At a press briefing on Thursday, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer was asked about comments from VP JD Vance and how that impacted US-UK trade negotiations.

00:00You mentioned tech a couple of times.

00:05J.B. Banks has on a number of occasions said that one of his red lines is concessions on our anti-host culture rules.

00:13How have you managed to talk him around on that?

00:18And very quickly, if I may, I think you'll admit that this wasn't what we were expecting to do today.

00:24Donald Trump has been struggling to land his arguments on tariffs.

00:29Have we been bounced into this by a president who needs help out the whole?

00:33Well, look, in terms of free speech, I've been really clear throughout.

00:38We've had free speech in this country for a very, very long time.

00:42It's one of our foundational principles of which we're all very, very proud, and that will long, long be the case.

00:49There's nothing in this deal with impurities or that in any way whatsoever.

00:54In relation to the timing of this home-on-talk, our teams have been hard at work for weeks on end.

01:03I wanted to get a deal over the line. I'm not ashamed of that. I wanted, because I knew how important it was, particularly with JLR.

01:12We got a deal, we got it over the line, and we got it over the line in a timely manner.

01:17The last thing I wanted to do was deliver a deal, the deep coming time for those who desperately need it.

01:24So, no, I didn't know exactly. I wouldn't have been having my phone call with President Trump,

01:30our phone through the second half of the Arsenal, PSGJ, and I planned it better.

01:35But that's the way it turned now, and that's the discussion we were having later on Skype about how we are proceeding with this deal,

01:43and I'm really pleased to be able to come here today.

01:46And actually, to be able to do it on PEJ is really significant, because, of course, the US was standing there as our ally 80 years ago today.

01:54So today is an opportunity to reflect on the fact that today we stand together as allies on security and defense,

02:03of course, preventing countries with a closer on security and defense.

02:06But now we are trading the problem to those issues where we are the closest allies.

02:19Just the other day, President Trump threatened to put tariffs on the film industry.

02:24Obviously, Britain has a huge film sector.

02:27Have you asked him to take that threat off the table?

02:31What did he say? And if he hasn't taken that off the table, how are you going to stop that becoming a reality?

02:36Well, obviously, there aren't any tariffs on the film at the moment.

02:41And, of course, we're discussing it with the President's team.

02:45We'll take the same approach as we can take on other issues, whether it's tariffs imposed,

02:51you know, to reduce or potential tariffs in areas like pharmaceuticals or film.

02:59We'll take the same approach because the media parties is anti-national activist

03:06and making sure that everything that we do is good for wealthy people in this country.

03:11Whether it comes to steel and aluminium, whether it's car building, whether it's pharmaceuticals or film.

03:17We are brilliant at all these things.

03:19And therefore, I will add to the National University and have the discussions of films with carbon or aluminium.
