elections are over and one of the biggest stories to emerge is the rise of reform uk
00:04
after claiming an overall majority in lancashire which includes control of the county council
00:09
it's clear the party is picking up support from voters disillusioned with the traditional mainstream
00:13
parties today we're on the streets of preston to assess what's behind reform's growing appeal
00:19
nationwide are they surprised do they offer something new or are people simply dissatisfied
00:25
with the status quo let's find out what voters really think so my first question would be what
00:32
do you make of the results in the local elections reform have had a lot of success in lancashire
00:38
in particular but are you surprised by how well they're done or would you expect them that
00:49
is there any particular reason you're surprised you think it's because people are more frustrated
00:53
with the mainstream political parties or do you think that frustration with kia starmer's reign so
01:11
far as prime minister has kind of pushed people away from labor and the conservatives towards reform is
01:16
that is that what you'd say yeah and do you do you just envision envisage it getting stronger moving
01:23
forward do you think reform will continue to have success or do you think it will kind of die off
01:27
if they do what they say yes definitely so my first question is we've seen in the recent local
01:34
elections that reform have made huge gains in lancashire what did you what did you make of that
01:39
success first and foremost there's not popular opinion behind them people are fed up of labor because
01:44
they've not come through with anything they said they'd do so they've voted reformers uh get back at labor
01:51
yeah and do you think most people have decided to vote reform because they're frustrated with the
01:56
other parties like labor or conservative or do you think they genuinely want to see reform do better
02:02
they might be but i'm a bit concerned that they say they're going to do everything but they will
02:07
be because not all the parties have done they've all said they're going to do this that but they've done
02:12
nothing yeah so you think it's more a case of the false promises to get into power rather than
02:16
actually delivering what they say yeah and my final i think truth given i think most people
02:24
knowing the benefits of voting reform would vote for uk reform and what do you attribute that success
02:31
down to do you think it's people being frustrated or disillusioned with the traditional mainstream
02:36
parties like labor and conservative or do you just think that offering something completely new
02:41
i think that most people have been disillusioned by the different parties predominantly i don't think
02:49
they've benefited there's been a lot of vested interests with these uh politicians over the years
02:55
where they've financially benefited themselves financially for things by pushing the agenda for certain
03:02
things and getting shares allocated from various different companies to push the agenda for certain
03:10
actions so they become very multinary there as on the backs of pushing things that shouldn't have vested interests
03:17
in the first place yeah
