00:00Let's talk about Medicaid because that's been the big word and even Republicans are not happy with potential Medicaid cuts.
00:08President Trump has said repeatedly, most recently at a town hall, I believe with News Nation last week, saying entitlements like Medicaid and Social Security won't be touched.
00:18Do you believe that? Because, I mean, billions and billions of dollars have to be cut here.
00:22He's lying and it's not it's not an issue of anything other than math.
00:27You look at the budget they've proposed. They proposed to cut at least eight hundred and eighty billion dollars from the Energy and Commerce Committee.
00:35If you take all of the budgets that Energy and Commerce oversee, they have less than five hundred billion dollars in spending unless you talk about Medicaid and Medicare.
00:47So there's eight hundred eighty billion dollars in cuts, less than five hundred billion in everything else.
00:52So if they zero out the entirety of the budget of everything else they oversee that has to do with, by the way, energy and commerce.
01:00Think about how big those sectors are. Then they have to cut Medicaid or Medicare.
01:04Now, they have said repeatedly over and over and over again, they will not touch Medicare.
01:09They are clearly being a little more squirrely when it comes to Medicaid.
01:13In fact, Republican Representative Don Bacon said last week that he would agree to no more than five hundred billion dollars in Medicaid cuts.
01:23Almost explicit, but certainly implicit in that statement is they are going to cut Medicaid under this budget.
01:30You know, look, I'm one. Get rid of all waste, fraud and abuse in government.
01:34Get rid of it everywhere. That way we can use more money to help people.
01:37There is not five hundred billion dollars of waste or fraud in an already underfunded health insurance program, nearly half of which goes to our kids.
01:48I mean, what are your Republican colleagues saying about this, even privately, because they have constituents that rely on Medicaid?
01:58Yeah, I mean, look, I think that now the rubber is going to meet the road on this budget and they are going to have to go home and answer for it.
02:04Right now they're not. Republicans across the country are encouraging their members not to have town halls, not to meet their constituents head on.
02:12When they have, you have seen people stand up and say, what's going to happen to my Social Security?
02:16What's going to happen to our health insurance?
02:18Again, 40 percent of people nationwide to use Medicaid are children.
02:24And so, you know, this is going to be something they have to answer for.
02:28Well, as more budget talks continue, I hope you come back on and join me once again.
02:34Congressman McGarvey, you are welcome back anytime.
02:36Thank you for joining me.
02:38No, thanks so much for having me.
