00:00My name is Heather Hall and I'm running for the Grand Appeal.
00:03So when my little boy was three days old he got rushed to Bristol Children's Hospital from Swindon
00:09and he'd suffered a gastric perforation just randomly
00:13and the Grand Appeal gave us somewhere to stay, gave us support,
00:17offer you tickets to the aquarium,
00:22offer you tickets to locations and attractions in Bristol
00:25so that you can have some normality with your life and that's all down to donation.
00:29Hello, my name is Jenny Baker-Wyatt.
00:31I'm running the 10K on Sunday.
00:34I had another transplant in October 2015 so I'm coming up to 10 years post-transplant
00:41so I'm running 10K for 10 bonus years.
00:43I'm Gary McAllister.
00:45I am running for the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance.
00:48We've done a few charity bits with the Air Ambulance before
00:51so we were looking at unique ways to do a bit more fundraising
00:55and then over, as all good ideas do, Christmas drinks,
00:59we kind of just brainstormed and ended up with the idea of doing this
01:03and then the more we looked into it the more we thought,
01:05Ashley, we can do this.
01:07It's a proper challenge that we can achieve.
01:09So yeah, it's snowballed from Christmas drinks to what is now,
01:12we've raised about £3,000 and we're going to be running a half marathon on Sunday.
01:18I'm Anna-Claire Temple and this is...
01:21I'm Gillian. Hiya.
01:23And we both work for Step Together Volunteering.
01:26We've got four people who are running the half marathon for us
01:29and we've got seven people currently who are running the 10K.
01:34What has the experience been like so far for the fundraiser for the charity?
01:39So it's been pretty good.
01:41We've had some people who've worked really, really hard at fundraising
01:44and some individuals have raised over £200 each
01:48so that's really good for us
01:50and everyone is running because they're passionate about the course.
01:54I'm proud of our runners because some of them have never really run before
01:58so they chose to run because they wanted to support us
02:02so that's really nice and we're really, really grateful for the support.
02:06At the beginning it was really quite scary and quite traumatic and quite difficult
02:13but as he's got better it's got easier
02:17and feeling like you've come out the other side
02:20and feeling like you can do something positive, give back.
02:23Bristol was quite a difficult place for me to come to for a while
02:27especially with all the kind of bad memories and all the stuff that had happened
02:30but it's lovely to be able to kind of reclaim that positivity
02:33Bristol's a beautiful place and being able to recover some of those good memories
02:38do fun things and have that full circle moment of doing something amazing in Bristol
02:42and doing something amazing for the Grand Appeal is just all I can ask for.
02:47It's been challenging. I'm not a runner. I never have been.
02:52So it's a new experience really. I'm looking forward to running an actual race on Sunday
03:02and having people cheering along and hoping that that will push me around
03:07with that bit of motivation to get me around.
03:09It's been absolutely unbelievable.
03:11I think the amount of support I've got from everybody who's seen me when I've been out running
03:15so even from local park runs and local 10k races but the support has been overwhelming.
03:21I haven't done Bristol half marathon for a number of years
03:24so I'm really excited to come back and do it.
03:26If the support I've been getting so far is replicated on the race on Sunday
03:31it's going to absolutely blow me away so I'm really excited to kind of get out in front of the crowds
03:36because the support so far has been unbelievable.
03:38we know.
03:57.
