, you know, for someone who's gone through such a traumatic injury,
03:01it's quite inspirational for him to be doing this
03:04and bringing awareness of his situation and what happened to him.
03:08So, I understand that your personal assistant is to Mikey.
03:13Yes, that's right.
03:14So, obviously, you help him out quite a lot.
03:16So, tell me, you know, on a day-to-day basis, you know, how hard it is, you know, day-to-day life
03:22and what you think about the challenge.
03:25Well, the challenge is obviously Mikey's condition and...
03:30Well, it's better now.
03:33There was a moment when the biggest challenge was that Mikey was quite upset, obviously,
03:37quite down with what happened.
03:39So, be next to the person who's, like, a bit upset and you don't know how to help.
03:44That was the challenge.
03:47But he's, like, on the other side, he's such a positive person.
03:50He's smiling so much.
03:52He's, like, he has so many reasons, actually, not to smile
03:55and he could do actually all opposite.
03:59But no, he's there.
04:00He will, you know, fall over.
04:02He will smile.
04:03Something bad happened to him.
04:05He will laugh.
04:05He's just basically, like, very, like, bright person.
04:12Yeah.
04:13Like you said, my mind already.
04:16It takes good out of everything.
04:21His smile and his happiness is contagious.
04:23And also allows us to realize that sometimes we keep complaining about things which doesn't
04:31really matter.
04:32So small things when we don't...
04:34I think sometimes we keep forgetting how lucky actually we are to be on this planet,
04:40to see the beauty of all the colors, to see different people, to actually be alive.
04:46It's like we're taking this one for granted.
04:48But my kids just reminds us that actually we are so, like, yeah, lucky with being able,
04:56be here and enjoy.
