00:00Hello, I'm Jane Smith. I'm the town crier for Sonny Spock and Regis.
00:04It's VE Day and I'm here to read the VE Day proclamation.
00:12Ho, yay!
00:16Ho, yay!
00:20Ho, yay!
00:24Ho, yay!
00:27Eighty years ago, the United Kingdom and its allies from around the globe celebrated victory in Europe.
00:40Today we commemorate what came to be known as VE Day.
00:47Our thoughts turn to thanksgiving and remembrance.
00:52We remember those we lost, those who were wounded or scarred, those whose lives were forever changed by war.
01:05Nobody was immune from the impact of that terrible conflict.
01:12Let us pause to remember their sacrifice.
01:16We reflect, too, upon the words of our late Queen Elizabeth.
01:26Never give up, never despair.
01:32And so we offer thanksgiving for the selflessness of those who gave up so much in order that future generations should enjoy the blessings of freedom, democracy and peace.
01:51God save the King.
01:54God save the King.
01:55God save the King.
