08:43When the carrot's fully grown, it's ready to be dug up.

08:47Pippin, you're very good at digging, but you wear out your paws if you try to dig up all the carrots in this field.

09:03That's the job of two big machines.

09:06First, a machine called a carrot topper drives slowly through the field and cuts off the leaves.

09:21We don't want to eat those.

09:23Then a machine called a harvester digs up the carrots.

09:53The carrots are brought here to be sorted and packed.

10:03They're quite muddy because they've been in the ground.

10:06So the first thing they need is a wash.

10:12Then the fat carrots are sorted from the thin ones.

10:17The thin ones fall through the gaps.

10:23And the long carrots are sorted from the short ones.

10:29The short ones fall through the gap.

10:35They are sprayed with water to cool them down.

10:39That helps to keep them fresh.

10:44They have a lovely fresh, carrot-y smell.

10:53Now they're sorting the good carrots from the bad ones by looking for any which are damaged.
