12:43british superbikes the second race of the season about to get underway here cloudy skies a bit
12:50chilly but we can't wait to see what's in store it's first blood to brad ray and he sends out a
12:57big message to his opposition after a fine victory yesterday catch me if you can and we're about to
13:04see what everyone's got he's the first rider to win the opening race on his return from world
13:09superbikes here in bsb since shaky burn 2011 that's the last time a rider returning from worlds
13:16to bsb got the job done this is how they line up on the grid then for a 12 laps grid they won't be
13:23thinking about tires in this one it will just be all out for glory brad ray on pole with an all-time
13:30lap record and the best ever race lap yesterday erwin second after a fine display yesterday leon haslam
13:36was on the podium he starts third storm stacy had a great drive result yesterday he starts fourth
13:41ahead of tommy bridewell what can tommy do here today and charlie nesbitt looking for another top
13:45six it's then idden ride and kent on row three it's in store for those three max cook looked sharp
13:52yesterday until the fall at shell oils he starts from 10th ahead of lee jackson and rory skinner
13:57then there's work to do for everyone else from road five and beyond brooke starts 13th ahead of scott swan
14:03the rookie and john mcfee with kerr hickman and mcconnell on row six
14:08and then we've got fraser rogers starting from 19th spot hedger and davy todd and on the final row
14:17jamie vancet kelris jamie davis and blaze baker no andy erwin he's been ruled out with injury for the
14:22weekend and no lewis rollo to start the season looking forward to this it's all out no tires
14:28to think about and can glenn do anything about brad ah you've got to think that brad would go into
14:33this with a slight advantage on new tires he seemed to be able to do the business chasing here that's
14:37when he was actually thinking about saving it towards the end so no thoughts like that now he
14:41can just uh yeah let his head down and go the riders make their way onto the grid here at alton park a
14:4712-lap sprint 32 miles of this cheshire circuit to tackle all of these guys on the front row have
14:56had plenty of race wins here before we wait now for the green flag there it is and the red flag to be
15:01removed it's that time again it's eyes on the lights in fennett's vsb the race two of the season good start from
15:11everyone at the front row look at storm stacy flying through from the second row don't know what just
15:15happened there but he's second into turn one brad ray with a whole shot once more yeah glenn thought to
15:20start there glenn irwin back a couple of places ray then leads on the way down to cascades for the
15:25first time stacy in second haslam in third then it's glenn irwin coil right just behind and then christian
15:31didn't yeah i do feel that glenn couldn't afford to do what he just did if he's going to go and beat
15:35brad he need to get in front it would have been quite difficult for brad to get past glenn uh because
15:41he's setting up properly the yamaha wouldn't just have had the top speed of the dicati but uh he's got
15:47his own track to go out now run his own lines and brad he's going to take some catches well what we saw
15:52yesterday was that from the moment the lights went out bradway off he went and he's going to be more
15:57inclined to do that now we've got a lot less laps to do it doesn't have to worry about that
16:01reattire he can just go one thing he's not had to deal with though in the past is the top hat
16:05storm stacy in second place flames popping out the exhaust there of the bathams ag and bmw as they go
16:11through his ease if you see how storm says he's chucking from one side that's that's quite a bit of
16:15risk involved on the front end there full commitment yep from stacy right there again just as he did
16:20yesterday he's got three or four tenths in his back pocket here at the end of lap one glenn irwin's not
16:25been able to find a way through on leon haslam yet they're going to have to get busy soon if they
16:30want to keep brad ray inside brad he's so confident with the front end of that yeah now watch how it
16:35just turns it in look at the rear's light he's got the brakes on brakes off bang and in it goes
16:39nice move from leon haslam down into large corner number 91 he moves up into second place but as they
16:45come across the line brad ray with a good advantage almost a second up a 36 point more from a standing start
16:51even better than yesterday quicker than he stands out yesterday which we're impressed with
16:55that is incredible from bradley ray the 2022 bsb champion and again he's not even in the same
17:02frame this is only lap two can haslam close it down yeah haslam had a lot of brake issues yesterday he
17:08said if they can get those fixed he was very confident he'll go quicker glenn irwin that was
17:12bold and he gets through but he's wide through island bend as he tried to get through on storm stacy
17:17but that's okay he's got the inside line now for shell oil so he's wide again yeah he's trying hard
17:22and that's that's the problem he's losing time as a result and now he's got kyle ride all over him
17:28yeah he's seeing the he's seeing haslam and brad ray getting away at the front and he's just trying a
17:33little bit too hard he's been now playing erwin then it's costing him some time but this has been a
17:38good lap from leon haslam absolutely he's biting the screen a bit there in second place there's stacy in
17:43third number 79 deep there forbidden yeah this this circuit is one where you must flow if you try
17:49hard and bite the screen typically you don't go that foot you've got the floor around it it's got to
17:54work for you wasn't the best of starts for tommy bridewell work again to do for the former champ
17:58he's down in 10th place behind lee jackson at the moment remember this is only a 12 lap sprint so no
18:04time to really get dialed in but this has definitely been a good lap from leon haslam it'd be worth keeping an
18:09eye on the lap times here is erwin now pounces on stacy but he's wide again and on the cutback storm
18:15stacy they'll be side by side over dearly and across the line storm stacy not giving an inch and he
18:19doesn't over the line they go a 32.8 from leon haslam as kyle ride goes through to third place
18:28that's the fastest ever lap we've got leon haslam he's back he said he he said he could do this what a
18:34lap from the motor rapido to catty rider erwin again just a little deep into cascades it's been a
18:40scrappy couple of laps to the northern irishman brad ray going the pace he's going at hasn't
18:44a look back he'll look at his uh his board going across the start and finish think wow somebody's
18:50picked up a bit of pace someone said the weeds yeah danny kent up the inside now of storm stacy's
18:56he's just been beaten up a bit on the last lap or two so kent now goes through kyle ride up into
19:02third spot this is brad ray and there is leon haslam i don't think he hasn't been on this
19:08decay the minute he got on it he's hungry isn't he so hungry to get a victory one you're not
19:13it looks anything but 41 at the moment he turns 42 at the end of this month yep the 2018 champion
19:18so unlucky actually not to get a win here at alton park the back end of last year he's got his eyes firmly
19:25fix he did say didn't he in tight firman yesterday get the brakes fixed i can i can go
19:32that's doing a great job this is ride and irwin number one and number two carl ride the reigning
19:37champion but this is the battle now we need to keep our eyes on and you're right brad ray's about to
19:41come over the line he'll quickly glance at his pit board and go he'll say who on earth is that
19:47he'll suspect it's probably glenn but it's not it's leon haslam over the line we go once more then brad
19:53ray leads from leon haslam it's another 32.8 from haslam he's rolling back the years here he's fit
20:01for the first time at the start of the season and now we've got a battle on our hands and brad ray is
20:06going to have to work for the sprint race victory the pair of them are two and a half seconds clear of
20:10the rest of the field yeah a great example of the different lines you've got to run with these different
20:14very different machines going down into cascades uh haslam had to get the thing a little bit slow
20:20down a little bit more uh and coming from a little bit tighter in brad could run it really wide going
20:25and they still make the apex it's yamaha versus ducati it's brad ray versus leon haslam through britain's
20:33we go only one line through here not room for two over the hilltop haslam not going to be close enough on
20:39this occasion to have a look down into his ease but what a couple of laps that has been in the
20:45background glenn erwin has got through on kyle ryde so he's up to third and now he's just going to want
20:50to try and break away but is it already too late i think so yeah with a shorter race
20:58we nick of clay hill up towards druids now this is where haslam seems to be really strong here yeah he does
21:05out of druids on the drive with that ducati got some decent drive there as well and he pulls over
21:11to the inside line number 91 leon haslam does he have a look oh he thought about trying to lunge up
21:17the inside yeah he did and he found it a little bit difficult to back out of it there as well brad ray
21:22will certainly know he's got company now over dear leave did you see that from haslam full commitment and
21:28now he goes up the inside into old hall corner he holds his line as well yep it's haslam versus ray a
21:34proper ding-dong battle in here at ulton park what a ride this has been from haslam and watch this
21:41appeared if you're in for brad on the second bit of the corner burth of the time still cramped on
21:47leon haslam who raced in his 290th yesterday hungry for his 47th bsv victories first since 2018
21:58let's have a look at this move then for the lead into turn one yep this into old hall uh the problem
22:04with the inside line there is you can't really break as hard you're a little bit more led over that
22:08normally pushes you wide on the exit not for not fully unable to get the throttle open and get that
22:12big ducati going over the hilltop we go brad ray here this is one of brad's strongest parts of the
22:19circuit but then from is he's onwards let's see if that haslam can open up the gap well i've got a feeling
22:25he must think he can otherwise why would you pass you'd sit behind you'd just wait a little bit if
22:32you had a a good idea that you could get past you'd wait till the last couple of laps probably not the
22:36last lap he was fastest here on friday leon haslam bradley ray knows he's in a proper battle that gap
22:44behind by the way it's gone down to 2.2 if these two were to properly engage in a battle glenn might
22:51still have a chance yeah we've got to see how fast leon haslam's got on his own and look at this slot
22:57there's nothing splitting the pace of about 15 or so riders here further behind yep there's irwin
23:05there's gride stacy kent nesbit and co adams about three tenths slower than his fastest that lap
23:14yeah you're right that's half a second slower than some of the riders behind him by 32 eight
23:23was his fastest lap that was a 34 flat yeah sorry yeah yes obviously 1.2 seconds yep
23:31and if they continue at that pace they will invite a bit of pressure later on in this race
23:36we're only on lap six of 12 at the moment there's uh
23:38uh rorish skinner just going a bit deep into shell oils skinner battling with brooks the 14th and 15th
23:46but again their pace is just as good as the guys in fourth and fifth this is stacy in fifth place and
23:53that is glenn irwin two seconds behind at the moment leon haslam and bradley ray at present
23:59boy cult left yeah at back a second quicker last time
24:09climb up here yeah great bit of track down i'm not sure on these things but
24:13i remember fondly going up there the front end just floating over the top of that hill
24:17that was before hisies was there as well yes it was yep nick Abrew was a big fast flowing right

24:56of the winter testing programme
24:58he's fit at the start of the season
25:01for the first time in years
25:02as we mentioned, spoke to
25:04Sam Lowe's just last
25:07weekend, and he mentioned that he'd
25:09seen Lee on a bit, and he's working incredibly
25:11hard in the gym to get himself
25:13strong, ready for the season as well, and he's happy
25:15yeah, the reason he's not started
25:17any season for the last three or four
25:18fit is because he couldn't get in the gym
25:20not, he didn't want to carry that big injury
25:23yeah, of one sort or another
25:24there is Glenn Irwin
25:26desperately trying
25:29to reel in Haslam and Ray, that's Kyle
25:30Wright, number one, who, when I caught up
25:33with him this morning, told us what happened
25:35yesterday, he said I weren't going fast enough
25:36yeah, I had a few issues with the front, it's very
25:39the front end feeling
25:41for Kyle Wright and that I am a really critical
25:43and when the fuel load goes
25:45down, it lightens it up and that sets
25:46it's the front riding at a different height
25:48and he struggles with it a little bit
25:50so then

25:56into, this gap is definitely
25:58coming down here, yes it is
