The dawn swimmers of Lake Burley Griffin

Friday as the coldest morning so far this year - but it didn't stop a band of hardy swimmers from jumping into Lake Burley Griffin for a swim

00:30yeah it's amazing i think i i used to live in sydney um so i've kind of come back with

00:46in sydney has such a culture of people getting in the water particularly on a friday morning

00:50and kind of starting starting their weekend off strong um so it's been really nice to have that

00:55in canberra people a lot of people are afraid of the lake but we do get testing every week

00:59we make sure it's safe um it's actually good to get in there and what's it like when you get out

01:04and you're in a shower and it's got it's cold we come out of redshed because there is a sauna here

01:10so some people get in and do a bit of a sauna after otherwise we've got hot showers it's part

01:14of the invigorating it's a bit like the um the benefits of getting in cold water just like an

01:18ice bath it's actually a lot warmer than an ice bath but i think it's just a good way to like

01:21meet some community and put yourself out there canberra's really good for that so just thought

01:25i've come down in canberra to go i've swum in the past but just going to go for a little dip

01:28see how we go yeah um i think for me it's just a good chance to get out um in an open body of water

01:36and meet some new people and have a bit of fun pretty much the same i've always enjoyed swimming

01:41with the lake i've never actually swum this time of the year before so that's pretty new for me

01:45and yeah i like ocean water swimming in general and lake's i think underrated

02:15it was good the air temperature is intimidating but once you're in it's awesome but like

02:40yeah i kind of felt groggy this morning that's woken me up yeah it feels good everything goes

02:45numb and then you just you're happy your head's alive it's good how was it oh it's a bit warmer out

03:00there um it's a lot colder here no it's lovely though it's so nice sitting out there and you can

03:04just see all the steam coming off the lake it's beautiful because desperate desperate to swim

03:11but everyone who was born and bred can bear and we said you know you can't swim in the lake so we

03:17just i don't know started speaking to a bunch of people and then um met up with mon obviously runs

03:23the red shed and and um we went from there and you can and you can swim in the lake and you can swim in

03:32the lake yeah it's black black mountains it's maybe not mount franklin i wouldn't be drinking it
