But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

00:00so what does this say about israel's present condition israel after jesus has come and jesus
00:07says your house has left you desolate the temple was first spiritually then physically desolate
00:13and the jewish people were scattered throughout the nations jerusalem was trodden down of the
00:19gentiles dispersion to the nations in bondage to gentile kings there's now no king of the line of
00:25david and in fact no king of the line of david can come because the genealogical records have been
00:30destroyed and lost and there's no one who can prove that they are of the line of david
00:34there's no tribe of judah nor separate davidic family so israel is without king or prince in
00:45the dispersion and today even as israel's back in the land they don't have a king they have a prime
00:51minister and a president but they don't really qualify as the melech or even the saar according
00:56to scriptures they're not permanent but there's a time coming according to scripture when the king
01:01will come when the kingdom will be restored to israel jesus spoke about that in acts chapter one
01:08and he would restore the kingdom to israel and he would come as the king of kings and the king of
01:14israel so he's the one who has the right to be the king so the answer to the being without a king
01:20unless you have jesus you don't have the king but if you have jesus you do have the rightful king
01:27but they're being without sacrifice or without image two words in hebrew zebach is sacrifice
01:34it's the legitimate sacrifice which is ordained by god you have examples of the legitimate sacrifice
01:40in the hebrew scriptures you have the passover lamb who sacrificed to remember the night of the
01:45passover exodus chapter 12 you have the sacrificial offerings in leviticus chapter 1 to 9 and above all
01:53you have the yom kippur sacrifice the day of atonement sacrifice in leviticus 16 which is used to cover
02:00the sins of israel leviticus 16 they're told to take two goats one for the lord to be killed as an
02:06atoning sacrifice in the holy of holies in the temple and the second one to be sent into the
02:11wilderness bearing away the sins of the people all these sacrifices involve the shedding of blood
02:16life of the flesh is in the blood it says in leviticus 2017 given it to you upon the altar to
02:23make atonement for your souls it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul the death of the animal
02:29the innocent for the guilty and it becomes a type of jesus death for us for our sins
02:35now all of these sacrifices are absent in modern judaism they don't happen you don't have a passover
02:41lamb sacrificed at passover you just have the shank bone of the lamb which is put on the seder dish
02:46but it's a reminder that there once was a sacrifice but there is no longer today
02:50you don't offer any sacrifices on the day of atonement go to the synagogue on the day of
02:55atonement day they will recite the verses from the torah which speak about the sacrifice but they
03:01won't actually commit the sacrifice because it can only be done in the place where the temple once
03:06stood and of course jesus is the final sacrifice he's the one who makes it possible for us to come
03:13to god through faith in him and when you look in the torah you find that the shedding of blood is required
03:19by god read in exodus chapter 24 it says moses took half the blood and put it on the basins and half the
03:28blood he sprinkled on the altar then he took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of
03:33the people and he said all that the lord has said we will do and be obedience and god took moses took
03:38the blood sprinkled it on the people and said this is the blood of the covenant which the lord has made
03:42with you according to all these words exodus 24 so as god moses read the covenant books of the
03:50covenant to the people uh he offered he made the sacrifice blood and he sprinkled the blood upon the
03:57people and said this is the blood of the covenant you see that every covenant in the old testament is
04:02sealed with blood hebrews tells us according to the law all more things almost all things are purified
04:09with blood without the shedding of blood there is no remission so blood has to be shed in order to
04:16enter into the covenant sacrifice to atone for sins does that mean that god is bloodthirsty no the
04:25shedding of blood is actually essential because god is holy and we're not there has to be something
04:29which covers the gap between our unholiness and his holiness and what he requires is the death of one
04:35who is innocent to cover the sin of those who are guilty so the animal is innocent it dies
04:42sheds its blood in order that the guilty may be forgiven that's the whole point of the yom kippur
04:49sacrifice priest confesses the sins of the people over the head of the goat and sacrifices it as an
04:56atonement toning sacrifice for the sin of the people has to die shedding of blood means death
05:02you see how that relates to jesus jesus had to die he had to literally die and shed his blood in order
05:09to redeem us and when we look at the new testament we see the verse which we've already read today
05:17concerning the new covenant matthew 26 as they were eating jesus took bread blessed and broke it
05:25and gave it to the disciples and said take eat this is my body then he took the cup and gave thanks
05:32and gave it to them saying drink from it all of you this is my blood of the new covenant which is
05:36shed for many for the remission of sins so the sacrifice of blood is for the remission of sins
05:43it's through the blood of jesus in the book of hebrews he tells us a bit more about this hebrews chapter 9
05:50verse 11
05:50but christ came as high priest of the good things to come with a greater and more perfect tabernacle
05:57not made with hands that is not of this creation not with the blood of goats and calves not but with
06:02his own blood he entered the most holy place once for all having obtained eternal redemption for if
06:08the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean sanctifies for the
06:12purifying of the flesh how much more shall the blood of christ who through the eternal spirit offered
06:17himself without spot to god cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living god for this
06:23reason he is the mediator of the new covenant by means of death for the redemption of the transgressions
06:28under the first covenant that those who are called may receive the promise of eternal inheritance
06:34so jesus is the mediator of the new covenant by means of death by means of shedding his blood
06:40the redemption of transgressions that those who are called may receive the promise
06:45of eternal inheritance colossians 1 says he has delivered us from the power of darkness and
06:52conveyed us into the kingdom of his son son of his love in whom we have redemption through his blood
06:57the forgiveness of sins you only have forgiveness of sins through the blood of jesus that's why you
07:03had to die and you have to repent and believe that christ died for your sins now the problem for
07:10judaism is it's today without that sacrifice when the temple was destroyed it did create a problem for
07:19judaism they no longer had a place to offer the sacrifices particularly the yom kippur the day of
07:24atonement sacrifice and the story is told that man called rabbi yohanan ben zakai and rabbi yoshua
07:33were walking by the ruins of the temple and rabbi joshua said woe to us that the place where the
07:40atonement for the sins of israel was made has been destroyed okay so recognize there's a problem the
07:46temple has been destroyed we can't make atonement for our sins anymore rabbi yohanan ben zakai replied
07:52do not be grieved my son do you not know that we have a means of making atonement that is as good as
07:56this what is it acts of loving kindness as just said i desire hesed loving kindness and not sacrifice
08:03can you see what's happened there they've changed the rules if you like no longer do we require the
08:11setting of blood we can now achieve salvation redemption atonement through acts of kindness
08:16through good deeds and after the destruction of the temple this man rabbi yohanan ben zakai
08:22established an academy at a place called yavne where he set up to preserve judaism without
08:28sacrifices without priesthood and without a temple and he said in effect that good deeds have replaced
08:34the sacrifices of the torah as the means of gaining atonement for sin now it's interesting that jewish
08:41critics of christianity say that paul changed the torah he changed the rules so that we have a different
08:47method now but if you look at this actually the rabbis have changed the torah as well and they
08:54made a big change which actually leaves out the need for the blood of atonement leaves out the need
09:00for jesus and in fact they've set up a new religion and i found a jewish commentator even says this
09:07found this on the internet rabban yohanan ben rabberian says judaism did not disappear with
09:18the destruction of the temple what it did was transform itself from a religion centered around
09:23the temple priesthood and sacrifice it became a religion centered around torah study prayer atonement
09:29in the synagogue and deeds of kindness from historical point of view it is accurate to say that the
09:35biblical and rabbinic judaism are two different though of course related religions it was rabbi
09:41yohanan ben zakai more than anyone else who made this possible to you that he says they're two
09:45different religions is that interesting related but different you could say us that's the same about
09:52christianity is related but different and which one is the truth today orthodox jews zealously keep the
10:01aspects of the torah which are possible to keep kosher food sabbath observance ritual purity
10:07festivals and holy days but this doesn't ask the question about why god has permitted for nearly
10:12two thousand years to pass since the keeping of so many aspects of the torah particularly the
10:17sacrificial system have been impossible there's no appointed sacrifice no just just trust in prayer and
10:24fasting and repentance to cover sins as hosea says they're without sacrifice they're also without the
10:33image the matzeva the pillar or the monument which is used as the standing image devoted to idolatrous use
10:39and by and large since the babylonian captivity and in the diaspora today israel has kept away from
