Hundreds gather at Victoria's state parliament to protest Emergency Services Levy

Police have estimated the crowd who protested on the steps of Victoria's state parliament against the proposal for an Emergency Services Levy to be over 400 people. Video by Petra Oates.

00:00I'm blown away today. We've got nearly 400 here. I was hoping for 200. On very short notice we've

00:11been able to rally the troops from right around Victoria and we've been able to push back, push

00:15back this stupid environmental emergency services levy to Thursday at least and we need to keep up

00:23the pressure. I really need everybody's support. Every asset owner here in Victoria needs to get

00:28on the petitions, push back, talk to the crossbench, get your message out. This is just a crazy, crazy

00:34tax. I'm here today on the steps of Parliament House because this is going to impact our region

00:40significantly with around 5.2 million dollars extra ripped out of our local economy out of the

00:46hands of farmers. That's just the farming community. So we know that this is going to be a big impact

00:50to our local area, to our farmers who are already struggling in a lot of ways and particularly will

00:56impact our local economy in a way that is going to be felt throughout the whole region.

01:07hurt those who contribute most to our economy, to our livelihoods, to look after our land. This is just

01:13an evil tax that needs to just be knocked on the head right today. I just want to say we've stopped

01:19this bill twice already. It was going to be debated five weeks ago, it was going to be voted on five

01:23weeks ago. It got stopped. It was going to be voted on today. It got stopped. We can stop it again on

01:29Thursday if we stay united, if we keep communicating with our government and we make sure our voices are
