There were dramatic scenes in Portishead… as armed police stormed a quiet cul-de-sac — and a police firearm was fired. Officers rushed to Merlin Park over fears a man had a gun. A tense stand-off unfolded just half a mile from police HQ — negotiators, dog units, and armed teams all on the ground. One man was injured. No officers were hurt.

00:08street and a police firearm was discharged. It happened at around quarter to four on Wednesday,

00:16April the 30th. Officers were called to Merlin Park in Porter's Head to check on the welfare of

00:22a man. Due to concerns involving a possible firearm, armed units and trained negotiators

00:28were sent to the scene. The standoff took place at a detached house on the cul-de-sac worth around

00:36£350,000, just half a mile from Avon and Somerset Police Headquarters. Negotiators attempted to engage

00:47with the man and police dog units were also brought in. A short time later a police weapon was fired.

00:54The man in science sustained an injury to his hand. He was eventually taken to hospital by ambulance,

01:00though police say he initially refused to go. His injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

01:07No officers were harmed during the incident. Later in the evening, two female CID officers were seen

01:15conducting a house-to-house inquiry. A CSI van arrived and a uniformed officer remained stationed

01:22at the home's entrance. Three unmarked BMWs were parked outside the property, alongside a black

01:29mini-countryman in the driveway. Merlin Parkway is typically a peaceful street of modern homes,

01:36just a mile from Porter's Head Town Centre, now the focus of the ongoing police investigation.
