Sudinfo vous propose l'émission "Home Cinéma" de VOO / Be TV consacrée à l'actualité du 7ème art. A l'honneur cette semaine: Thomas Vinterberg pour nous parler de sa première série « Families like ours », disponible sur BeTv. Une émission très intéressante dans laquelle le réalisateur de « Drunk » et de « Festen » nous parle de la différence de processus entre le film la série.

01:33When I had the idea, people thought it was a crazy experimental thought.
01:39And then we were sort of overtaken by time.
01:44Then COVID arrived and we suddenly saw scenes on the television that we had in our script.
01:51Like press meetings and people struggling to get toilet paper.
01:55For some reason people, they can lose everything except toilet paper.
01:59Yes, so life changed while making this series.
02:03And this series became more relevant even, I guess.

02:13It's very experimental and you have a very sociologic approach.
02:19Is that something that changed with the COVID and war in Ukraine or it was always there?
02:25No, it was always the case.
02:26I never wanted to make a catastrophe movie.
02:29It is a kind of a catastrophe movie, just in slow motion, this one.
02:33Also, it's not meant to be political or environmental.
02:35This is meant to be existential.
02:39How do you and I cope in a situation like that, in crisis?
02:44You and I being from the Western world, how can we deal with suddenly losing everything we love,
02:51everything we take for granted, everything that is served in front of us every day?
02:55And it was sort of a mirror in a sense of how valuable it is to have a safe home.
03:02Well, it's a theory also who put in perspective the individual facing the group, you know.
03:09I wanted to know if you had that idea to discequer, you know, in that individual.
03:17Discequer is the right word.
03:19We wanted to go step by step and confront and push and see what happens to these human beings under this pressure.
03:27I want to see what happens to Danes and Westerners, I guess, I suppose, when we lose our empathy.
03:35You have sold your house 1,7 million below its real value, just before the announcement, just before the market falls.
03:43We think that this thing could interest the authorities.
03:46It looks like an initial mistake.
03:47And also, one aspect of the series, it's not very pessimistic.
03:52If you look at drama, there's always hope, there's always someone wanting to achieve something.
03:58And in that, there's hope built into it.
04:01There's a more personal reason as well.
04:14I wrote this, I began to write this four years ago, and it was a very dark time in my life.
04:20It is still, but I had lost my daughter one year before.
04:23And my wife read what I've been writing, and she cried, and she said, it's so good, Thomas, but it's, I think you're suffering from a depression.
04:36And I said, I'm not, I'm just really sad.
04:38And she said, I understand that, but maybe you should allow some hope into your story and into your life.
04:45And so this has been, yeah, my main agenda for the last four years, both in drama and in life.
04:54You cannot just pull out a shelf and there's hope in it and add it in a drama.
05:00But I could open up the end and see, so how do these people cope?
05:05What happens to them when they land?
05:07Will they start new lives?
05:09Will they start to grow in this new soil?
05:11And that I found hopeful.

05:39Et Thomas, la dernière question est pour moi, juste pour savoir, did la série, building la série, directing la série, changé votre perspective comme un directeur?
05:48Vous devriez savoir qu'il y a des phases que vous passez quand vous shootiez, chaque jour c'est un struggle.
05:55Et dans le début de la phase de la phase, il y a des self-censorsions, il y a beaucoup de peur de comment ça va fonctionner, et tout comme ça.
06:06Et puis, halfway through le shoot, il peut y aller et vous juste shoot.
06:11Mais alors, il y a seulement 15 jours left.
06:13On a series, it took a couple, it was the same, but then there's a year left,
06:21where you're actually in that phase where you just shoot, and where you don't look back,
06:25and where you forget about yourself and your performance and all, and the money and all that.
06:29You just shoot.
06:30And that's a really creative place to be.
06:33Fabrice, you know that as an artist, that the best thing we can experience as artists is forgetting about ourselves.
06:39And on a series, you really had that opportunity, because it goes on and on and on and on.
06:45And that's quite nice, actually.
