President Trump praises Canadian PM Mark Carney for his victory and takes some credit.
Transcript
00:00Thank you very much, everybody. It's a great honor to have Prime Minister Mark Carney with us.
00:07As you know, just a few days ago, he won a very big election in Canada, and I think I was probably
00:14the greatest thing that happened to him, but I can't take a vote. His party was losing by a lot
00:20and he ended up winning, so I really want to congratulate him. It was probably one of the
00:26greatest comebacks in the history of politics, maybe even greater than mine.
00:30But I want to just congratulate you. That was a great election, actually. We were watching
00:35it with interest, and I think Canada chose a very talented person, a very good person,
00:40because we spoke before the election quite a few times. And it's an honor to have you at
00:45the White House and the Oval Office. You see the new and improved Oval Office as it becomes
00:51more and more beautiful with love. We handle it with great love and 24-karat gold. That
00:57always helps, too. But it's been a lot of fun going over some of the beautiful pictures that
01:05were stored in the vaults that were for many, many years, in some cases over 100 years. They
01:11were stored in vaults of the great presidents, or almost great presidents, all having a reason
01:17for being up, every one of them. So it's very interesting. But I just want to congratulate
01:22you. And we're in a really great race. I watched the debate. I thought you were excellent. And
01:28I think we have a lot of things in common. We have some tough, tough points to go over,
01:32and that'll be fine. We're going to also be discussing Ukraine-Russia, the war, because
01:37Mark wants it ended as quickly as I do. I think it has to end. We had some very good news last night.
01:44The Houthis have announced that they are not, or they've announced to us at least, that they
01:48don't want to fight anymore. They just don't want to fight. And we will honor that. And we
01:55will stop the bombings. And they have capitulated. But more importantly, we will take their word.
02:07They say they will not be blowing up ships anymore. And that's the purpose of what we were doing. So
02:13that's just news. We just found out about that. So I think that's very, very positive. They were
02:19knocking out a lot of ships, going, as you know, sailing beautifully down the various seas.
02:27It wasn't just a canal. It was a lot of other places. And I will accept their word. And we are
02:34going to stop the bombing of the Houthis, effective immediately. And Marco, you'll let everybody know
02:42that. Okay. Do you have something to say about that, by the way? It's a pretty big announcement.
02:47Yeah, this was always a freedom of navigation mission. These guys, these are, you know,
02:50a band of individuals with advanced weaponry that were threatening global shipping. And the
02:54job was to get that to stop. And if it's going to stop, then we can stop. And so I think it's
03:01an important development.
03:01Yeah. And we'll have maybe before we're going to, as you know, the Middle East, Saudi Arabia,
03:07we're going to UAE and Qatar. And that'll be, I guess, Monday night. Some of you are coming
03:14with us. I think before then, we're going to have a very, very big announcement to make,
03:19like as big as it gets. And I won't tell you on what, but it's going to, and it's very positive.
03:25I'd also, I'd tell you if it was negative or positive. I can't keep that out. It is really,
03:30really positive. And that announcement will be made either Thursday or Friday or Monday
03:36before we leave. But it'll be one of the most important announcements that have been made
03:41in many years about a certain subject, very important subject. So you'll all be here.
03:48Mark, would you like to say a few words?
03:50Thank you, Mr. President. I'm on the edge of my seat. But thank you for your hospitality and
03:57above all, for your leadership. You're a transformational president, a focus on the
04:04economy with a relentless focus on the American worker, securing your borders, ending the scourge
04:10of fentanyl and other opioids, and securing the world. And I've been elected with my colleagues
04:19here, with the help of my colleagues here, I'm going to spread the credit, to transform
04:25Canada with a similar focus on the economy, securing our borders, again, on fentanyl, much
04:32greater focus on defense and security, securing the Arctic and developing the Arctic. And the
04:38history of Canada and the U.S. is we're stronger when we work together, and there's many opportunities
04:43to work together. And I look forward to addressing some of those issues that we have, but also finding
04:48those areas of mutual cooperation so we can move forward.
04:50Great. That's great. Very nice. Thank you very much. It was a very nice statement.
