00:00France marked 80 years since the end of the Second World War on Thursday.

00:12French President Emmanuel Macron led the commemoration of the victory in Europe when Nazi Germany surrendered in 1945.

00:23But 80 years on, only a few who lived through the horrors of the war remained to tell their story.

00:32Unfortunately, I realize that we are less and less.

00:38And this is really a preoccupation.

00:44Because being alone is something that I find a lot.

00:51Marcjana Marcinkowski was only 9 years old when Paris was liberated after years of Nazi occupation.

01:00She fears today's younger generations have lost touch with what that moment meant.

01:05It's even already forgotten.

01:09Because there is one thing that is sure, it's that in schools we have completely forgotten to talk about the last war, and even the first war.

01:20With Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine raging on at Europe's doorstep, the past feels closer than ever for many of these veterans.

01:30I am very attached to peace.

01:33And we have to do everything that is possible so that the people don't support us.

01:39I am very attached. I have seen too many people suffer.

01:44Women, children, very viciously.

01:48And I will oppose all my forces.
