‘Spooks Run Wild’ is a 1941 American horror comedy film directed by Phil Rosen, featuring Bela Lugosi and the East Side Kids. The story follows a group of boys from New York City who are sent to a summer camp. While traveling, they hear a radio broadcast warning of a "monster killer" in the area. When their bus breaks down, they end up at a mysterious mansion owned by Nardo, a caped figure played by Lugosi. As eerie events unfold, the boys suspect Nardo is the killer, leading to a mix of suspense, humor, and classic horror tropes. The film was released just before Halloween and was designed to combine the popularity of Lugosi with the comedic antics of the East Side Kids.

00:01:33All right, guys, sir.
00:01:34Hey, Danny, go hit him with Glippi.
00:01:36Go ahead.
00:01:37Hey, you werecost up quickly.
00:01:38It'll be not Katzkils.
00:01:40I'm telling you.
00:01:41I'm telling you.
00:01:41It's so serious.
00:01:43Well, we got your boys for you.
00:01:44Thanks, officer.
00:01:45They might be underprivileged,
00:01:46but they sure ain't underdeveloped.
00:01:47I guess they got us, monks.
00:01:49Take a couple of squad cars
00:01:50and these Dick Tracy bracelets
00:01:51and consist of...
00:01:51Hey, what do you mean?
00:01:52What do I write?
00:01:53I have your facts together.
00:01:54What'll I write the boys on 4th Street?
00:01:56Hey, where are we going?
00:01:56Man, we're going to camp.
00:01:58Camp? What, have we been drafted?
00:02:00I'm disappointed. I thought we were going to reform school.
00:02:02I would have been a sophomore this year.
00:02:04Oh, kid.
00:02:04Yeah.
00:02:05What do you want us to do with them?
00:02:06Posit them in the bus.
00:02:08I'll fix them cops.
00:02:09I'll go to the country and get sick and die and come back and haunt them.
00:02:11I know we have.
00:02:13I don't know.
00:02:26We're only going to stop here for a few minutes.
00:02:31Just long enough to pick up mail supplies.
00:02:33I hope you don't mind.
00:02:34Okay.
00:02:35I've got to check one of those back tires anyway.
00:02:37Take me about ten minutes.
00:02:38Good.
00:02:39Say, fellas, don't any of you wander away.
00:02:41Look around if you want to, but don't get far away from the bus.
00:02:43Right?
00:02:44Come on, honey.
00:02:49Sit down here.
00:02:52You don't know you're going to be inside.
00:02:55I don't know.
00:02:55I don't know you're going to be inside.
00:03:25Hey, get out of that bus.
00:03:27Hey, it's screwing up.
00:03:28Come on, get out.
00:03:29Well, what do you know, Joe?
00:03:31Just let's go.
00:03:32What's the mess?
00:03:33What's that about?
00:03:34Don't blow your prop.
00:03:35What's that?
00:03:35I don't know you're going to be inside.
00:03:37I don't know you're going to be inside.
00:03:37I don't know you're going to be inside.
00:03:37What was the bright idea of that?
00:03:40Oh, that's just a little scientific curiosity, that's all.
00:03:43Law of gravitation, all that kind of stuff.
00:03:45Yeah.
00:03:45I can see we're all going to have lots of fun together in the next two weeks.
00:03:49Yeah, so can I.
00:03:50That'll be good.
00:03:53I ain't got no sense of humor, that's all.
00:03:56Say, you fellas hang around here.
00:03:57I'm going to a little window shopping.
00:03:58Yeah.
00:03:59I don't like that guy's altitude.
00:04:02Me neither.
00:04:03If anybody thinks I'm going to stay up here and associate with him and all these cows and chickens, they're crazy.
00:04:07No, I milked a cow once.
00:04:08A very intricate affair.
00:04:10You see, a cow has four faucets.
00:04:12What for?
00:04:12Well, the first faucet is for buttermilk, the second for buttermilk, and the third is for evaporated milk.
00:04:18What's the fourth one for?
00:04:19Come to think of this cow only had three.
00:04:21Oh, that cow must have been contented.
00:04:23Oh, very contented.
00:04:24Are you contented?
00:04:25Oh, extremely so.
00:04:26That's fine.
00:04:28I don't get it.
00:04:29Hey, listen.
00:04:30You guys lay low, see?
00:04:31I think I got an angle.
00:04:32As soon as it gets dark, make a break.
00:04:34That's right.
00:04:37Good.
00:04:43Hey.
00:04:44I'm thirsty.
00:04:53What do you have?
00:04:54I don't know.
00:04:55You got a menu?
00:04:56Oh, certainly.
00:04:56I'll have some of that.
00:05:00That's the name of the town, silly.
00:05:02Oh, that's what I thought.
00:05:04Give me a root beer.
00:05:05All righty.
00:05:06And what do you have?
00:05:08I'll have a demi-tasse and a large cup of black coffee.
00:05:11A what?
00:05:12I'll have root beer, too.
00:05:13And, uh, what do you have?
00:05:17You.
00:05:18You're very fresh.
00:05:20I hope your bread is just as fresh.
00:05:22Hey, what are you doing tonight?
00:05:24Got a date.
00:05:25How about tomorrow night?
00:05:27I've got a date.
00:05:28How about Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night?
00:05:30I've got a date.
00:05:31Well, that kills that week.
00:05:33Hey, what's your name?
00:05:35Margie.
00:05:36Margie?
00:05:36What a moniker.
00:05:38Margie and Muggsy.
00:05:40That's got a lot on them up here.
00:05:42We're going to camp, you know.
00:05:43Yeah, we're underprivileged.
00:05:46We interrupt this program for an important announcement to listeners near Hillside and Colton.
00:05:51All citizens are warned to be on the lookout for the Munster Killer, who is believed to be in this vicinity.
00:05:56This maniac has left the trail of three inhuman murders and is believed heading upstate.
00:06:02We return you now to your program.
00:06:05Munsters?
00:06:06They don't mean nothing else.
00:06:08We eat them every morning for breakfast.
00:06:09Bring those munsters on.
00:06:10I ain't as scared of them.
00:06:11I'm anemic.
00:06:12I was taken for a ride once.
00:06:13You were?
00:06:14Yeah.
00:06:15There I was.
00:06:16Miles from Times Square, somewhere in Central Park, I think.
00:06:19And them gangsters, they had me backed against a tree.
00:06:22And they got a machine gun.
00:06:22See, you know what?
00:06:24What do you think happened?
00:06:26I don't know what happened.
00:06:27He got killed.
00:06:28Oh, fantastic, wasn't it?
00:06:32Hey, there goes our bus.
00:06:43They're pretty near Mr. Bus, didn't they?
00:06:45Yeah, I've been looking for you, Jim.
00:06:47Oh, hello there, Mayor.
00:06:48What's on your mind?
00:06:49Did you hear that stuff on the radio about that monster coming this way?
00:06:51Yep, and that ain't all.
00:06:52I just got a telegram from the state police.
00:06:54You did, huh?
00:06:55They better come inside and talk it over.
00:07:04Jeff Dixon, if you don't stop pouting, I'll scream.
00:07:06I'm not pouting.
00:07:07Who?
00:07:08And for no reason at all.
00:07:09That's no way to enjoy a vacation.
00:07:11Vacation?
00:07:12Are you kidding?
00:07:13With that bunch of gorillas, it'll be a nightmare.
00:07:15They're not gorillas.
00:07:16They're young and a little wild, maybe.
00:07:18Besides, you know perfectly well the campless boys who are denied the things you've had.
00:07:24Well, all right, so they need the outdoor life.
00:07:26But I was hoping for a nice, quiet summer at camp so I could study my thesis and be with you.
00:07:31Instead of that, it's going to be as quiet around here as the fun house at Coney Island.
00:07:34Well, some excitement will do us good.
00:07:37It's been a dull summer till now.
00:07:39Well, I like that.
00:07:40So now I'm dull.
00:07:41No, but lawyers aren't usually exciting.
00:07:44They're steady and, well, solid, like the Rock of Gibraltar.
00:07:47And just about as good company, I suppose.
00:07:49Well, you listen to me, Linda Mason.
00:07:50I may be studying to be a lawyer.
00:07:51And a good one, too.
00:07:53Yes, and a good one, too.
00:07:58Okay, you win.
00:08:00You're a good nurse, too.
00:08:03Hey, you know that guy that runs this place?
00:08:05He wouldn't be bad if it wasn't for his disposition.
00:08:07Hey, he ain't no good.
00:08:08But that girl that hangs around with him, she ain't bad.
00:08:10Hey, what's she supposed to be?
00:08:12According to a uniform, I guess she's a nice.
00:08:14A nice?
00:08:14Pardon me, well, I run a temperature.
00:08:16Well, anyhow, the shower's okay.
00:08:17I didn't need it.
00:08:19What?
00:08:19It was full of bugs.
00:08:20What do you mean?
00:08:21I heard that noise there with a wrong mouth that the thing had vitamins in it.
00:08:27Man, it sure is dark in here.
00:08:29I'll say, I can't even see you.
00:08:31I can't even see myself.
00:08:37Hey, what's that?
00:08:39It's an owl.
00:08:40I know it's an owl, but who's howling?
00:08:45That's an owl.
00:08:46It's got four legs and fleas.
00:08:51How can you read in the dark?
00:08:53Huh?
00:08:53How can you read in the dark?
00:08:55How about the night school?
00:08:56Hey, shut up, will you?
00:08:58Let a guy go to sleep.
00:09:02Hey, Mugs.
00:09:04What?
00:09:04I'm not scared or nothing like that, but remember what we heard about that guy on the radio?
00:09:10So?
00:09:12Well, suppose he was brawling around here.
00:09:14Don't you think we ought to stand guard or something?
00:09:17Nah, you just go out and set a couple of bear traps for him.
00:09:20Happy dreams, slappy.
00:09:22This book is murder.
00:09:23Thirsting for the flow of bright red blood.
00:09:31At this moment...
00:09:32At this moment...
00:09:34At this moment...
00:09:35It's about theard, but there's one.
00:09:36This was a large night.
00:09:37First of all, the car was gone.
00:09:39I'm not going to stay in the car.
00:09:40It's over.
00:09:41It's the one.
00:09:42Let's go.
00:09:43Let's go.
00:09:44But now...
00:09:45This road...
00:09:46Really?
00:09:47Oh, sorry.
00:09:47I don't know.
00:09:49I don't know.
00:09:50I don't know.
00:09:51I don't know.
00:09:52I don't know.
00:09:54But now...
00:09:59I don't know.
00:10:00I don't know.
00:10:01I don't know.
00:10:02I don't know.
00:10:03Good evening, my friend.
00:10:21Evening.
00:10:23You are a resident here?
00:10:25Oh, yeah.
00:10:26Yeah.
00:10:27Good.
00:10:28Then perhaps you can tell me where the Billings Estate is.
00:10:31The Billings Estate?
00:10:34Why, it ain't been lived in for ten years.
00:10:36Not since old man Billings was murdered in his sleep.
00:10:40Interesting.
00:10:42But you were about to tell me where it was.
00:10:44Oh, sure.
00:10:45Sure.
00:10:47It's up there.
00:10:48On the top of Billings Mountain.
00:10:51Oh, I see.
00:10:54Is there a road to it?
00:10:56Yes.
00:10:57But, uh...
00:11:03Good night, my friend.
00:11:04Let's go.
00:11:34It's you.
00:11:41What do you mean?
00:11:43I know you.
00:11:44I know who he is, too.
00:11:46He?
00:11:47The monster.
00:11:48He was here just a second ago, just now.
00:11:51The radio said he was coming and he's here.
00:11:53And you know who I am?
00:11:54Of course.
00:11:55I read about you in this book.
00:11:57You're Dr. Von Grosch.
00:11:58And you've come here to save us from him.
00:12:01Yes, I am Dr. Von Grosch.
00:12:03I knew it.
00:12:04I knew it right away.
00:12:06And the monster.
00:12:07Did you know him at once also?
00:12:09Right from the start.
00:12:11Couldn't miss him.
00:12:12With those glaring eyes and red lips.
00:12:16The dwarf, too.
00:12:17Like a little black spider.
00:12:20And the trailer full of coffins.
00:12:23I was right in the middle of the book when they come in.
00:12:26Where have they gone?
00:12:27Said he was going to the empty Billings estate.
00:12:30On top of the hill.
00:12:31Yes.
00:12:32The solitude he needs.
00:12:34Tell me, this knowledge you possess.
00:12:36You've gained it all from that book?
00:12:38Oh, sure.
00:12:39You see, I'm kind of a student of black magic.
00:12:43Say, I better tell the constable you're here.
00:12:45You'll need help.
00:12:46No, wait.
00:12:47We must proceed slowly, carefully.
00:12:50As you know, at night the monster is strong.
00:12:52The police will be helpless against him.
00:12:53I guess that's right.
00:12:54I know that's right.
00:12:57Perhaps.
00:12:59Perhaps you'd like to help me.
00:13:02Oh, sure, Dr. Von Groesch.
00:13:03Fine.
00:13:05Now, first, though you may speak of the monster's arrival, you must keep my presence a secret.
00:13:10That is of their utmost importance.
00:13:12You have a room someplace where we may converse?
00:13:15Oh, yeah.
00:13:16I've got a cottage.
00:13:19Just take a few minutes to close up the station.
00:13:21There won't be any more business anyway.
00:13:23Fine.
00:13:23I'll wait here.
00:13:24Where are we going?
00:13:48Oh, yeah.
00:13:49Shh.
00:13:50Wake up the whole camp.
00:13:51What's the matter with you guys?
00:13:52I don't feel so good.
00:13:54I've got a little insomania.
00:13:56Why don't you put some liniment on it?
00:13:57Yeah.
00:13:59I know where you're going.
00:14:00You got a date with our girl, Margie.
00:14:02So I got a date with Margie.
00:14:03So what?
00:14:04So we got a date, too, and we're going to keep it.
00:14:06You guys can't leave camp.
00:14:07You'll get in trouble.
00:14:08You've got to have an appointment.
00:14:09You got one?
00:14:10Why, certainly.
00:14:11Let's see it.
00:14:15There's nothing in my smoking jacket.
00:14:17Hey, quit surrounding me, will you?
00:14:18I'm gone, and I'm gone alone.
00:14:21That makes three of us gone alone.
00:14:23Sidewalks are free.
00:14:24Who ever heard of sidewalks in the woods?
00:14:35Didn't I tell you to be quiet?
00:14:37Quiet.
00:14:37The city of the dead.
00:14:59Do they, too, hear the howling of the frightened dogs?
00:15:03These dogs?
00:15:03Hey.
00:15:04Maybe they're not going to be quiet?
00:15:05I mean, the tiger of the Hitler War.
00:15:06They're very high.
00:15:07And somehow they're not going to speak to the sights.
00:15:08It's a good idea.
00:15:08I did.
00:15:08These dogs.
00:15:09Take this.
00:15:09And they're very heavy.
00:15:10And they're very...
00:15:11And they're very good.
00:15:11And the animals, you know, they're very busy.
00:15:12Again, they're very nice.
00:15:12And they're very good.
00:15:13And so, they're very good.
00:15:14I've got a list of these things together.
00:15:14And all they can all tell you to be again.
00:15:15I did.
00:15:16Marianna Billings, winter came after 18 short summers, she was beautiful.
00:15:35Hey you, what are you doing here?
00:15:45Oh, jeez, mosquitoes are driving me crazy!
00:16:03Why did you put citronella on like we did?
00:16:05Citronella? I thought you said vanilla. I'm giving these guys a party.
00:16:08Hey, I wonder if we're heading in the right direction.
00:16:10Ah, you got nothing to worry about pal, I got my compass with me.
00:16:12Well, which way are we going?
00:16:14It's so dark, I can't see the compass.
00:16:16Here, I'll give you a little light.
00:16:21That's a fine thing, someone stole one of their hands off.
00:16:25Somebody stole one of their hands, you must have been a magician, the compass only has one hand.
00:16:29Well, why don't somebody line me those things?
00:16:31Come on, let's get out of this shell hole.
00:16:34I wonder if this is a cow trail or the state highway.
00:16:41That's a nice place for a picnic. You run out of toothpicks, you can use time needles.
00:16:45Why don't you look where you're going?
00:16:47What are you looking for?
00:16:48Remember what we heard on the radio about that ghoul, that guy that sucks all the blood out of you?
00:16:52What would he be doing out here, sucking the sap out of the trees?
00:16:54Hey, does the guy really suck the blood out of you?
00:16:56Yeah!
00:16:57Well, I got nothing to worry about because the mosquitoes got all mine.
00:16:59Ow!
00:17:00That was a Messerschmitt!
00:17:02Hey, what if he really was out here?
00:17:04What if you was back home?
00:17:06Yeah?
00:17:07Your old man will give you a hit in the head like that.
00:17:10I ain't got an old man.
00:17:11The kid's an orphan.
00:17:15Oh, tripping, huh?

00:53:17I was sharing a room with a skeleton.

00:54:08Remember in that book what it said about the monster?
00:54:10You can only scare them with two things.
00:54:11Silver bullets and blessed onion.
00:54:12But we ain't got neither.
00:54:13So there's only one thing we can do and that's to get tough.
00:54:14Plenty tough, see?
00:54:15What do we do with the fellas back home when they step out of line?
00:54:16Knock them out.
00:54:17Exactly.
00:54:18That's what we're gonna do with that vulture and the little termite that hangs out with
00:54:22them.
00:54:23Get it?
00:54:24Right.
00:54:25Right.
00:54:26Right.
00:54:27Right.
00:54:28The place would be just like the subway if they had lights down here.
00:54:29I wish they're trying to come out.
00:54:30I wish they'd come out.
00:54:31I wish they'd come out.

00:54:36I wish they'd come out.
00:54:37I wish they'd come out.
00:54:38I wish they'd come out.
00:54:39But we ain't got neither.
00:54:40So there's only one thing we can do and that's to get tough.
00:54:42Plenty tough, see?
00:54:43What do we do with the fellas back home when they step out of line?
00:54:44Knock them out.
00:54:45Exactly.
00:54:46That's what we're gonna do with that vulture and the little termite that hangs out with them.
00:54:48Get it?
00:54:49Right.
00:54:50Right.
00:54:51The place would be just like the subway if they had lights down here.
00:54:58I wish the train would come through.
00:55:08This thing's green wealthy.
00:55:28So, you couldn't stay away, could you?
00:55:41The criminal always returns to the scene of the crime.
00:55:44Who?
00:55:45Who are you?
00:55:47You don't remember me.
00:55:49For twenty years ago in this very house, I was a living being.
00:55:53I had flesh on my bones.
00:55:55Blood flowed through my veins.
00:55:57But you.
00:55:58You.
00:55:59You scared the health out of me.
00:56:02I was never in this house until tonight.
00:56:06You have made a mistake.
00:56:07It is you who has made a mistake, my friend.
00:56:10For years, you have wantonly taken the lives a million.
