I tried Caffè Nero’s new Strawberry and Vanilla Iced Matcha Latte.

00:00Hi there, my name's Holly Alton and I'm a food and drink writer for National World

00:04and today I'm going to be taste testing a brand new drink from Cafe Nero.

00:08Now the sun is shining, hence the sunglasses, and I thought what a better way to spend my day

00:14than heading to Cafe Nero to try their brand new iced matcha range.

00:19So yeah, Cafe Nero has launched a matcha range just in time for the warmer months.

00:25The range includes vanilla as well as strawberry and vanilla.

00:29And this range is joining their already existing range of iced drinks

00:33as well as their signature hot drink range as well.

00:36As someone who loves an iced drink though and loves coffee and coffee shops

00:40and trying loads of different things, I've actually never tried matcha before.

00:45Now this is a bit strange because matcha is incredibly popular at the moment

00:49and so many different coffee chains across the UK have matcha ranges

00:53but it's just something that I've always been a little bit apprehensive of.

00:57However, with Cafe Nero announcing this brand new range, I thought, you know what,

01:02it's time to step out of my comfort zone and try something new.

01:05But that's not the only reason that the time is now

01:07because I think the strawberry and vanilla flavour of their matcha range sounds pretty delicious

01:13and judging by the photos they have used to promote this drink, it looks pretty nice as well.

01:18And here it is.

01:19So yeah, I headed to my local cafe Nero, ordered this brand new drink

01:23and I'm going to taste it for you right now and give you my honest opinion on what I think.

01:28I could absolutely love it, could be my new thing, regretting that I've never tried matcha before

01:33or it could be the fact that I don't like it at home.

01:37But yeah, let's just taste it and find out.

01:41But before we get into that, let's have a little look at this.

01:43So, as you can see, it has that signature green colour that matcha normally has.

01:50But the bit I like is on the bottom, you can see that it's got the strawberry in.

01:55Now, I don't exactly know what this strawberry is, whether it's a sauce, whether it's like jelly.

02:03I didn't see Cafe Nero actually make this, so I'm not entirely sure.

02:06But it looks really advertising and, of course, it has got lots of icing,

02:11which, as I said before, with the big warmer ones, that is a big yes from me.

02:16I think it looks really, really nice.

02:18But, as I say, let's find out how it tastes.

02:24That is really nice.

02:27I really like that.

02:28It's not as creamy as I was expecting it to be.

02:33But it's the strawberry in the bottom for me that I really like.

02:37So, I don't know if I would actually like matcha,

02:40like an original sort of matcha without any added flavours or not.

02:44Having said that, this tastes really, really nice.

02:47But what I love the most is definitely that strawberry in the bottom.

02:50I love anything strawberry flavoured, to be honest.

02:53And it does taste like jelly.

02:55It tastes like, you know, when you were a child

02:58and needed to mix the jelly and the ice cream together.

03:00I don't know why, because I don't know what part of this

03:03could be tasting like ice cream.

03:06But that's what it reminds me of.

03:08That is very, very delicious.

03:10It's quite sweet.

03:12It's incredibly refreshing,

03:13because it's obviously an ice drink and it's cold.

03:17And, yeah, I'm a big fan of this.

03:19I love that.

03:20I would be intrigued to try matcha on its own

03:23without the strawberry flavour to see what I think about that.

03:28But this particular drink from Caffe Nero,

03:30the strawberry vanilla matcha, is great.

03:34Now, if you're wanting to try this brand new drink for yourself,

03:37I will say it is only available for a limited time until September.

03:41So, most of the summer period.

03:44And, yeah, I would say it's absolutely delicious.

03:47I will be going back and getting another one of those.

03:49Absolutely incredible.

03:50I love that drink.

03:52It is so fruity.

03:53It is so sweet.

03:54It's absolutely delicious.

03:55Honestly, I think I could drink that in five seconds.

03:58But I am interested in trying matcha on its own

04:01without any sort of additional flavours,

04:03because I do feel like it does mask maybe the matcha taste a bit.

04:08So, if you like matcha, maybe it's not the one for you.

04:11It is very...

04:12The strawberry is very prominent.

04:13But for me, yes.
